Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

Maybe we are all wrong... Maybe Cedar Point is getting a 500+ft coaster built by B&M for less than $15 million.

Have it go up the lift, turn around, and brake run the rest of the way down. I bet that would cost less.

It would be the Cedar Point version of YOLO Coaster at SFMM!

They could claim the world's highest inversion by pulling a Poler Coaster and putting a twisty bit at the top.

I don't know why anyone cares but personally I hope they start calling the Scrambler a coaster next just to see how worked up everyone gets.

Not worked up at all, but shouldn't enthusiasts of any sort be concerned with what defines their hobby? I feel that PS is a powered family ride or flat, not a coaster. That is all.

^ I don't think it really matters what other parks do. Owned by Cedar Fair or not. Valleyfair isn't in the same position at Cedar Point is with how many coasters they have. Cedar Point is almost battling when it comes to coaster count but they're not making it their top priority. If they can add something that can technically be considered a roller coaster, then power to them! It really isn't a big issue. In the end all it really comes down to is personal preference. Cedar Point can say pipe scream is a coaster all they want and I'll agree but at the same time I wont personally count it as a credit. and with only 34, That says a lot, I'm coaster credit DESPERATE but I'm not THAT desperate. (Coaster and credit aren't the same thing in my opinion - like Rougarou and Mantis - some people count them as 2 separate credits even if its just one coaster in the end)

And think about it from their perspective. As its been mentioned before many many times on this thread alone, Enthusiasts are the minority. Do you really think the average park goer is going to look at pipe scream and get angry that it's called a coaster by Cedar Point? They won't give a crap! And to be frank, how stupid would it make CP look if last year they claimed Pipe Scream to be a Family rollercoaster and thrill ride all in one to all of us and then the next year they change their minds.

Not to rant or anything (even though I clearly just did...) - but IT DOES NOT MATTER what any of us think. If they want to call it a coaster, they are going to call it a coaster. Its up to them. Unless one of us wants to work our way up to manager status at the park and hold a press conference claiming that our personal feelings dictate Pipe scream as nothing but a flat ride... then I think everyone needs to just get over it, accept it, or forget about it.

In conclusion - it is a thread and everyone is entitled to their own opinions but in my OPINION, people getting mad at a park over this? Not necessary, and quite frankly (again), its not worth getting angry over something like that. Its to please the General Public. Not like they went all Magic Mountain and opened up, what? 2 or 3 more kiddy coasters just to one-up their competition.

Come on guys and gals, its a ride that adds to the parks already vast collection. Cant we just enjoy it?

I don't think Valleyfair counts Northern Lights as a caoster, so I don't see why Cedar Point would count Pipe Scream as one.

They do count it, here is the press release from valleyfair when they announced Northern Lights

MORE FAMILY FUN IN 2014

Route 76 – New area to include classic rides & all-new family coaster

Valleyfair is excited to announce the addition of a new family coaster, Northern Lights, and the development of Route 76, an all-new area geared towards families.

Flying up to 42 feet above Route 76, Northern Lights will have everyone clinging to the handrails for the ultimate family coaster experience. Guests 42” or taller, will rock and roll on over 300 feet of track at speeds of up to 43 mph. At night, Northern Lights’ dancing lights of blues, greens and purples will match the same colorful display of light that illuminate the horizon during this natural phenomenon.

The new Route 76 area will take guests back into amusement park Americana with the return of three Valleyfair classic rides that made their debut in 1976 when the Park opened. Antique Autos, a treasured favorite, returns with a new roadway in Route 76 featuring brand new Cadillac styled cars. Tilt-a-Whirl and Scrambler will also be relocated to the new area and will receive new theming and LED light packages, bringing guests a perfect mix of classic and new to ensure they get their kicks on Route 76.

“Route 76 is an exciting new area for Valleyfair,” said Dave Frazier, Valleyfair’s Vice President and General Manager. “Visiting our park is about creating lasting memories with your friends and families. Bringing back classic rides from the past will allow our guests to share their childhood memories with a new generation, while also creating new memories on Northern Lights, our new family coaster. These unique experiences everyone can enjoy together reinforce Valleyfair as the top destination for families.”

Set to debut in May of 2014, Route 76 will be located by Steel Venom and will include the newly added full service catering facility Picnic Point.

Damn it, I was hoping they wouldn't count that. My guess is they're gonna count Rougarou too.

Well, yeah. Rougarou is a floorless coaster by B&M.

One more till things will really start to heat up.
