dr.gumbo Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 That looks really fun, I could imagine going around those curves at over 100mph , it also seems to offer a longer ride time than than most record breakers too.
Team Thriller Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 WOW! It's about time they build something like this so close to my house. Hope that its smooth and not like a backrow seat on Kingda Ka. --James
coasterdude28 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 The new renderings look awesome. It would be really interesting if the cars incorporated a drifting feature for the curving part of the track.
kraken613 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Those turns could be pretty intense at that speed!
willski Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 The new renderings look awesome. It would be really interesting if the cars incorporated a drifting feature for the curving part of the track. Why? Race cars (especially F1, which is what this ride is modeled after) don't drift. Drifting is not an effective way to race, despite what you may see on the Fast and the Furious. F1 cars have no need to drift, as the faster you go, the more downforce (and hence grip) increases. This is why F1 cars take curves at insane speeds and have no problems with grip. This is also why F1 drivers must be in excellent physical shape, because some turns (such as 130R at Suzuka and Eau Rouge at Spa) pull up to 5g's.
Olov Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I'm pretty sure I have seen the first rendering from an old Arrow or Vekoma site a few years ago. There was an animation of the coaster as well.
eddie200330 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 To be quite honest I am almost positive that there was an article in an old (please don't hit me) issue of ACE news. That diagram of the "track" with the long straight and the S curves was in something I have read in the past. It has been some time ago like probably 10 years or so but I do remember seeing the exact same pic. If I can find my old issues I will do some searching.
coastakid Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 ^ Although I'm only 13, the second I saw those pictures I knew that I had seen them before awhile ago, but I cannot figure out from where! ... It couldn't have been 10 years ago, because then I would only be 3... -Jon
Scaparri Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Yeah, now that you guys bring it up, I remember it too. It was an old Vekoma concept from about five years back.
coastakid Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Myth BUSTED! I am beginning to wonder if this is all just all a big lie. -Jon
Moose Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Just because a coaster company had a concept similar to what this is being described as does not mean that it is any more or less likely to be a reality.
coastakid Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 ^ Well I'm just saying that those are the EXACT pictures used for a previous concept; They're not S&S's. I have never seen the car concepts before, but I remember clearly seeing the picture of the track leading into the left banked turn. -Jon
Peis Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Here is a picture of the masterplan The pink line will be the layout of the Race coaster: Greetings from Germany, Matthias
Moose Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Nothing like the Vekoma concept. Me thinks someone just got confused and posted that when they heard about a coaster themed to racing (that wasn't TTD)
texcoaster Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 So it IS just an oval. Meh. It's not THAT much faster than Kingda Ka... not even fast enough to really notice a difference in speed between the two. The only true advantage will be the force of the launch. At least when TTD or KK get going, they do something besides race to a brake run. If I'm in Germany, I'm sure I'll ride it, but it's not enough to get me to buy a plane ticket by itself.
dr.gumbo Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Are you sure thats the coaster, does'nt look like one.
BeemerBoy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Although the Ferrari rendering is what I'd most like to see happen, at this point I honestly just wanna see this become a success. Maybe then we'll get one themed to Indy or Nascar on this side of the pond.
RIP Psyclone Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Well since my thread got locked, here is the rcdb info on this coaster: www.rcdb.com/id4161.htm Roller Coaster: Racecoaster Amusement Park: Nürburgring (Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate Germany) Classification: Roller Coaster Type: Steel - Sit Down Status: Under Construction opening 2009 Builder: S&S Power Lift / Launch System: Compressed Air Launch Length: 3937' Inversions: 0 Speed: 134.8 mph Max Acceleration: 0 − 134.8 mph in 2.5 seconds Trains: 2 cars per train. Riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows for a total of 8 riders per train.
PURE Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 ^Locked or completely deleted? I knew I posted something there, I thought for a second I was losing my mind... Of course you won't be able to tell the difference between the speed of this and Kingda Ka, but 2.5 seconds up to 134 is pretty darn intense. I think, for a change, it will just be nice to be cruising at that speed for a nice straight and long amount of time. And the speed record is now taken away from SF and America...
RIP Psyclone Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 ^It was just locked at first, then deleted later. That's fine, but I think somewhere in the subject of this thread it should indicate that this is going to be the world's fastest roller coaster. As it is now, it's barely noticed.
thomas2 Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 ^I changed the subtitle of this thread
CrysisGuy Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Are you sure thats the coaster, does'nt look like one. Whatever it is I will count it as a credit so do the enthusiasts who argue whether this is a roller coaster or not.

Kennyweird Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Are you sure thats the coaster, does'nt look like one. I'd say it's a coaster, although it doesn't look like it embodies the spirit of one.
RIP Psyclone Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 It now has a name: ring°racer www.rcdb.com/id4161.htm
