EmBy Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Hi, This is my first attempt at a Photo TR so forgive me if there are some mistakes. I just got back to Ireland from a few days break in Barcelona, in which I could'nt miss the opportunity to visit Port Aventura. The park is located near Salou, south west of Barcelona, which is about about 80 mins by the train from Central Barcelona. I found the park to be well layed out, with easy access to all attractions. You could use boats or park railway to navigate the seperate areas, but I choose to walk, as I found this easy enough once you get to know the directions from following the park map. I also wanted to check on the progress of Furius Baco, which is the first ride that hits you when you enter the park. The track looks amazing with it sweeping across the water around some ships. There was a good deal of work still going on with the ride, with the station and surrounding grounds still needing landscaping. I only saw the train once while I was having lunch nearby, but it looked very impressive. From the park map the track does a figure of 8 formation with the station of the right hand side of the track. So it looked like a few more weeks work before it opens. Highlight of my trip, meeting Betty Boo. Close up of Tami Tami, you could nearly touch the track from here. Dragon Khan getting another appearance in, it can be seen from everywhere. Tami Tami. Amazing theming here in China. Train tracks passing under the footers. Going through one of the corkscrews, this pasted so close the the footpath. The mighty Dragon Khan. Welcome to Mexico, this place was fun, all the staff were dressed up in traditional Mexican dress. Welcome to the Far West. This was like the Grand National put on fast forward, unreal. Mmm, red or blue???? Finally my favourite coaster in the park. Strange one this ride, 3 lift hills???? View of Dragon Khan from Diablo. No wonder so many people bare foothed after this drop. Worlds biggest palm tree compared to Hurakan Condor. The train skims the water at this point. Peeking over the fence for a closer look. The X type trains. Work being carried out on the station of Furius Baco. What this I see in the distance? The amazing Hurakan Condor in the distance. Entrance to the park.
coastermaniac1 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Great pictures, I love Port Aventura. So are Stampida's new trains comfy? What were the ques like?
kennywood!007 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Awesome pictures! I really want to get out there at least one time in my life. The park looks amazing, Dragon Kahn looks crazy!!
Janster Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Thanks for the pics man. Tomorrow 'm leaving for Salou. I'm looking so forward to Stampida and Dragon Khan. It will be a bit frustrating to see gorgeous Baco still under construction though.
DerekRx Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Really great pictures! Makes me even madder than I'm not going on the TPR Spain trip this year
coasterdude5 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Awesome pictures, I think Furius Baco has one of the best settings of any Intamin rocket.
thrillrideseeker Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 WOW! Thanks for posting the pictures! Furius Baco looks amazing! I love the trains!! It looks so beautiful with all the water. OH and Dragon Khan looks great! I love the setting of this park! It is so beautiful! Thanks again for the pictures!! ~Matthew
CP_RULES Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Furious Baco's roll is what Maverick's is going to look like after its modifications.... Anyways, thanks for the pictures, that park is BEAUTIFUL. How come the USA can have parks like this?
arrowfanman Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Do Betty Boop's eyes move?! Anyway, thanks for posting a great PTR. Very informative! -Jahan
coastercrazed49 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Wow Great Trip Report. The park looks really nice and Furius Baco looks great.
Peejay Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Amazing pictures. I've visited Port Aventura two years ago and it became one of my favorite parks. Furius Baco looks great.
eyeamthu1 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 PortAventura is just a stunning park... really top notch, I rate it very highly. I'm glad to see they're getting one more major ride though - that was needed, though I still think its placement takes quite a lot away from the Mediterranea entrance plaza. I mean, it's like sticking a coaster in IOA's Port Of Entry. And how is Stampida with the new trains? Comfy / better than the old ones?
EmBy Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 Hi Guys, Glad you all liked the photos, took a while to resize and get to under 150KB, but they came out fine, I think?? Yeah amazing park, one of the best I've seen for theming. Yeah Stampida was running smooth, it was my first time on it so I don't really know how it was before. But I heard people saying it was rough before, but was smooth this time, plenty of room in the train. The new ones have a little camera pointing towards both riders and then they are selling then on dvd at the photo stall after the ride. Did see anybody buying then though and they didnt even have then advertised. And the question about Betty Boo, her eyes do move.........it was crazy when she turned up, there was nearly a riot.
Louise Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 ^ The pictures turned out GREAT, good quality, and I really enjoyed the TR, thanks for posting! This is one of the parks I'm most looking forward to on the TPR trip as there really does seem to be a good assortment of stuff. Oh, and I LOVE Betty Boop, but she looks really creepy there! I'll be totally frightened of her if we see her. Did you ride Hurakan Condor?? Dragon Khan and Furious Baco (which by the way might be tied with Thunder Dolphin for my favourite coaster name ever) look fab, can't wait!
redfoot12 Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Nice. Port Aventura is on my top 3 European parks wish list.
EmBy Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 Oh, and I LOVE Betty Boop, but she looks really creepy there! I'll be totally frightened of her if we see her. Did you ride Hurakan Condor?? Hi Louise, Glad you liked the TR. I'm afraid to say I chickened out of Huraken Condor........I'm terrible for heights, and I've stopped doing drop tower rides after a bad experience in Southport. Ended up just taking shots of it instead. Yeah, you will have to try and get some pictures with Betty, also she had a China Man with her all the time. She kept on doing funny poses.

I remember Southport's being pretty meh, but then I can totally understand you being nervy of heights. I was just curious if you rode Condor because I'm a total sucker for a good drop tower. It's like Apocalypse too, right, in that you can stand or sit? I think? Anyway, yes, I will TOTALLY be trying to get a picture with Miss Boop, just hoping those eyes won't freak me out as much in person.
Wishmaster Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 ^ It has a few different types of cars. Floorless, floorless + tilting and stand-up + floorless + tilting if I'm not mistaken. I haven't ridden it myself yet, the people who did claim that Hurakan Condor is awesome.
KingOfNynex2003 Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 really cool pictures! I wish I had the money to go out to Port Aventura and get my coaster count up but I'll just have to wait unfortunately.
Théo the little french Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Nice TR! I can't wait august to go to PA! This park is so beautiful!! (it's not Walibi Rhône Alpes! ) Have you seen the tests of Furius Baco? And have you bought your on-ride video of Stampida?
BeemerBoy Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Great pics!! You made an already great looking park look even better. Thanks for the report.
matteocrepaldi Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Great pictures and great TR!!! I use this topic instead of opening another one; I'm planning to be at Port Aventura in June and I have two questions: - is the Caribe Water Park worth a visit if I'm going to stay only one day at the park? It will be one day that the park will close at midnight but I'll have to catch the train for Barcellona. - How good is the Caribe Water Park?
bgwfreak Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Great PTR! Ireland rocks! I can't wait to go there someday as I'm part Irish. This pic is kinda funny. It looks like nothing I saw in Mexico, looks more S. American to me. lol
DRACHEN_FIRE_FAN-BOY Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 IntaRides has an X style ride!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Hi, About your questions, unfortunately I did'nt get to visit the water park, it looked tempting especially as it gets warm there in the park. It was located off the the side of the park and you can see the slides from the outside of the park. If I had a choice I would pick the theme park over the water park, I think most people there are staying onsite in hotels and would have a few days to visit both. Hope this helps.
