If that first lift if really a "launch" then I'm calling shenanigans!

The next person that says shenanigans in here is getting pistol-whipped! "Hey Farva, what's that restaurant you like with the trinkets on the wall?"

Shenanigans!

end random quote

The capacity on this won't be too great unless they have separate loadin area (a la MF, but in one station, so a la Shakira). 6 trains is nice, but only 12 people per train?!? That's a max of 72 on the ride at once, and you could get that with two MF trains. Also, if they have seatbelts in addition to the OTSRs, the capacity will be terrible.

What a wonderful layout it has, something for everyone, loops, barrel-rolls, tunnels etc

How much will it have over the hills..?

Is it the 1st "Lim" lift-hill..? No more chains

Hope to ride it in 2008

California Screamin' has one....

For all those that think Maverick isn't all that, I'd like to know how you'd react if UK style coasters, which are half the size and do no where near as much as Maverick, were installed in the States.

I'm sure most UK coaster fanatics would have loved Rita to have been more like Maverick.

It sure looks good to me. I suppose you can't please everyone.

Maverick looks like everything California Screamin' SHOULD have been.

It looks like a really fun coaster that many families will get to enjoy together (48" height requirement IS a big deal)

Robb, even though at the time I figured you were joking in some way, it's still hilarious to read, "So hypothetically, if this is an Aquatrax..."

Anyway, this ride looks freakin' awesome, and I'm EXTREMELY glad that the best of both CP and WDW are being blended into one helluva ride.

// Finding out it wasn't an Aquatrax was the best moment of the week

Best of WDW? A few faux rock tunnels and some left over mining equipment versus a place that builds entire 200 foot mountains for their rides?

^ Where are people not pleased with it? I mean, for what it is "A family coaster" as the park says so themselves, it's fine. IMO, this ride really isn't that much more than Rita with a vertical drop and some inversions.

Even early on with the "AquaTrax" stuff we've been saying that this wasn't going to be any kind of "biggest, tallest, fastest, blow you away" kind of ride.

It's solid, yes. And I'm sure it will be a LOT of fun, in the same sense that Rita was a lot of fun, but it didn't blow me away. It's going to be a hit in the same way California Screamin' is a hit because it's so accessible to so many people. I guarantee you more people will end up going on this than Dragster or Millennium Force because, like Powder Keg, it won't come off as intimidating as those bigger rides.

It sounds like the only dissapointment is from people who wanted the next "biggest, tallest, fastest" but even those people don't seem to be complaining about what the ride will deliver once they get their head around what it is.

Look at the trend with many parks lately - Mummy, Powder Keg, Italian Job, Rita, etc..... These "family" thrill rides have been a HUGE success for the parks. While they might not show up on our personal "top ten" lists, they are doing good for the demographic.

Granted. I meant that CP is finally getting some decent ride theming around the place. "Break out the cardboard and neon paint" is no longer the extent of their theming abilities.

Yes I agree with Robb and with the success of these type of coasters I have a feeling more are going to be poping up all over! Just look at Mystery Mine and Griffon. There is nothing biggest, fastest, highest about those!

Do you all really think it's like Storm Runner? I know they've both got the horse and western theming, but I have to say that when I think about what the ride is "like" Storm Runner isn't actually one of the rides that comes to mind.

I think more "Powder Keg", "California Screamin", and maybe one of the Eurofighters like "Speed."

To me the shorter height of 105 versus 150-180 (depending on whose Storm Runner stats you go by) puts Storm Runner more in the "thrill" range and less in the "family" category.

Yup they are both Intamin, both have a launch, and both have inversions, but for some reason Storm Runner is just not a ride I've been making the comparison to.

^ Yeah, to me Griffon is more into the thrill category then the family category too. Mystery Mine is the next closest thing. And after SDC put in Powder Keg it totally made sense for Dollywood to get a "family" thrill ride.

Funny you say that, I was thinking the same thing... infact I was talking to someone the other night and talking about how this ride strangely reminds me of Powder Keg. Both have a launch, kindof western theme, lifthill (though Maverick's is a little bit different) and go all crazy through the woods and stuff... I guess?

Anyways, I think Maverick will be cool, I think Cedar Point needed something like this, not a huge record breaking coaster, just something small and enjoyable. Although I guess its not really SMALL considering the ride seemed to be pretty long.

I'm actually pretty exited. I mean...

1. Launched lift hill

2. Sweet sweet trick track

3. I've always wanted to see a heartline made that way =D

4. 2 stengal dives?

5. So much twisted airtime...

If this ride brings whats it claims to, it may just become my next undesputed #1 coaster...

Griffon will be the tallest dive coaster in the world; the first floorless dive coaster

Ok what is your point? I still dont see biggest, tallest or fastest here. Yes it may be the tallest dive coaster but it is still no MF! It is nothing like MF! Griffon to me is more of a gimmick coaster (dive..floorless). I think Griffon will be fun but I dont feel it will give me that sense of awe. Even Tatsu isn't in the biggest highest fastest range either.

Ya Robb I am not saying that Griffon is a family coaster, I am just saying that you dont see to many more of those "super thriller" type coasters going up that have the biggest, tallest or fastest elements in them.

This ride looks amazimg, and while I probably would have liked a large 10+ looper more, I've got to say that this looke to be the best coaster CP has added since... well ever. It is nice to see a family thrill ride added, and like Robb, I am also reminded of Powder Keg by this ride.
