8th Grade Graduation Speech

Recommended Posts

Well, 8th grade graduation has finally arrived! Being the top honor student of my class, I was required to write a 1 minute speech summing up our 3 years in middle school.

Here's what I have:

Welcome, fellow students. The day has finally arrived when we can say, “We’re moving on!”

We began our careers here at BCMS as 6th graders. This was a big transition for all of us, for it was a completely different experience than elementary school. As years passed, we progressed through the halls, and eventually ended up here, as 8th graders. All in all, I’d have to say we did very well.

Throughout our years here at the Middle School, we have set many precedents that others at BCMS will continue to follow until the end of its days. Some of these include Teams, Fall Picnics, BCMS Idol, and the passing on, or stealing, of Spirit Cans!

I’d just like to thank all of our friends and family for supporting us along the way, and please continue to encourage us on our journey next door.

Congratulations class of 2012, I’ll see you in high school!

What do you all think? Any suggestions? (Keep in mind the time limit...)

Thanks!

-Daniel

Wait, 8th graders have a graduation cermoney, what the. Sorry, it isn't like it is a big deal, unless your a complete moron why wouldn't you pass 8th grade. If my last day of eight grade had one, I am glad I skipped that day.

Aren't you lovely!

Good job! In my school, it's 7-9th grade, so we have our 9th grade graduation coming up soon! No speeches though, a really cute presentation with baby pictures!

It's a small school [300 kids] and that's why leaving is harder. I know every single person in my grade!

*sigh*

Great speech!

^^We don't have an 8th grade graduation either. I'm in junior high (7th-9th grade) and the next time we graduate is in 12th grade. No need to be so harsh about it. He just thought that he'd share the honor to make a speech in front of his class with us.

^300 Kids is small to you? That's how many kids are in my school, and it's getting pretty packed!

Anyway, the only thing that I would change in the speech is the "All in all" part. My teacher said to never use basic transitions. I'd try to use something more creative instead.

It's a good speech, and I'm sure if we knew what you were talking about in it I'd be even better. You don't have to worry about that though. I'm sure the people in your school will know what you're talking about.

Wow, and I thought my school was small...

Our elementary school runs 1-4, middle 5-8, and high school is 9-12. The middle and high schools share a building, just on separate floors. I think our school has about 700 kids in it, maybe less. Our graduating senior class of last year was 72.

But our school is still recognized as one of the best in the state

Oh yeah, and we do have a graduation. Just nobody takes it seriously.

My school along with most in Florida had an 8th Grade Graduation.

The speech seems kind of bland and generic to me. Not to mention shorter than one minute unless you speak very slowly.

Perhaps you should talk about Voyage for 40 or more seconds!

I hated middle school so much, those three years were so miserable. I don't think we had a graduation, and if we did I guess I don't remember it. I think got a free day at the pool that was next to our school.

I would do the thing off the top of my head, but you have a pretty solid start to your speech for an 8th grader. Mad props.

We just got shipped off to another school when we finished 8th grade. We didn't even get a chance to pick on the kids in the lesser grades; the 9th grade was moved to the new school so we got another year of getting picked on... well not me, my picking on ended when I beat up the captain of the football team.

I liked your speech. I like that its short. Most of the speeches I have to sit through for my eighth grade graduation were about 5 minutes each. So yours will be popular especially if there are other long ones.

Oh my school had 300 kids, but it was K-8, and it was not a private school either. So I knew the other 34 kids in my grade waayyyyyy to well.

Lewis Black said it best in his auto-biography: "If there is a hell, it's modeled after junior high."

But yeah, I didn't have a 8th grade graduation either. We only had it for the things that mattered; high school and kindergarten.

Tip on your speech, just wing it and have a good time.

I had an 8th grade graduation, only it was on the very last day of school and lasted no longer than 20 minutes. After that, we were allowed out. Oh yeah, IOA trip too, of course.

Well, I just got back from my graduation ceremonies, and everything was a complete success! I didn't mess up once on my speech, and for that I praise God! lol. I received many good comments, and was praised for keeping it short and much more enjoyable than the other speech, clocking in at over 5 minutes.

Haha, I assure you that would not have worked. We have 200 students in our class, and over 700 friends and family that came to see them. Would you wing a speech for 900+ people?

Our school makes a huge deal about 8th grade graduation, mostly because an average of 20% of the student body drop out of highschool here. Its very sad, but the truth. Our county is 5th in the state (out of 120) with the highest unemployment rate...

But I'd like to thank (almost) everyone for the positive comments---something I haven't gotten here in a while! Your suggestions really did help me out, and now I can't wait for highschool!

Thanks again!

Oh you should have mentioned that on your first post.

Your speech could have gone something like this...

"My fellow classmates, take a look around you b/c at least one of the people next will not make it to HS Graduation. Instead him/her will be living under a bridge turning tricks for crack."

Or something uplifting like that.

Somebody had a deprived childhood...

I'm glad the speech went over well. But I'm totally with Elissa. It didn't seem personal at all.

If you had more personality than your speech indicated, then it could have worked. Experience would probably help too!

Whenever I gave speeches, I used to just write key points to make, and improv the rest. Always worked for me

As for 8th grade graduation.. I honestly don't remember if I did or didn't have one.
