Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

^Oops, I just saw millennium Force at the bottom of the table, I'll make sure to read carefully next time. I am kinda surprised that Gatekeeper got the most riders, I was sure that Millennium Force was going to get the most riders.

^Gatekeeper can be dispatched a good bit quicker than Millennium Force. Even with the cable lift, 6,600 feet of track with no mid course vs. less than 4000 feet on Gatekeeper before the mid course makes a difference. Also, MF can't drop off the lift until the previous train pulls into the unload station. It all adds up, not to mention Gatekeeper is new (and has a crapload of attendants. It's insane how many people run Gatekeeper).

That list is not at all shocking. I know, I personally ride GateKeeper more than any of the other coasters in the park per visit. It also has extremely good capacity.

This is why Cedar Point wants another B&M. In 2016 it might go GateKeeper, MF, Dive Machine, Raptor, Rougarou..

I think Magnum or Gemini would probably be up there two. They both have ridiculous capacities too.

So I'm guessing TTD's numbers aren't higher because of downtime etc ?

Dragster and Maverick suffer greatly from low capacity. Dragster is also not open for early entry so most of these other coasters are open for an average of 1 extra hour every day which adds up over the course of the season I'm sure.

Also... Dragster was closed for an entire week around Coastermania and breaks down all the time like you mentioned. It also goes down for wind and rain a lot (though Raptor and Gatekeeper do too).

The only other things that jump out on the list are that the Sky Ride is the 7th most popular ride in the park despite closing for pretty much all of Halloweekends due to wind so good for them, and Power Tower's numbers took a (ahem) huge drop between last year and this year. We probably ride those 2 rides more than any other rides in the park... Sky Ride because it's a nice ride and it's functional and Power Tower because it never has a line so whenever we pass it, we ride it.

The part of the list that I find interesting, is that Iron dragon had more riders that TTD even though iron dragon closes early every night for luminosity.

Is it because Iron Dragon's audience is bigger as it's not only just thrillseekers who would want to ride it but families too?

Sorry to switch the topic here, but if you have some spare time, check out Coaster-net's newest video titled "Cedar Point's Five Year Plan." I don't know that I agree with all of it, but there was some very interesting info that I hadn't heard before (apparently Tony Clark mentioned something about this year's winter chill out in 2014).

I never heard anything about that but I feel like I saw it running 3 trains sometimes

Iron Dragon was a two-train coaster throughout 2014. The third train was not even in storage underneath the station. Even without the third train, Iron Dragon is still an exceptionally good coaster for capacity.

Simple restraints with no seat belts + all loose articles must ride in the train = fast dispatches.

Iron Dragon can definitely hold it's own capacity-wise. I have to agree that the simple restrain adds a bit to that. It's also nice because you can take a small bag or something similar with you. They will usually be fine with you're putting it on the floor.

Wow so ID pulled in those numbers with 2 train operation?? Much is said about B&M's capacity but I think Arrow wrote the book on it
