Philrad71
^^It sounds like they may have increased the number of coasters closed on Friday nights of Halloweekends? We'll be heading out there this afternoon (just for tonight), so I guess we'll find out in person! While I won't lose too much sleep if Mantis, Mean Streak, Gemini and Raptor aren't open, I was hoping for a normal walk-on of WT and perhaps a front seat ride of Blue Streak. I was thinking that those two (as well as Raptor) used to be open on Friday nights in the past?
coasterbill
That's ridiculous... This is the list of rides OPEN on Friday nights. It was updated last month per the URL and all of these rides were open last Friday. Link Blue Streak Cadillac Cars Cedar Downs Dodgem GateKeeper Iron Dragon Kiddie Kingdom (seven rides) Lake Erie Eagles Magnum XL-200 Matterhorn Maverick maXair Mean Streak Millennium Force Midway Carousel Monster Ocean Motion Pipe Scream Planet Spooky Power Tower Raptor Scrambler Skyhawk SlingShot Top Thrill Dragster Wave Swinger Wicked Twister WindSeeker So the only coasters that are closed are Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Mantis, Corkscrew, Gemeni and the Kids coasters. Raptor is the 3rd most popular coaster in the park after Gatekeeper and Millennium Force... why would they close that on Fridays? lol

coasterbill
So it looks like Cedar Point is updating all of their webcams and adding a new one. They're in the process of adding a 3rd camera on the main midway and all 3 cameras will have live streams and the old style still images. Link. Personally I love the new camera since it probably won't move very much and we all know that Sky Ride cam is the best cam.

I was only at the park last Friday right at opening and Raptor was CLOSED all night. Dragster, Millennium, Gatekeeper, Maverick, Magnum we're the only coasters open. I would know because I had never been to Cedar Point before and walked all over the place to be familiar with it for my Saturday trip. By hey...everyone believes the list on the internet, not the eyes that were physically there right? I guess I got screwed then, because a lot of that stuff was indeed closed the whole night. coasterbill
I believe you of course but I'm going to go out on a limb and blame wind or something... Raptor is most definitely open on Friday nights.
coasterlover420
If you're gonna visit parks, I think it's pertinent to understand that because a ride is scheduled to be open doesn't mean it will be open...anyone on this forum will tell you that and support the parks no matter what. You hear about it all the time, and the people who blame the parks are the ones who don't know better. It's not like the parks are sitting there laughing saying, "mwahaha I know you wanted to ride the Scrambler but we're gonna pretend we don't have enough employees mwahahaha". These parks try really hard, give them some credit... I understand it's been said that certain rides on a list weren't open, but there's a difference between being closed and being down. The rides on that list are indeed supposed to be open because the park decided it would be so, but that doesn't mean they aren't broken or the weather isn't bad. The park has their reasons for bringing rides down, and I guarantee you if they want it to be open and it's not, it is in the best interest of the safety of guests. coasterbill
You're absolutely right about that so I should rephrase that and say that Raptor should be open tonight as it's listed on the website as being open and was open 2 weeks ago on Friday night but of course there's no guarantee. I know they have quite a few mechanical problems on Haloweekends Fridays (for example, Millennium Force is closed now and is expected to be closed all night) so you never know. EDIT: Raptor is open... thanks cool new webcam. Just happened to look at it for some reason and it caught a train at the bottom of the drop. MagnumFreak25
I'm still confused on their rain policies. Last time I was their it started raining and all the rides closed except the scrambler. The first to open were MaXair, Wicked Twister, Millennium and Mantis but smaller rides like Blue Streak, Gatekeeper, Raptor, Gemini, Maverick, and Magnum were still closed. Why?!? just Why?!?!? It doesn't make any scene at all to me, Can someone explain it?
Texascoaster89
Oh yes absolutely, I wasn't disappointed that those rides were closed. I get how it goes, I wasn't being greedy as Dragster stayed open without going down the whole night lol. I got what I called a taste on Friday and then everything was ready to go on Saturday. Raptor was the first thing I rode when I got there, really great time this place is!

It doesn't make any scene at all to me, Can someone explain it? It's interesting, on my Saturday visit it started raining about 1030 pm. I thought that might be the end of our trip (we were in line for Millennium) but they kept it going! and it wasn't just a light rain, it poured for about 15 minutes, but we all stayed in line, nobody left. They shut it down for that 15 minutes, but as soon as it became a light rain, they sent one test train and then let people start to ride. It was the only ride in the park going. FaithPlus1
Wow they are moving along quickly. You know I can't help but to think that if Mean Steak received the RMC treatment how improved their coaster collection could be without spending 25 million on a new ride. That would make two rides (mean streak and mantis) that were considered by some to be terrible and make them enjoyable. I can also see the CCMR being removed for something in that spot. Although i am in the minority because I always ride it when o visit CP! I just think good things are coming to CP.
3Mutts
^ To me it seems Matt Ouimet wants to make Cedar Point more of a resort destination for people and redoing hotels and getting rid of shitty ride experiences is a good way to start. Texascoaster89
Mean Streak actually ran very well last weekend, but I agree that it's probably only a matter of time. Problem is, as much as they've spent re-tracking it the last 2 or 3 years, giving it a 10 million RMC treatment would add up to being the cost of a new ride. Could they just topper track it, maybe with a little re-profiling, and turn the trims off?

Most wooden coaster require year maintenance don't they? Im thinking topper track and some reprofiling could turn this into a ride as wonderful as it looks. Texascoaster89
Yes most do obviously, wood rots and that sort of thing, it seem to run pretty well and wasn't all that bumpy, but the trims on the first drop really kind of kill it in my opinion. Hopefully they do just re-profile some of it and change the rides shape a bit and call it good!

Agreed! My first trip ever to Cedar Point was last weekend, and while Mantis really wasn't that bad, I did say once was enough lol It is a cool layout for a ride and look forward to how it'll be as a floorless ride. I'm looking forward to staying in a remodeled hotel next year. I went on a budget this year so I could get flash passes and buy all the souvenirs to my hearts content. So I stayed at this place that was literally around the corner from that TGI Friday's so that I could still get to the park in no time.

silverstreak2016
The future is looking bright for cedar point. I think the chances for a meanstreak refurbishing are high for 2016. Also great americas Goliath 2014 and 2015 deal with rmc for the tallest woodie will be up. Maybe cp will try to incorporate some records into MS too.
