RoCo Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Another sweet collection! Boy, I sure do miss the Tree Triple Wheel... [runs off to rewatch "Beverly Hills Cop 3"] Thanks as always for posting all this great material!
PKI Jizzman Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Man I miss Kings Island's old flume. I love Intamin flumes. Awesome stuff, this is so rad
snoflake15 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Fantastic trip down memory lane. Many rides there from my childhood (a lot of which I was too scared to go on! )
Mean Streak Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I miss the old permier area of Six Flags that is when it was at it's best with themeing not it is just messed up
cfc Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I'm shocked that more parks haven't installed coin-operated, radio controlled vehicles--what a great new "money making idea"! I don't remember ever seeing the "Computer Odyessy" thing anywhere--what the heck was it?
super7 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 The intamin Double Swivelling Wheel and Triple Tree Wheel were amazing rides. Its a shame they have all been destroyed in the US. Do any remain anywhere now? They were so much more efficient than the standard ferris wheels. What was a Helios ride?
simon8899 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Was unsure were to post these lobbycards from the movie Rollercoaster but hope it's okay to post this classic images here.
montezooma Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) I had a dream about this great park last night. I sure miss hot summers at AstroWorld. Edited March 2, 2013 by montezooma
DarienLaker Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I don't get it why would Six Flags Astroworld decided to use a dragon for Viper's logo and tunnel. Vipers are a breed of snakes, so it would have made sense if they went with a snake for the logo and tunnel artwork. That picture of Bug Bunny diving was also used on the backs of Little Golden books back in the day!
jzoole Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Oh my gosh, this is making me so sad But thanks for posting Shane!
RandallDuell Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Best thread ever. HILARIOUS to see the NEW FOR 1989 FLASHBACK ad for SFOT. I guess that makes St. Louis literally a solid 20 years behind Dallas?! Crazy to imagine the metropolis of greater Houston NOT having a "real" theme/amusement park. Obviously Kemah and the Pier add something, but holy crap does it seem insane that there isn't some flavor of Six Flags or Cedar Fair park within an hour of downtown! Great stuff, per usual, Shane. Not sure when I'll next be in Vegas (or Utah), but hot damn I'll buy two of everything from your park(s)!
Nrthwnd Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Thanks for the look back at AstroWorld, Shane. I was lucky, and got to visit it around the Fall of 1992. I think the Big Thing at the time (that had just opened), was the stand-up Batman coaster. And it was good! And I felt XLR-8 was The Best of the suspended car coasters I had ridden, to date. And My - First - Ultratwister.
Rollercoaster Rider Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 When is the season gonna start up?
CorkscrewFoley Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 These are very cool Shane...I have some Astroworld park maps a friend gave me ten years ago...need to dig 'em out now.
11slataus Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Did Astroworld's Condor end up at Great America or Great Escape?
_koppen Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 When is the season gonna start up? There is some new stuff here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shanes-Amusement-Attic/412595505472065 Otherwise I'm guessing he is extremely busy right now trying to get his new water park open.
strwrse1 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Thanks for the memories Shane. 1989 was the year I got to visit this wonderful park. Brought back so much, the Texas Cyclone, Viper, Tidal Wave, etc. Wish I still had pics from when I visited.
CoasterEv Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Thanks for the update! Oh, how I miss these rides Grew up riding the one inside of West Edmonton Mall until it was replaced with an S&S Wish they still had more of these around!
jhunt2 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Wonderland closed for two main reasons: 1. It wasn't getting any customers and was making no profit. 2. The location in Western Sydney meant that crime rates were high, which is what frightened guests away. The Intamin Drop Tower is no longer, however the motor and cables were bought by Dreamworld in an effort to build their own version: the much bigger Giant Drop. I also know something about the major roller coaster. I don't remember the name, the big one, not The Demon. It was in such poor condition when Wonderland closed that it was left standing because it was believed that it would soon collapse of its own accord. However, it took a second effort by the former park management to finally demolish the ride.

jhunt2 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Giant Drop went through an upgrade in 2004 during the construction of The Claw. The motor lift system of the Intamin Drop Tower from Wonderland was incorporated into the Giant Drop in order to make the speed of the ride to the top faster and more efficient. It also allowed them to operate both sides at full capacity at exactly the same time.
Gutterflower Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Great as always Shane. I love the park map on the back of one of those just showing a very simple polygon style map with the names of the rides The intamin Double Swivelling Wheel and Triple Tree Wheel were amazing rides. Its a shame they have all been destroyed in the US. Do any remain anywhere now? They were so much more efficient than the standard ferris wheels. What was a Helios ride? I know of one thats still operating in Japan at Wonder Rakutenchi. But I don't think its actually an Intamin, Anyone know more? Source: http://87-nikki.jugem.jp/?eid=81 The last one i can think of off the top of my head was at Entertainment City in Kuwait but thats gone now too.
Guy T. Koepp Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 ^Dude! The Intamin cable on the left is totally sniping that ride. Expect it to make it's demise soon.
