USRoadTripper Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Wanting to get in one more day at a park before the end of the season, I decided to head down to SFoG for a few last rides on Goliath> Joe ever so lovingly escorted me to the park, and of course, we had a blast. The park wasn't terribly crowded, with nothing having more than a 15 minute wait. After riding Goliath, we bumped into fellow TPR member Coasterdad and his son, who was dressed like Mr. Six, so we had a nice time wandering around the park with them for a while too. I will let the pictures tell the story from here... Where are we? I have no idea! If you know where we are, e-mail Dan! Thanks for reading! After a while, we got bored again, and headed off to Walmart, where I found some very Julie friendly food. The dining room was cool though, with school desks for tables, and a TV perpetually playing ESPN. The food was only so so, with the burger being the same size as a McDonald's burger, and the fries were really chopped up and greasy :-/ So after leaving the park, we stopped for dinner at Varsity, a restaurant that came highly recommended by many friends, as well as the Food Network. Thus concludes our lovely haunted Hanson car ride! Darn Six Flags budget cuts don't allow for air, it seems. Continued exquisite Halloween theming... Over here too... Uh oh...having some difficulty over here... While we were in the area, we decided to take a ride on the "haunted" Hanson cars. Everything looks cute from here... And it wasn't just me! Obviously we picked the only balloon with a bladder control problem! I got peed on during the Up Up and Away ride!! Oh yeah...Joe looks *really* exited to be riding the carousel, huh? It only took 10 minutes to load it, so I can't understand why. Busted! The not-so-amused ride op quickly confiscated the broom! During our ride on the train, Joe found a broom, and promptly proceeded to wreak a little bit of havoc. "Longest...cycle...ever..." Joe: "Hey Coasterdad! Always nice to meet fellow TPR members!" Coasterdad: "Shouldn't you be filing papers?" STOP THE PRESSES! The Signature Goliath shot has changed! The sign no longer blends in with the ride! "Baby Alvey" Because humans are allowed today! Next, we hit up Monster Plantation. Why is Joe so excited?... The day started with two rides on Great American Scream Machine, which still holds the spot as my favorite woodie!
LOVE SFKK Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Great TR! SFOG seems like one of the best in the Six Flags chain. I agree that GASM looks like a great woodie, and seems to have a fun layout. Did they take out their parachute ride? Looks like you had a good time, and I give high fives to anyone that can have fun at Walmart, and Taco Bell, so Good Job!
SharkTums Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Wow, you got Joe to a Taco Bell! Did you get to hear the story!?!? Love the Halloween Theming!
Guy T. Koepp Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Awesome TR Julie! You have mastered the art of 6 Flags sarcasm! Oh, I love Monster Mansion. I can't wait to get back there! Next summer for sure!
disneyfan1313 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Varsity!!! Whattaya Have.. Whattaya Have.. The food was so-so but the experience at the downtown atlanta location was quite unique!
brossa Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Very nice TR! The park looks great, especially the GASM is interesting me, this coaster looks amazing! I really hope I can visit this park in the next years!
Erik Johnson Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Julie, your Photo TR's are still my favorite. I think I just woke Leanne up with my laughing. Thanks for posting this!
willski Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Eh...GASM wan't running that well yesterday. I still think its a good ride, but pretty overrated, as most of the hills are too shallow to have airtime. Also, the back car desperately needed some axle grease, it was squeaking horribly and was really slow.
ParkTrips Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I thought it ran the best its run all year (avoiding the wheel seats at all cost, of course) but its still in the bottom third or so of my woodies.
woah_killa Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 OMG JULIE!!!111 I feel so horrible now because I walked RIGHT past you when you were somewhere close to the Ninja and I thought "Hey...was that Julie? OMG, IT WAS!" but...yeah...
easytoremember Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I thought it ran the best its run all year (avoiding the wheel seats at all cost, of course) but its still in the bottom third or so of my woodies. I didn't get a great ride, but it was still better than that stretch in the middle of the season when it was really slow.
niiicolaaah Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Joe on a carousel... priceless. Nice pics Julie... gotta love the ghetto Halloween decorations!
Meteornotes Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 The Halloween decorations were awesome! Way to go, Six Flags, you'll have families pouring through the gates with such attention to detail in no time... dt
mr_teisco_delrey Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 ^ Oops, I thought this was the abandoned Japanese amusement park thread.
Rollerholden Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Like everyone else said, great pics! And LOL at "Baby Alvey"
thrillerman1 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Hey great TR. I think I passed you guys over near Sogo at one point in the day. I too hit The Varsity, but it was about 6:30 by the time I got there. I always have to stop there when I'm in the ATL. What a great day at SFOG!
noyzz Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I saw you guys getting on the swings when we were heading to the Mindbender....I thought it was you guys What an awsome day!Hope you guys had fun as much as we did!
cfc Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Gee--SFOG's Halloween decorations make PKD's Fearfest look like Halloween Horror Night at Universal. Good stuff, as usual, Julie. (I think Criswell predicted this, too.)
bgwfreak Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Julie's PTRs > Anybodys Thanks for another awesome one.
coaster_dad Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Julie! Great to meet you & Joe on Saturday! My son Kyle will be quite impressed to see himself on TPR. Like you, I have always been fond of GASM, especially since it was my first woodie! Thanks for your PTR's they are always quite entertaining!
pvcoasterguy Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I can only hope that perhaps the power was out to those sad-looking halloween decorations. Thanks for posting! Your TR's are always very enjoyable.
bgwfreak Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Julie! Great to meet you & Joe on Saturday! My son Kyle will be quite impressed to see himself on TPR. Like you, I have always been fond of GASM, especially since it was my first woodie! Thanks for your Photo TR's they are always quite entertaining! You guys must have been lucky or something. In August it was jackhammering so much that every chiropractor in Atlanta felt it.
carolinacaniac Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Looked like a good trip, The themeing was top notch I see I hope to get down there around opening weekend/early april for the first time.
jynx242 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I also have a very fond place in my heart for GASM. It was my first woodie and I still love it. I freaking love the Varsity, but it is the kind of food that I can only eat maybe once a year (I feel my arteries hardening just thinking about it.) WHADDA YA HAVE!!!?? A Chili Cheese dog, onion rings and a HUGE Varsity Frosted Orange please. david
shesaidboom Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I can't believe a didn't see this TR until now! Yours are definately my favorite. Awesome pictures, I especially love the Halloween decorations. Hopefully I'll be riding Goliath next year!
