The walls came down and The Simpsons Ride began intermittent soft openings throughout the day today. So far reviews have been positive and there is even a BTTF:TR tribute with an animated Doc Brown voiced by Christopher Lloyd. Here's a link to a very quickly uploaded pre-show video

ADMIN EDIT: Click the link if you want to see it. For some reason the embedded version does not seem to work.

That was cool, I love how they put itchy and scratchy in the safety video. Could have used some more blood and gore like they normally show with them, but I guess they had to tone it down for universal. Can't wait to ride it though .

Looks sweet! I'm not a huge fan of the CG animation, especially for something like the Simpsons that's so tied to the 2D look, but it seems to work pretty well. Plus the coaster portions of the film look fun.

Universal is fast at taking these down! I can't wait to ride this ride. They have done so much more than I ever expected when I first heard it announced. October can't get here fast enough.

They aren't down, they just aren't working if you try to play them through TPR for some weird reason. If you click on the video, it'll take you to the Youtube page and it plays fine there.

Very weird - I see on these videos that someone has disabled embedding the video:

Embedding disabled by request

I didn't even know that was an option!

I don't mind it that much either but what I think they could of done was CG the landscape and hand draw the characters. There may be a reason why they didn't but all I know is that it work's well in Disney movies.

I only saw the beggining of the ride without sound (it wouldn't load the rest ) but what I saw was quite good.

Cowabunga dude.

Best post of this thread.

I'm not watching any of the videos, I'm waiting till I get to Universal...

Someone posted on IOAcentral that doing the ride film in the normal 2d style would have been extremely expensive/complex/time consuming because of all the camera movement. I'm no animation expert, so I can't confirm that...but that does seem to make sense.

They could have applied a cell shaded effect, like Futurama does with some of the ships and stuff. That way you have the ease of 3D with the look of 2D.

It's quite nice. I use it on mine.

As for the ride, I'm not a huge Simpsons fan, but this does look good.

Thanks Universal!!! Now the vids are completely gone. I understand their reasoning, but damn, do they have to move so fast to take them down!!

^Well, the annoucements did say no videotaping or flash photography was permitted and we're supposed to follow park rules on TPR...

Universal is really strict about people video tapping their rides. I remember a few Revenge of the Mummy videos flagged down. Luckily they haven't taken my recording of it down yet

Honestly...GOOD! I'm glad they took them down. If a park has a "no camera on a ride" policy then they SHOULD be going after people who sneak cameras on ride and post them on YouTube.

I can't tell you how many times I've been told by Six Flags or Cedar Fair to make sure no one at any of our events takes a camera on a coaster, but yet they don't go after the THOUSANDS of non-enthusaists that took their camera on a coaster and posted it to YouTube.

You know Robb, I have wondered about that very same thing. It seems like you can find just about any coaster's video on you tube. Heck, I found a video for the Tree Top coaster up at Upper Clements Park in NE Canada.

It's copyrighted material. I think that also influenced their decision to flag the videos.

Part of being a member on TPR is abiding by all the park rules. You should never break park rules to begin with, let alone brag about it on here.
