UniversalGSHo22
He could have lost his life doing something stupid like that. They should have cameras monitoring that area. Im sure they do. But guess what the ops were doing, not paying attention on their phones. Maybe. I don't know. Ehhhh Now I am not totally defending the Ride Opps BUT the few that get the job of watching the cameras at critical parts of all of the attractions take those jobs seriously. They can lose their jobs over mistakes such as not getting the thumbs up for take off at rides like The Mummy. I asked around the friends that I have at JP River Adventure and none of them recall this but who even knows when this was filmed. As I said from a Guest Services standpoint the guest was escorted out of the park PROMPTLY I am sure and trespassed for a year. same as if you got out of one of the logs at Ripsaw Falls or got out of the car on Men In Black. Escorted out of the park and trespassed for a year. NIce way to waste $88.00 if you ask me!!!!

Perhaps that is because they e-stopped the ride? Maybe. I don't know.
jarmor
I work at Guest Services at Both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios and the Guest Services Department also covers the Lost and Found so this is my cup of tea!!! I can promise you that this young man was escorted out of the park by security via Guest Services so we could tell his family that there would be no refunds given for stupidity and no further compensation for him trying to kill himself! The stories that I could tell about excuses and lines that we have been fed and the sob stories about lost $400 Prada Sunglasses on the Mummy and why they were not found at all or found in many pieces would turn curly hair straight. I have been called EVERY name in the book by all walks of life. Because it is ALMOST my fault that you didnt put your bag IN the FREE locker but on top and when you came out the bag was gone, but returned to Lost and Found with no camcorder or cash but it did have you autograph book and sweatshirt and flip flops. That is almost always my fault. I should write a book.....Between Lost & Found stories, Guest Services Stories, Seeing drunk people getting tazed at HHN and the Shoplifting Morons I could probably make a pretty penny!!!!! Uhh...did you guys ever find a white LG chocolate phone on the safty brakes of ice dragon? I called and kept getting answers like "oh that side wasnt checked" or "call back at a later time". I dont care about the phone just the pornographic pictures of myself on the memory card! If you can get that back to me I would appreciate it greatly! mavalasko
I was actually expecting the boat to come screaming down and either hit him or come extremely close. He probably thinks he's invincible and that its no big deal to cross the fence and climb over the tracks of a ride in operation. It was in water too so even if he did have sufficient reflexes and agility, all movements would've been slowed down... definite hit. Just a moron. odene497
Wow, that's rediculous. So judging by how high the water was up on him, I'd say it's 3 or 4 feet deep. How far down into the tracks do the boats go? I mean, let's say he didn't just get bashed and thrown by the boat, but went under it, would he get crushed, or just knocked up and possibly drown? downunder
I'm shocked too, that is absolutely crazy, maybe the cap had sentimental value. Hopefully they have procedures to cover things like that.

Cheesey
I must say, a great candidate for the darwin awards... Nah, to get a Darwin Award you actually have to die...he would be a good runner up, though. Not a smart kid at all.
kidaftersunset
Gosh I sure love stupid people. I have hit e-stops three different times for guests either standing up or getting completely out of the ride vehicle. Idiots. The best is when they ask you what happened. PURE
Does anyone else see the kid that went down the slide right after the raft in that second video? He slid up the other side, got some air, and and at the bottom of the slide full speed ran right into the raft! It looks like he got stopped flat in his tracks! Haha! It's actually disappointing for me that he didn't get hit by a boat. Me too. It'd be a good lesson for people that do this crap. It Must have been a slow day and they were running only a couple boats. If that boat started coming down when he was halfway over the track there was no way he would have had time to get out of the way.
Mr.Six
Its not just water rides. Its the fact that when people see that they can do something they will. If they're not 100% locked down there's a good chance someone will think they are above the rules and get out. I think that on just about all the rides I've worked on I've seen guests get out of the vehical or boat only because they could. Give them any wiggle room and they'll make the most of it! -Mike
map2
I'm probably the only one who did not want the kid to get hit by the boat. I'm DEFINATELY NOT defending him because he made an incredibly stupid decision to swim across the lagoon, but I don't think he deserves to lose his life. I have hit e-stops three different times for guests either standing up or getting completely out of the ride vehicle. Idiots. The best is when they ask you what happened. You should transfer to FL Classics and stay at Snow White console. You'd rack up apples on your nametag in no time. Worst part is 2 of the 3 I've caught out of vehicles there had small kids with them.

GoogleMickey
Watching this video just scares me, not so much for the guest's life but for the fact that there are guest this stupid. I'm sure now that this area of the park will have new security just so this doesn't happen again. Also if you watch the video it is cut, so I think that the ride did have an E-Stop, because that is hard to miss if you are watching the security cameras. I also think that just a year ban from a park isn't enough for an act like this. Something I can see but this guest went so far out of his way into a danger zone infront of so many guest. The punishment just doesn't fit the crime.

MG
Just like everyone else I have no sympathy for this kid, just for the park since they would have got the blame. I'm just surprised this didn't happen at Thorpe Park on Tidal Wave. Still people at Thorpe are very similar to those at Alton, just a little more stupid. All they do is get off the rides. And yes i have seen people get off the Log Flume part way through and then walk back along some train tracks in order to get back to the park! Still, definately not quite so bad as this though. texcoaster
Don't get me started with height restrictions and the amount of abuse we have to suffer because of it. I was next in line for the front seat of a Vekoma SLC when I the rides ops told me that I'd have to wait an extra train because there was a kid in a wheelchair who was going to ride. He also told this to the folks in line for rows 2-4, since the kid's whole family was riding. No prob. But when they rolled the kid up to the train, I couldn't believe it. This kid wasn't "just" in a wheelchair, he was really, REALLY bad off. His face was contorted, he couldn't hold his head upright without the brace on the chair, and his legs were like jelly. When they picked him up to put him in the front seat, it was like they were picking up a rag doll. The ride op told them that because of the nature of the ride, he would need to be able to hold his head upright on his own to ride safely. The dad pointed at the OTSRs and said "those will hold his head right." The ride op didn't even hesitate and added "but there's nothing to hold his legs. I'm sorry, but he can't ride." The dad went apeshiz on the ride op. He screamed and cursed and said that he wouldn't tolerate discrimination because his son was "special". The more he ranted, the more obvious it became that he was more interested in using his handicapped son to skip the wait in line for the other SEVEN PEOPLE in his party than he was actually letting his kid ride the ride. This was made even more obvious when he finally took his kid out of the seat, put him back in the chair, then tried to sit down on the coaster anyway. The ride op told him that he and his party would have to wait in line. The ride op took a lot of abuse from the guy, and deserved none of it. That kid would've been seriously injured if allowed to ride. I got his name and went right to the customer service building after I rode and told the park manager what had happened, that I thought the ride op handled it very well and was very professional about it, and that he could probably expect a raving idiot to come in and complain. I told him that I wanted him to hear what REALLY happened before that azzhole got there.

I remember being held up for the back seat of El Toro while the ride manager took 15 minutes explaining to some idiots that they had to register with guest relations to receive line bypassing privileges. The parents ran the "let's play dumb and stand here" tactic, until the manager finally coaxed them out.
