Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread

P. 115: Ratatouille Opening Oct. 1 - Confirmed!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember when they were a kid and the Epcot day at Disney was like punishment?? There really wasn't anything exciting for a pre-teen and although the parents loved it - I was bored out of my skull and trying to connive my way back to MK.

I'm totally with you there! Last time I went was on my Honeymoon back in 2001, and aside from some frickin' fantastic Italian food in Italy, it was only a so-so experience. (I'd been once before as a kid as well, to an even less enthusiastic reaction.)

While I get why the nostalgists would be disappointed about the new direction, it's totally a great move on Disney's part. I know my kids are already excited about seeing the new Frozen ride someday, and these other upcoming attractions sound great as well! And again, the food back in World Showcase... (That's a licking my lips smiley, in this instance!)

Just because you don’t think it is good, it doesn’t mean the rest of the visiting majority agrees with your opinion. But I guess that’s the beauty of numbers... Everyone is entitled to their own opini

EPCOT is about one thing: making money for Disney. Does Guardians make money? *Glances at box office returns* Why, yes. Yes it does. Case closed.

I think “terrible” is a matter of perspective. Also understand that the person you’re debating this with has a long-proven admiration of Epcot in its classic form... Just look up Epcot’s 25th annivers

Here's a really amazing 4K version of the new Frozen Ride! Enjoy!

How anyone can think it was a mistake to replace the old ride with this is insane. It looks great!

Personally, I feel like IPs are a great way to get kids interested in learning new things. I mean, it's not like World Showcase doesn't already have IP presences. At least half the pavilions have meet & greets with characters.

United Kingdom has meet & greets with Alice, Mary Poppins, and Pooh & Tigger. France has Belle (Peasant) and Beast, Princess Aurora, and Marie from Aristocats (also, when I was there in 2012, they had a Remy animatronic on a little cart that they pushed around Chefs de France; don't know if that's still there). Morroco has Princess Jasmine and Aladdin. Germany has Snow White. China has Mulan. Norway now has Anna & Elsa. Mexico has Donald Duck (Three Caballeros-style). Now that they have an Elena of Avalor face character, I'd actually love to see her do meet & greets at the Mexico pavilion.

I also really wish the United Kingdom pavilion could've gotten the amazing Alice in Wonderland & Robin Hood (omg!) stuff that were in plans for an expansion seen here: http://www.omniluxe.net/wyw/uk.htm

It would be an amazing way to bring kids in while still keeping the country the focal point.

Also, I loved how when my friend and I were doing shopping in the UK pavilion, one of the cashiers asked us trivia and we got stickers for getting right answers. Additionally, I love how all the pavilions have people working there who are from those countries. It just adds to the atmosphere so much.

So, anyway, long story short, I have no problem with IPs in the World Showcase and would be fine with seeing more if done right (from what I've heard/read, the museum in Norway actually does an excellent job of showing how Norway inspired Frozen).

Just don't do anything to Spaceship Earth, though, or there'll be at least a one-person riot.

PS: Kinda sad to hear Universe of Energy will be replaced. I really enjoyed it and it was a great break from the heat. But I can understand the need to renovate; the animatronics were rather sad-looking and the science is outdated.

I'd love to see them add a Tron coaster to Future World, btw.

PPS: I was one of those "weird" kids who was devastated when my parents decided we'd skip Epcot during our first visit to WDW. I didn't get to go until I was 26 and I actually felt like a little kid experiencing that park for the first time. I fell in love so hard and fast. Then again, I've always been fascinated with history, learning, and time travel (the future represented in Future World, the "old world" feel of the World Showcase).

Sometimes being an Orlando local means you can go to the parks at random times just to "hang out" or pop in quickly to have lunch. Today we ended up being at Epcot twice for two different things! It's awesome having an annual pass to the park living in Central Florida. Easily the best theme park investment you can make!

Here's a mini-trip report from our visits today...

Unfortunately they've radically changed the PotSticker sauce this year. Sadly, It's not good.

Compared to previous years, the Potsticker sauce is now like a BBQ sauce. Flavor is disappointing. It's very strange because this seems like a very unusual choice for potsticker sauce.

YAY....my favorite time of the year on TPR - Food and Wine time!

Those hummus fries look amazing! I have never been a fan of chick peas so therefore never had any desire to try hummus until I tried some at Michael's son and daughters house in Virginia last year...now I am hooked and LOVE it! I have even made my own on two separate occasions using lots of jalapenos, fresh garlic and cilantro.

So far I have seen at least one menu item from every country that just sounds absolutely amaze-balls - sure wish I was in Florida right now. Can't wait to see more!

Dude... I'm actually in the park right now, waiting for the Germany kiosk. Where were you guys??

Damn, you should have tweeted at us. We almost never check the forums when we are busy doing a media event, sorry. It's almost exclusively social media for us at those things!

Here's a little video we put together from today. Should have a whole report up soon!

^^ Awesome looking food - well done!

Also loved the add-in of Jefferson Airplane, I mean Jefferson Starship, I mean Starship, no I mean Starship featuring Mickey Thomas singing what was once nominated the "worst song of all time".

We hit the Food and Wine Fest on Saturday and I know it was a Saturday, and the first Saturday of the event but man it was crowded, like crowded to the point that we just kinda gave up and said we will try again sometime later this season. Every stand we came to had lines out of the of the extended ques into the pathways and the whole thing felt like a giant cluster. Again maybe it was just a late afternoon rush combined with the first Saturday but I hope the event hasn't reached the point where it's to popular for it's own good ya know.

On the other hand Future World was a bit slow so we still had a pretty solid day. An the diver aqualock water tube thingy was operating in the Seas Pavillion which I haven't seen in years, so that was pretty cool.

Yeah, it was actually just fine on Saturday from about 11am - 4pm. We noticed it started getting REALLY packed when we went to go see Starship. As always, our best advice is to get there early! I don't think we waited more than 5 or 10 minutes for any food lines before 4pm.

^^Interesting that you had that problem. We were at the event hitting up food booths from 1-6pm on that same super busy Saturday and never waited more than 10 minutes. I agree the lines looked scary, pouring outside of the queues, and I was prepared to wait quite a bit but they moved faster than ever before in previous years. Next time, give it a try and wait. I really think they've improved their POS and delivery systems and they go quick.

^ That's right! I just remembered we DID wait in lines after Starship! We were in the "Chew" area and there were no lines for any of the food items we bought.

Yeah the lines looked intimidating but they probably do go by faster than they look but the front of the showcase was slammed, I don't remember that many booths in the front but it's been a few years since I've been. We were in the park from like 2-6:30 and hit the Showcase around 5 so there might have been a late afternoon rush coming in for the evening or something. We're definitely going to be back at some point and will hit the event earlier in the day, preferably without kids next time!

I saw "The Chew" advertised quite a bit and to be honest I don't have a clue what the heck that is, is it some kinda TV show or something? Never heard of it, but whatever it is the area looked great!

Forgive my ignorance since I have no idea if "WDW News Today" is a reliable source but this is blowing up my news feed today from pages that are generally pretty trustworthy. It's still a rumor, but apparently cast memebers are reporting a January 2017 closing date for Universe of Energy.

If it's true it's hardly a shocking development.

^More reliable than some of the Disney Click Bait sites but not the best out there!

Seriously though, like you said, none of this is a surprise including the date. We actually filmed a bit of the ride last week in anticipation of the closing.
