Movies, Movies, Movies.....

Amazing Spider Man 2 has been screening in Australia for the last two weeks, wasn't really thrilled about seeing it. This was the only thing I haven't seen at the moment and glad I went. One of the better Marvel movies, about thirty minutes from the end the film takes a turn that will leave most shocked, but bravo to the writer, producers and every one else for going with it. Saw it in 2d, but for the above mentioned scene not really sure if the 3d is worth the extra.

Worth seeing on the big screen

Last weekend, I caught a midnight screening of The Room with one of my best friends. For those who don't know, The Room is acclaimed as being one of the best bad movies of our time and has become a cult classic. Anyway, I thought I had expectations about what the screening would be like, but boy was I wrong! I really don't know how to describe the experience except that it made an enjoyable bad movie so much more hilarious; it almost made me believe that it was supposed to be a comedy. I highly recommend attending a The Room midnight screening, it WILL be the best movie theater experience you will ever have. My advice: Don't try to enjoy the movie, enjoy the show.

By the way, the movie's director Tommy Wiseau made an appearance at the movie theater. I got a poster autograph and he was blessing those who purchased a souvenir pair of underwear He truly is as bizarre as his acting abilities!

Just got out of the screening of Godzilla. Summer blockbuster season is here people, and it's off to a great start.

But back to Godzilla freaking loved it. I was dragged to this with my friend who is a die hard fan, and I'm glad I went. But this one was just fantastic. It had a sorta dark tone that was well executed. Nice acting and great action scenes. Some scenes even mad me jump from the awesome sound effects, Godzilla's roar was just awesome loud it gave me chills. My only problem was the ending which I'm not going to talk about because it would be a pretty big spoiler. But I think its an ending the fans would understand.

But when it comes out in about 2 weeks I would recommend it. For a newbie like me and a long time fan. 9.2/10

My next screening is Maleficent.

Confession. I have a collection of favorite films ranging from B&W classics to horror, to movies that are so bad they're good. I would rather re-watch any those for the 50th time than see something new in theaters.

I took my son to see The Amazing Spiderman 2, yesterday. He is only 7 (almost 8) and he really liked it. He did find a couple of moments scary, though.

I thought it was excellent and a marked improvement on the previous one. As much as I love the old Raimi ones (1 and 2 especially,) I felt the latest one is a better Spiderman. I particularly enjoyed the mature approach of the movie, to the emotional struggles of Peter Parker and the action sequences were nothing short of breath taking. The visual effects also deserve a lot of praise. They are truly exceptional and there are some terrific photography sequences that really show them off.

Loved it.

Really looking forward to Godzilla and Xmen:DOFP next.

Chris.

I promised myself I'd get caught up on more movies and TV shows in the past few weeks. Here's quick rundown of what I watched.

- Ghostbusters (5/5) - What a fun movie. Great cast, great special effects, fun story. I'll definitely be watching this again.

- Robocop (5/5) - Another fun movie. Has plenty of over the top violence, 80s cheese, and tons of funny moments. The special effects are fantastic too.

- Robocop reboot (3/5) - Yeah after watching the original, this wasn't as good. I felt the movie tried taking itself too seriously. I like how they developed the main character a bit more in this one, but I feel the original did everything else better.

- Nightmare Before Christmas (5/5) - A tad short, but a definite holiday classic. The musical numbers alone are to die for.

- District 9 (5/5) - Wow! Best movie I've seen in a while. Great characters, engaging story, tons of action and mindless violence. Special effects were amazing too.

I have a few more movies to check out in the pipeline. Plus I need to get out and see Muppets and Captain America 2.

That's a great selection, there! I really didn't think I would like the remake of Robocop but I thought it an excellent alternative. I completely agree that the original is best but like you, I felt the character in the remake was much more developed and I particularly liked the modern day setting.

The Grand Budapest Hotel was very interesting with several funny (as well as disgustingly funny) scenes.

I absolutely loved this film. It was so different and quirky. It's intelligently written and wonderfully acted. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Ralph Fiennes losing his cool. The language he came out with had me in stitches!

Recently watched:

Rubber - Amusing experiment that needed a little more...something, to make it worthy of its rep. Still enjoyable, but nothing I'd watch again. Recommended only for those who enjoy films that are waaaaaay off the beaten path.

CATWS - Much better than the first, which I already liked. I'd rank it behind Avengers and the first Ironman in the Marvel cannon. Highly recommended.

Jeff, Who Lives at Home - Fine character study that was a little underdeveloped, with an ending that didn't seem logistically correct though it served the story. Acting was very good and that, along with a warm-hearted premise, helped it thru it shortcomings. Overall recommended for the art/indie crowd.

Aeon Flux - Never saw the series; knew nothing about it. Liked it, a lot actually. Don't understand all the vitriol flung its way. I am aware of the arguments, and I just don't agree with them. Yes, the lead actor's performance comes across as "off"/stilted/wooden/etc, but after the reveal of who he is and what his character has gone thru, he would be numb and joyless, so it fit just fine. Also, the story wasn't confusing at all, IMO. I liked the look, the visuals, the plot, and enjoyed Theron. This, I would watch again. Recommended

eXistenZ - Second viewing after first watching years ago. Still as awesome as ever! Cronenberg's mindf*** movies are the best of their kind. Highly, enthusiastically recommended.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything - Simon Pegg is solid in this very offbeat and polarizing dark comedy. While I liked it a lot, I can see why others would call it rubbish. The tone is all over the place, which is fine by me since it suits the story being told most of the time. My kind of film, though I wish it hadn't changed the narrative's focus after the first 2/3rds; it settles for a far too conventional third act compared to what had come before that. Recommended, again for connoisseurs of offbeat cinema.

Last night and tonight, I watched a couple more brain-benders.

The Fountain - After reading as many "BEST MOVIE EVER!" reviews as "MOST PRETENTIOUS CRAP EVER!" reviews, I knew I had to try this movie. I can confidently say that I loved it. The story Aronofsky crafted is challenging, symbolic, and incredibly powerful, and I would not rest until I figured it all out. Will 100% watch again.

Mr. Nobody - I.. really don't know what to make of this one. It has similar metaphysical elements to The Fountain, but this one is much more about the love stories. I was generally able to follow it and make sense of (mostly) everything by the end, but I was just bored for most of the film. Perhaps if I'd gone into it expecting less of a sci-fi movie and more of a romantic drama, I would have been able to appreciate it more. But as it stands, I don't care for this one at all.

Bad Neighbors, nothing about this was fun or funny, you really don't care about anyone. The married couple came across as unlikeable from the start of the film. 90 minutes of nothing, save your money. Watch Animal House instead. 0/10

Godzilla

Godzilla is breathtaking. Simply put, the look that this film has is incredible. It truly is an amazing experience to behold Godzilla in this film. I can't recall a movie where my jaw has actually dropped from a visual. And this movie made me do it multiple times. However, the film's human characters are weak. The development of the characters is flawed and it was hard to get emotionally attached to some of them. Overall, though, this film is breathtaking, thrilling and definitely a worthwhile theater experience.

9/10

The Amazing Spiderman 2

I may be in the minority but I actually prefer the first one to the sequel. I feel like some the scenes were too predictable, and they could have spent more time developing the new characters, but I guess it was ok.

7.5/10

Godzilla

Two words: simply breathtaking. Phenomenal special effects, great story, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The Godzilla roar gave me goosebumps, and he looked just awesome.

9.5/10

Now the other movies I'm looking forward to seeing this summer are: X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Guardians of the Galaxy. And while I think Transformers 4 will most likely suck, I guess I will still see it anyway.

Watched Django Unchained last night. And it was horrible. There's probably a decent movie buried in there, but at almost a three hour running time, there are interminable stretches where absolutely nothing of import happens. And the attempts at humor fall completely flat most of the time.

I'd say this is the worst movie I've seen recently, but I watched the fifth Die Hard movie, and that is going to be really hard to top.

^I liked Django Unchained, but Inglourious Basterds was better. I caught Godzilla at the Movie Tavern last weekend; it's a good "nachos and beer" flick, and much better than the 1990s' Emmerich version (although that's not saying much).

Django Unchained did boast Quentin Tarantino's WORST CAMEO EVER. I guess he was trying to sound Australian, but I'm still not sure.

Days of Future Past: Absolutely amazing, best X-Men film to date and exceeded all my expectations. Loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! I thought the huge cast would be a problem but nope, everyone had their fair share of time to shine in the movie, even with Wolverine back in the films franchise. I highly recommend it, and oh by the way Evan Peters version of Quicksilver was amazingly done, Aaron Taylor Johnson has a lot to live up to and if anything, should study his Kick Ass co actor's performance in this. 10/10

Agree with what ^^ Said about X-men.

Best one to date. I don't think the other guy playing quicksilver will be as good.

Besides the flawless movie (10/10) I was so surprised how many young children were in the theater, I mean like 4 and 5 year old. The movie was really violent for PG-13 some children started crying and the parents did nothing. Also they couldn't even sit still, they kept talking, making noise, and the parents just sat there. I'm sorry but that annoys the hell out of me.
