Another update, as things are moving smoothly at the STR Construction Site. Straight from Cedar Point themselves, we have pictures and a new blog.

 

BLOG UPDATE

 

We're getting closer. Inching ever-so-slowly to May 15. We've talked about the signs of spring earlier, but just like leaves seem to just sprout up all at once, our ride cars at the park are doing the same:

Ride vehicles are coming out of their winter rehab and onto the midways, which means we're almost ready to get them assembled and running again. We love it.

 

Speaking of spring and leaves, the leaves are now sprouting at Shoot the Rapids, as crews are planting trees, installing fences and cleaning up the ride site.

 

We've also been told that we're days away from filling the reservoirs with water. We'll start with the island reservoir and then move over to the mainland reservoir.

 

The water is pumped in through regular water lines, cycled through the filtration system and will then become the ride's means of movement and saturation.

Rock work in the final splash pool is complete.

Anyone know if you are able to use a gift card to purchase the Spring ticket? I would assume not since you can only buy it online, but I want to be certain. I have e-mailed them numerous times and they haven't answered.

When I checked out the webcam this morning, it looked like the filling on Millennium Island has begun

^ Don't think so because it is now filled all the way.

On my computer, I can still see concrete near the rock wall. Wouldn't it go all the way to there?

I am not sure if it goes all the way up or not but if they are testing the pumps than they wouldn't need to fill it all the way. Plus you can see the differences between the pools and how the one on the right has rain water.

^That's just the framing, I'm sure when they get around to it there will be a roof.

Boy, one car trains will really kill capacity on the original capacity machine.

That happens to be right where the trims are. Maybe they are adding magnetic brakes, which would be awesome (That's probably not the case, but I can hope). Or maybe Magnum will become the tallest and fastest wild mouse

I made a little time-lapse of the webcam yesterday before it went down. You can see quite a lot of details (like Power Tower moving in the backgroud) in the "HD" version:

My guess is they installed new brakes and are testing them out. Whether they are magnetic or not, I have no idea.

I bet they tried to cycle it with one car and it valleyed. Just sayin'.

Or it just valleyed during testing. They'd have to remove the cars one by one, could just be a picture taken before the final car was taken off.

Why would that be awesome? There would be no more random trimless rides.

 

Interesting picture. I'm going to say it valleyed. It has been both chilly and windy lately.

^Yeah, I gotta say retrofitting those trains with magnetic brakes, while plausible, wouldn't be practical. That ride performs very, very differently from day to day depending on weather because of its location right on the lakefront. The trims are turned off on colder/windier days so it has enough speed to finish and keep the interval up, and turned on when it's warm/humid so it doesn't kill all 36 people on board. Magnetic brakes would probably throw a wrench in that equilibrium they have going with the trims. Not only that, I can't even imagine how strong the magnetic brakes would have to be on the final brake run because that thing FLIES into those brakes.

First up are random updates from around the park. MaXair got some new paint and the only thing in the spot that Demon Drop used to occupy is dirt.

Some people have said that there may be some theming in the tunnel, but based on its size it would be very minimal.

I don't know about you guys. But I kind of like the tunnel without the roof, I think they should keep it that way.
