spaceace12 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 NFC Wildcard Matchups. Dallas will host the Eagles Arizona will host the Packers (in a rematch of week 17) the Saints will host the lowest remaining seed. The Vikings will host the highest remaining seed left. Here is what I figure on the AFC. I don't think the Bengals pull this out. so... The Jets will play the Bengals again The Ravens will play the Patriots. The Colts will play the lowest remaing seed. The Chargers will play the highest remaining seed. Something else that happened today. Wes Welker went down with a possible ACL and MCL injury. Patriots were playing their starters. This should add some clout to the Colts deciding to rest starters last weekend. Also, Steelers are eliminated from the playoffs.
themeparkman25 Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Well, to start the season off perfect and to completely bomb it the second half, it will be very interesting to see what happens to the Broncos this off season personell wise. My prediction for the super bowl: Vikings vs. Colts.
Sir Clinksalot Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 What an absolutely BORING final 2 weeks of football. I really hate this attitude of resting everybody and momentum be damned stuff. The Jets wouldn't have made the playoffs if it wasn't for that. I think the teams that were fighting for their playoff lives and/or playing well at the end for something (Vikings, Chargers, and it pains me to say it ... Cowboys) will put up more of a fight. That said, my prediction for the Superbowl is: Chargers over Saints.
BeemerBoy Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 So, hypothetically, if a team uses a two quarterback system all year, rotating series throughout each game, does that mean I have a legitimate beef for them resting at least one of their stars all year? This talk of Roger Goodell proposing changes which would reward teams for playing their starters throughout the final games (however meaningless they are) is complete BS. There's simply no two ways about that. Momentum is overrated. Talent, outcoaching, and outplaying your opponent is not. As for the Super Bowl, picking two teams this early in the postseason is never a lock anymore....which is good. If I had to take a stab, I'd go with Dallas and San Diego.
Homeboy23 Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 ^^ Ya, I didn't watch any game except for a couple minutes of one this past weekend. I really hope Cincinnati comes out next week and kicks the Jets butt. ^ The only incentive I could see is money, but there is only so much money to give since they already get paid millions.
spaceace12 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Here is the official times as of today on nfl.com Jets (6) @ Cincy(4)- Sat @ 4:30 on NBC Ravens (5) @ Patriots (3) -Sun @ 1pm on CBS TBD @ Colts (1)- Sat (the 16th) @ 8:15pm on CBS TBD @ Chargers (2)- Sun (the 17th @ 4:40pm on CBS Eagles(6) @ Cowboys(3) -Sat @ 8pm on NBC Packers(5) @ Arizona(4)- Sun @ 4:40pm on Fox TBD @ Saints (1)- Sat (the 16th) @ 4:30pm on Fox TBD @ Vikings (2)- Sun (the 17th) @ 1pm on Fox I will probably be working the Cotls game and hopefully the AFc Championship game when the Colts win. This time I will bring my cell phone or little camera. LAst AFC Championship game I worked. I didn't and I was feet away from Dungy and Manning and the Lamar Hunt trophy.
JEAPUgrad Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 GO RAVENS!!!! I'm personally hoping that with the Colts resting their starters for what will be three weeks by the time that they play again that the time off will be a disadvantage to them. I'm not old enough to remember when the Colts were in Baltimore but still raised to never root for them. That's like rooting for Pittsburgh. Ew. Pittsburgh.
Philrad71 Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I think that the Colts will still be formidible, although they certainly need to open up the running game a bit more so they are not coming across as too one dimensional. Manning will still do his normal damage through the air, but playing a strong defense with a good secondary could cause this team problems. Even though they were resting a lot of starters yesterday, it seemed like they were not overly committed to the run despite the Bills last ranked run defense and horrible weather. Once the Colts went down by a few scores, it seemed like they pretty much abandoned the run. Believe me, I watched every Bills game this year and we would make rookie running backs look like the 2nd coming of Walter Payton! Speaking of the Bills, our new GM just fired ALL of their coaches today after yet another horrendous season - too bad it was about two seasons too late!
spaceace12 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Yesterday the starting running back for the Colts wasn't playing. Joseph Ada was active, but not dressed for the game. So Donald Brown was in along with Mike Hart. Mike Hart was playing most of the game. Basically our third stringers played most of the game. I remember the year the Colts won the Superbowl, going into the playoffs, the Colts looked horrible. We had to play the Chiefs in the Wildcard round. Everyone had us written off and said LArry Johnson would run all over us. The Colts DA stepped up, this was the post season Bob Sanders returned from his injury that season. We shut down LJ and won the game. Next, the Ravens came to town and we beat them. After that, the Patriots came to the RCA dome for the AFC Championship game. I worked this game. I remember it like it happened yesterday. Patriots jumped out to a huge lead. The Dome was silent, and it wasn't because the Colts were on offense. The fans were not in it. Within the second half, the Colts exploded on the Patriots outscoring them. The dome was deafening. I mean, you couldn't hear squat when the Patriots had the ball. When the Colts went ahead 38-34, The dome erupted. It was louder then any noise I have ever heard before in my life. It was so loud, I could shut my ears with my fingers and I could still feel my ear drums vibrating. Then it got even louder during the Patriots possesion until Marlin Jackson intercepted the ball ending the game. It was frankly the most awesome game I have ever been too. Then I was within feet of Peyton, Dungy and Reggie and the Lamar Hunt Trophy. I can't wait to feel that happen again. This is the year. I can feel it. On top of being there, I got 250 dollars for working the game.
holyblakbelt Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I'm hoping Vikings vs. Colts, but in the playoffs, anything can happen. We saw this with the Chargers beating the Colts last year.
Jew Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 This talk of Roger Goodell proposing changes which would reward teams for playing their starters throughout the final games (however meaningless they are) is complete BS. There's simply no two ways about that. At the very least, I do like his idea of making teams list players they don't intend to play on their injury report.
ParkTrips Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I agree with Scott that no team should be required to play their stars. The only reason I could think of would be to appease fans who shelled out 60 bucks for a seat, BUT I would think most would understand when they bought the ticket that one or even both of the teams might not be too interested in the game. I like the Chargers too, which means they will probably lose early yet again. For the NFC, I'll actually go with the Saints. They still have the home field, though honestly any of the 6 teams could make it.
BeemerBoy Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 ^^ Yeah, I do like that idea though. ^ It kind of goes along the lines of preseason. I'm still amazed that people willingly shell out money to watch those games, knowing full well that the scrubs will be battling for roster spots, and that's about it. And come to think of it, wasn't the league considering cutting preseason down to two games, and adding two regular season games to the schedule? Yeah, with this whole "resting your stars" issue being blown out of proportion, I can't see how that plan would work out any better. I guess the league office, fans, analysts, columnists, and armchair QBs just need to realize that buying a ticket to either of the last two games, with the expectation of seeing your favorite star play, is NOT like buying a ticket to see your favorite band perform. If you buy a ticket to see Pearl Jam, you know there's no one holding a clipboard, waiting to step in for Eddie Vedder. If you pay to see the ______ play, then there's 53 players on that roster, and any one of them (if eligible), can play at any given time.
JEAPUgrad Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 ^After the Eagles got absolutely stomped by the Cowboys last weekend, you think they're going all the way?
Mechanic Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 ^ They aren't going anywhere but HOME! How freaking monstrous does the Dallas defense look over these past few weeks? The offense ain't half bad either. Roy Williams even got involved and was a factor in this playoff game against Philly. Go Cowboys!
alpengeist04 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 All aboard!!! I see the bandwagon coming down the road. Just kidding, the Cowboys looked good last night. Next weeks game should be a good one.
spaceace12 Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Who is the people in Patriots uniforms and what did they do with Brady and Company. The one time I wanted them to win so the Colts would play the Jets next week.
spaceace12 Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 Divisional weekend is set up First up is the AFC, Saturday tat 8:15pm on CBS, the Ravens will take on the Colts. This one is a shocker to me, I figured the Patriots would take care of the Ravens. Instead, the Ravens pecked the Patriots out of the playoffs. Sunday the New York Jets will take on the San Diego Super Chargers. (Personal opinion upcoming) I don't think the Chargers will win. Norv Turner isn't exactly the best in the post season and Rivers is due for a breakdown. This game will be at 4:40pm on CBS. Would be awesome if the Jets wins and the Colts win and the Colts don't have to face New England or Chargers in the AFC Championship. In the NFC... The Cardinals will be at New Orleans Saints at 4:30pm on Fox on Saturday. Dallas will be at the Vikings at 1pm on Fox on Sunday. My predictions. AFC. Colts over Ravens and Jets over Chargers. Colts win in AFC Championship game on the way to winning the Super Bowl. NFC I can't pick on the NFC, all equally matched playing teams. Would love to see a Vikings/Saints NFC Championship game. With the Saints going to the Super Bowl.
picknyourseat Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Bring on the cardinals Be careful what you wish for...the Cardinals just beat the team that a few experts thought would get to the SuperBowl.
derek_lentz Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Ravens, Chargers, Saints and Dallas This seems most likely to me!
bigstevet07 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 ^ Even though the Colt will most likely come out flat, for whatever reason Peyton and Co. own the Ravens. I like the Chargers and Saints, but I think the Dallas offensive line is in for a long day against the Williams boys and Jared Allen. Dallas line is too big and have shown issues this year against good, athletic devensive lines. If the Vikes don't have to blitz to get to Romo, he's not going to see many open receivers. I like the Vikes. Interesting note, if the Saints or Vikes win, and if the Colts win, it will be the first time ever both conference championship games will be played indoors. Actually all 4 of the remaining NFC teams can play indoors at home, the other 2 just need to close the roof.
