texcoaster Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I have a feeling you love aircraft carriers then. Multi billion dollar crafts stopping from super high rates of speed My boyfriend has done several hundred landings on carriers. He says that the 400th one was just as scary as the first. He's a bit of a thrill-seeker, too. He preferred the lights-out night landings where you never even see the carrier, you just trust your instruments and wait for the "thump".
Space Salamander Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 These are fascinating. I especially like the Batman silhouette; I'd love to see more like it!
Purplepills Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Out of the photos in the first post, I only really like the one of Rita. I think its probably because the rides in the other photos are faded or basically tatty looking, except for the yellow and red B&M looking one ('scuse me for not knowing what it is ), but then that one I just don't find interesting. I can picture the one of rita in black and white hanging on a wall somewhere, but not the others. Obviously its all personal preference, and if you like them, keep on doing it As for brakes, really not my thing either. I know a little while ago someone posted close ups of MF and TTD, with the trains, and they were some of the best shots I have ever seen.
PURE Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I like a lot of the pictures in this thread. However, I think they'd be more interesting if you found unique places to take the closeups. For example, finding a closeup on a ride that distinguishes the ride from any other one. A weird support, track piece, or finding ways to line track pieces up with other things on the ride or in the background. Finding two parallel pieces of track from an odd angle (similar to the Xcelerator criss crossing track photo), or finding rare angles are all things to consider when you start zooming in. When you've seen a B&M zero-g roll 100 times it doesn't matter how close up you get to it, it still looks like the same zero-g roll you've seen over and over. That's what makes some of the pictures stale to me. Hope that makes sense...
RIP Psyclone Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Yep, nevermind Elissa, she's a girl! (And what do they know, hehe.) Those are some great shots! Coaster porn, like Jahan said. I love seeing close-ups that show some interesting details. Keep 'em coming! -Chris "I love coaster porn and extreme close-ups" Smirnoff
spaceace12 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 One of my best shots I have is in video form. It is from the Voyage when the track crosses of the track leading to the lift and going to the station cue fly by. I zoomed in enough to get the train in full view, but far enough in to get a good shot. I do not have a still of though, but it is in my year end coaster video.
BeemerBoy Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 My boyfriend has done several hundred landings on carriers. He says that the 400th one was just as scary as the first. He's a bit of a thrill-seeker, too. He preferred the lights-out night landings where you never even see the carrier, you just trust your instruments and wait for the "thump". A bit of a thrill seeker??? That's the understatement of the century! Seeking out a carrier night landing borders on having a deathwish. Seriously, this is uber cool in my book though. Officially, I pronounce your boyfriend as having the biggest balls on TPR. Okay, that sounded wrong, but you get the idea. I can honestly say that short of a Blue Angels flight, a carrier takeoff/landing would make my thrillseeking life complete. I'm officially jealous. Back on topic, the closeup pics are pretty cool, but I'd agree that trains and expressions are slightly better.
jten11 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Yep, nevermind Elissa, she's a girl! (And what do they know, hehe.) Those are some great shots! Coaster porn, like Jahan said. I love seeing close-ups that show some interesting details. Keep 'em coming! -Chris "I love coaster porn and extreme close-ups" Smirnoff I agree. I can definitely appreciate a close up track shot. Yeah, yeah peoples' expressions and tracks with trains are good pictures, but an artistic shot of bare track is just about as great (if not better) as pics with a coaster or people in it. Take my pics for example. They're not extremely up close but I think they serve my point well. something about this I like...
IceDragon Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I love all the photo's in this! They're really interesting perspectives! I may have a few that cover the styles in this topic And one last abstract piece Another layout shot Sunset and Rita Worried? Facial! Up close and personal! I didn't think it was this fast Log Flume POV I still think trims on a kiddie coaster's lame Yay for the sun in England! And a backed up shot because I love looking at the track layout too. I wish I had waited to position it perfectly, but there's always next time... *runs out of things to say* And again... Motion blur again... Brings out the best in any coaster! Could be edited in Photoshop, but I haven't got it installed yet Motion blur ftw! loopage That's my hand there by the way... You can see my hair!!! I love this shot... This was 100% accidental... I just needed a shot of it upside down
yankees15 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 CP_RULES, I am also a sucker for brakes. My personal favorite are Intamin brake fins on the rocket coasters.
slither37 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I actually like the close up shots, although as I say that I realize that I am uber coaster nerd. I hate winters in Ohio.
matteocrepaldi Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I love this topic!!! Here's some close ups from my collection! Expedition Geforce: Magic Mountain @ Gardaland: a Vekoma with train: Blue Tornado for those SLC enthusiasts! Now some B&M close up awesomeness: Katun! This is not as cool as the one before but it's a nice close up! I'll post more photos later!
stormrider Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Haha, I've got some coaster close-ups as well (oh yeah, and on his site there are pictures with people and trains in action) ...but curvy as well B&Ms were very cluttered at first... You can see the dirt and rust. Old school B&M track connectors. Look at those curves.
CP_RULES Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I think I found a few more that might qualify as "close-ups with a train" or "close-ups that aren't all too close" The trouble I seem to have with taking a somewhat close-up shot AND including a train is that it doesn't always turn out as well...
texcoaster Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 A bit of a thrill seeker??? That's the understatement of the century! Seeking out a carrier night landing borders on having a deathwish. Seriously, this is uber cool in my book though. Officially, I pronounce your boyfriend as having the biggest balls on TPR. I can honestly say that short of a Blue Angels flight, a carrier takeoff/landing would make my thrillseeking life complete. I'm officially jealous. It's fun riding with him. He's soooooooooo laid back and low-key about such things. He took his first ride on Titan at SFOT last year. Everyone on the train was yelling and screaming and laughing. He was simply sitting there, smile on his face. In the upward helix, I greyed out. I looked over at him. He chuckled. "Haven't felt G's like that in awhile. We should ride the back next time, they'll be stronger." When the ride was finished, we hit the brakes and the whole train was going nuts and applauding and such. He looked at me and very calmly said "That's a good ride, Daddy, I like that one."
ahecht Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Here's what I could find And finally, my closest-up close-up Superman Okay, maybe this was too zoomed in Here's another one with a train. However, I know some of these people No, I don't know this person Yay for Six Flags paint maintenance What dummies Could've used a train
the sound Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 The third one on the main page looked really good imo, but the rest were really boring.
TatsuTerror Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 Pretty interesting how some people love 'em and some hate 'em. Sort of like the coasters themselves. Here are a few more. Some have people in them, as there were a lot of posts stating people are preferred. Again, these are coming from my coaster photography site, CoasterCapture
borisdag Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 There is an amazing sense of intimacy in your work. Good stuff! Keep it up!
PKI Jizzman Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 More Close ups! Mmm....Maverick Look, Ma....no supports!...and hands! All sorts of Intamin track I stood in one place and got mannyyy shots. Mmm....this part was AWESOME <3
steel Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Those first photos were fantastic. Great job. They really make the rides look beautiful, as though they were meant to be sculpture. It's been fun to look through this thread at some of these photos.
hansrubens Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I really like those close up pictures where you can see the expression on their face.
Jam3s Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I really enjoy these! Great posts. The ones of just the track make for great desktop backgrounds. Is there a place where we can find them in higher resolution? The ones of the cars capture the emotions of the riders so well! Awesome pictures. What kind of camera and lenses do you use? It's gotta be a nice one to get such nice pictures!
coasterdude28 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 These are all great pictures. There are some close up shots in this trip report that I posted a few months ago. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37242 Enjoy.
