Hey TPR!

I'm considering doing some work on our member profile area and I'd like to ask this simple question -

What would you like to see added to our member profile section?

Simple as that! Please post your responses and any links to examples or a detailed description of an example if you can.

Thank you!

Just a few things that I have run over in terms of profiles, I think a small "about me" section would be nice. I believe it was Danimation (there's going back a few years) that had one which I always liked. The other idea I have is maybe making it so you can have a single personal picture of yourself on there... Problems with that however would be 1) space limitations, and 2) Lewd content being posted

Generally speaking however I only look at member profiles if they post something exceptionally stupid and I want to find more dumb posts by the person... Yeah I know, but c'mon I'm guessing I'm not the first one here to do that!

For the most part I think the profiles have everything they

Photo albums.

Please elaborate. Simple typing two words doesn't really help.

What type of photo albums? Facebook style? Photobucket? Do you want to simply upload photos? Do you want to add captions? Do you want to comment on other people's photos?

C'mon guys, these changes would be for YOU. Throw me a bone here! More than just two words!

Thank you!

I agree with the personal picture section. For me its more meaningful to chat with someone when you know what they look like. Its gives the illusion you are talking to a real live person.

^^I agree with the photo albums. Maybe not Facebook style with all the tagging and stuff, but more like photobucket where you can batch upload and then see your picture with various links below it that can be used for image pasting and such, just like photobucket does.

I would also agree with a personal photo so I knew who everyone was.

From there, I would like to see a friends section kind of like myspace that you can add your friends to or people you have met from the TPR community.

I know there is a link to add a friend on here, but after that, I don't know what happens.

Peace, Big Mike

I would like a photo page like Smugmug or Flickr. That would be nice.

I suggest a personal video blog, too. I would like sending video messages to TPR of upcoming Photo TRs and other events.

How about the ability to archive trip reports in your profile? For instance lets say that I post a Trip Report from SFMM on three separate dates, 12/1, 12/3, and 12/5. If a user wanted to see my 12/3 trip report all they would have to do is click on my profile and find SFMM 12/3.

On that idea, what if users could post ride reviews in their profiles? It'd be like giving us a blogging feature in there, however seeing as it is a coaster site, the blogs would be ride/park reviews. If one of the more well traveled posters were to write a review and post it in their profile, it would be as easy as going in there and selecting the review by them that you wish to read. That was actually something I had been working on for my own website for a while. The site ended up closing before I could implement such a feature.

I like the idea of being able to catalog your threads. A photo album is absolutely in the works. Just need to figure out how many feature I can add to it.

We are doing a major overhaul to the park index pages and one of the additions will be that TPR members can add comments and reviews to parks similar to have Trip Advisor works.

You should absolutely add a tagging feature. Also a direct uploader to the album would be nice, where you could upload to each parks' album.

Robb, have you ever considered adding links to other people's trip reports on the Park Index so if say I wanted to see pics for a park you haven't been to recently I could see someone else's who had all in one place?

Posted

^ Yup, that's something I'm going to plan as well. Ideally I'd like have a feature where members can input their coaster count and maybe top 10 coasters wood/steel and it would be displayed in a banner image that people can put in their sig.

You mean like this:

It's actually been a feature of our park index pages for quite some time, we just haven't been able to update all of them.

The new version of the park index, which should be live in about 3 weeks will make it VERY easy for us to update rides, photos, videos, and member trip reports on those pages.

Maybe in the profile could be a list with links to threads that they have started

For instance lets say that I always find "Brownstreaks" threads interesting. (I use that profile name for example because it is one that haunts me and conjures up unwanted images..lol) I could go to his profile and see a list of all the threads he has started and then I could click on them.

Posted

^ Yeah, I've actually added something like that to my "to do" list. For example maybe we can add another button that only shows up for the person who created a thread that says like "+Add" and it adds that thread to your "Thread Archive" in your profile.

I like the idea of a thread archive very much.

Maybe a good idea could also be a reccomended thread section to show others what your into?

I like this idea too. It would be cool if we could know a little more about our fellow members!

For the photo uploading, if you can add tagging, perhaps you could have park or attraction tagging, rather than people. It might make cataloging pictures and linking them to park pages easier.

As far as profile pages. I agree about the personal FACE picture being added. If something besides a face is added, i am sure bantron could use a 24hr snack. I like seeing who I am talking to, it is why I ALWAYS have my face in my avatar.

If it is minor tweaks, perhaps add age next to birthday (Maths is so Hard) other possible links (facebook, myspace, etc.)

Another thing may be to add another layer to the calanar that allows members to say when they are going where (if they'd like) to allow for meetups. Adding the ability to click on the link for more information like details of when they are going to be there or contact information, and perhaps even a link to photos or a thread if they are uploaded. This way, if you keep older years up and someone was wondering what park XYZ was like on such and such a weekend, they could go to the calandar and see if anyone had been there on that weekend.

I like the thread archiving idea. I found threads I created and had completely forgotten about while doing the park updates. I can't find some that I know I did too. Somewhat frustrating.

I'd stay away from the calender meet up idea. I think it'd be a complete mess after a week. Too many people thinking they're going, posting, and then they don't. It'd be mass chaos.
