The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I was there yesterday and Riddlers train was sitting on it's lift most of the day until the end of the day. They starting testing it so we waited for them to open it and they did. By the way, I got to ride X2 for the first time yesterday and it was a very nice improvement. The flames are so hot when you ride in the back it was quite a shock.

Has anyone used the X2 Flight Pass voucher that was given out when renewing their Magic Mountain pass (by a certain date)? Do the ride ops know about it or are they going to look at my funny when I try and use it?

The voucher says to go through the Fast Pass entrance.. does that even exist anymore?

Was there yesterday and I noticed signage for this years Fright Fest along with dates.

Watched CSI: Live, it wasn't spectacular though I did enjoy it more than the Batman show.

The parking lot seemed packed but the lines inside were pretty short.

It was really hot in the hundreds. At night it cooled down to about 87 degrees. We did Log Jammer at night and saw a kagillion huge spiders. Actually it was about 15 of them all around, but they were huge!

There was no fire on X2, probably since it was pretty windy out. The effect wasn't missed though, the last thing we wanted was more hot air blowing at us.

I'm guessing that Colossus' 30th will pass quietly. It's not the park's most popular coaster, even though it's the only wooden one. They did nothing for Revolution's 30th in 2006 except touch up some paint.

And in three years, it'll be Gold Rusher's 40th!

^ In the parking lot under it, right?

Seriously, SFMM doesn't usually do anything for its coasters' "birthdays." Remember that this year was Riddler's 10th, and all they did was take away its buddy, Freefall. Not much of a birthday present, huh?

My boyfriend just got home from MM and he said that the new Revolution train is on the track and he rode it. He said it's very nice looking, something about stars and Magic Mountain logo on it. He also said it smelled new, like new car smell, it rode much smoother and the restraints were softer. He had no camera to take a picture with so hopefully someone can get one sometime soon.

He was tired so I couldn't get too much info out of him but if I get anymore details out of him I'll post it.

^ I'd like to see pictures of that! The original color scheme was really nice. Sometime in the next few weeks, I may take a trip back out there. The last time I was there was on Gravy Train Day!

I was there last night with my daughter for her 9th birthday and you are correct Revolution has 2 completely reconditioned cars on the track. Seeing the white car with stars and strips on it (like it was orgionly painted in 1976) was sweet. The ride was soooo much smother it kinda reminded me of when I was 13 again. It even made the OVH seem tolerable. Great job SFMM. Park was empty went after work around 4:30 but it was really messy. We had to go to 4 different bathrooms to find a fairly clean one.Well we still got our garlic fries and hell isn't that why we love MM?

I was there last night too, and I was disappointed with the park operations. After hearing all the improvements to the park in terms of management, I was surprised to see overflowing trash cans, dirty bathrooms, and trash throughout the lines and food areas. In addition, why do the ride op. crews for RRv & Batman always seem to be the worst? I was highly impressed with SFGAdv. last Friday, and I wish I could have said the same about SFMM.

According to Screamscape:

2009 - GCI Wooden Coaster - In Development - (6/24/08) I hinted at it before and now more Screamscape sources have stepped forward to confirm that Six Flags Magic Mountain will indeed get a new GCI wooden coaster for 2009. It seems that everyone was quite impressed with the premier of Evel Knievel at SFSL and are now very looking forward to seeing that GCI can come up with for a “bigger and meaner” California cousin. Nothing has been rumored as far as the site for the new coaster, though it would almost seem wrong to put it up on Psyclone’s old location I think, so anyone else have any other ideas?

Looks like the rumors might have come true?

Apparently Mark Shapiro let it slip at an ACE event that the new coaster at SFMM would be GCI and themed to The Terminator. I've heard from a few people that the new coaster would be in the Cyclone Bay area, but will not use the Pysclone land.

Now THIS is exciting!

How could they possibly theme it to Terminator when the park 30 minutes away has a Terminator attraction? I'm not saying it's impossible, I just think it doesn't make a whole lot of sense and would create confusion in the marketplace.

If SFMM is indeed getting a GCI woodie, it is good news, but it pretty much will rule out Intamin wood for a while. It's kind of like trying to get with a hot chick, only for her to tell you she doesn't think of you "that way," and then tries to hook you up with her not quite as hot friend.

Wow. (2) GCIs opening in California next year, for a total of 3.

For me it's it's not so much about the designers/builders of the ride, but rather how creative and intense the layout design turns out.

Either way these rides are fun, and the Millennium Flyers are FTW!

^^I'd say SFMM could use a "proper" hyper coaster (as fun as Goliath is, 3 hills just doesn't cut it for airtime fans), a true accelerator/rocket coaster, and, of course, a dive machine. A mid-sized "family" steel coaster is fine, but they usually end up being low capacity nightmares.

I think SFMM needs a woodie more than anything else.
