The closest i ever came to that park was when we passed it to go to Cypress Gardens in 1985. I remember the giant wheel and we saw the Wiener Looping, whick looked insane even from the road:

I remember this park. I went there when i was younger, I only got the hurricane credit due to my height. I do remember watching a game too.

I have the same brochure from 1988 and that was the one and only time that I was ever at B & B with my folks. Great park, but yes, themed a bit different. All I cared about was the coasters and rides and I actually had more fun at this park then I did at WDW!!!

 

I still remember to this day, the fond memories of me and my father riding the shuttle loop! The elevator to the top was much nicer than walking up the stairs like the one at SFGA! My Dad and I must have rode this thing twenty times in just about every seat because there was no line. Talk about high tech thrills! That launch feeling was just incredible coming out of the chute!

 

I took my Dad on TTD at CP this past September and the look was a bit different than that of the shuttle coaster at B & B! More like, "Holy F*%k!" instead of the giddy laughter we experienced on the double loop!

 

Awesome subject with great reminders of all of the fun times that I had with my folks growing up! Keep up the great work, Shane!

I like how one of the brochures begins with "there's no such thing as too much fun" and then, when you open it up, the first thing you see is "too much fun!"

INTAMIN

1/7/08 - This post has been updated with two catalogs from Intamin -Ride Trade featuring Drop Rides, Water Rides, Simulators and Dark Rides

 

Here is an old Intamin ride catalog. Before the days of the internet this is how the ride manufacturers got information to the parks. I picked this up at one of the IAAPA conventions. You can see the variety of rides Intamin offered at the time.

 

On the cover is their disastrous Flight Trainer, that ride came and went in about a span of two years. I highlighted some of their cooler attractions. Intamin has always made good stuff, even back in the early days!

Some interesting points from the front page:

 

Giovanola, an Intamin owned production plant with large facilites for manufacturing and testing builds most of the Intamin rides.

 

Intamin is now the owner of the complete Schwarzkopf product line, including all patents, production rights, calculations and drawings...

God I miss the old Knott's!

Notice it says Marriott's I think i remember hearing that "Omega" was the original name for the American Eagle.

Nothing ever came of this model.

Back in the 80's parks had a strange fascination with these rocking pirate ships.

But coasters were and always will be their specialty.

Monorails, trains, coasters and flumes. Hell, they even made submarine passages.

I wish those double or triple wheels where still around.

Back in the day, towers were their specialty.

One thing I wish took off a little bit in the Intamin catalog would have to be the Mega Ball ride. It would be interesting to see a rapids boat ricocheting around a pinball table and gives a unique ride every time.

Wow! The Intamin catalog alone could fuel a 70 page long thread! What a great trove you have. Thank you for sharing this. I remember riding the triple wheel every summer at Marriott's GA as a kid. I love the "Double Coaster" advert. im assuming the reference of Interama SA is refering to Vertigorama at what is now Parque de la Ciudad in Argentina.

 

Not a great reference as the ride never opened and has sat rusting ever since it was built

Thanks for posting those pictures of Boardwalk. That was my first real park, and roller coasters.

 

I remember going like once a month during the summers while I was living in Daytona. I still even have the miniature Board Walk & Base logo bats you could win.

 

You know I always wondered, not that I'm a huge ferris wheel rider, but I have never seen another one or realized with the spinning cars like BWB had. Anyone know of any in the US? It really was kind of cool, like the tee cups @ disney but you couldn't spin them fast

Does anyone remember the Steve Miller Band video "Living in the USA"?

 

It was filmed at Barnum and Baily's Circus World. Originally, the "video" was just part of "Wild Rides", hosted by Matt Dillon. They decided to make the video the official music video for the song, and it played on MTV in it's early days.

Wow! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I first went to Kings Island way back in 1991, so I guess I missed getting on THE BAT. Of course, two years after my first visit, Kings Island added TOP GUN, which I didn't get to ride until 1999.

 

This begs the question: If Cedar Point is dropping all Paramount logos and licenses, will TOP GUN be renamed? Could this ride be renamed THE BAT?

I never knew until now that the Luxor boat ride was an Arrow creation. I'm glad I got to ride it in its first year. The 90's era Vegas has become a unique time in Vegas history, situated between old school Vegas and the new party scene/Lindsay Lohan/doing coke in the club restroom Vegas.

 

Can't wait for Colossus!
