redmenace8 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I've wanted to ride a ride like Green Lantern since I first saw one. It reminds me of a Zipper. I guess this is SFMM's way of getting another roller coaster notch on the bedpost and a flat ride. I know it works for me. I am easy to please, so, I know I will like it. I just don't know how long I will wait for it. I will certainly make the effort. As for Superman, I am glad they are renewing the ride. That tall tower looks good wrapped up in those bright colors.
Tmcdllr Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Way early but I expect the 19th coaster to be amazing and the 20th to be totally epic, can you imagine, 20 rollercoasters! That would be an unbelievable number of coasters in one park and if this Zac Spin is a an indication of who they might come from one of them just might be a Mega Lite. I'm so happy this park is moving forward in this direction and I hope it only gets better. When I used to go there 30 years ago never in a million years would I have thought that it would grow to the awesomeness that it has today. This is so exciting!
Josh Linn Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I also found it interesting that they listed X2's opening date as 2008. I know the ride was re-did was renamed X2 in '08, but it technically opened in 2002. Not really a big deal, but found it interesting nonetheless.
GuyL44 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Wow! This park is like the epitome of all things awesome. I so wish I could go!
Gmaster562 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Great! Now i feel like i cant go till 2011! I'm excited, but a zacspin? They look fun but, they've already got X2!
snoflake15 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 In all the good news the one disappointment for me is that Superman is not getting TOT2 tunnels. That would really have added to the experience imo. Â That's just being greedy I suppose.
Nando! Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 In all the good news the one disappointment for me is that Superman is not getting TOT2 tunnels. That would really have added to the experience imo. Â That's just being greedy I suppose. Â Maybe there using that money to have the trains actually go high up the tower.
ebl Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Regarding the restraints on the ZacSpin, if they are like the one in the picture a ways back, they should be very comfortable. And it would be nice if that same style could be applied to other coasters that require OTSRs. Â Just a couple of comments on Green Lantern...I wonder if green supports and a purple-ish track might have worked. The ride would look less like Riddler's Revenge's Little Brother and have a bit more identity. But remember, too, what we saw in that video wasn't set in stone...things can change. Also, how cool would it have been if Intamin had created a unique configuration and/or slightly longer layout for this? Â Whatever the case, I still look forward to riding it. Â Eric
robbalvey Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Also, how cool would it have been if Intamin had created a unique configuration and/or slightly longer layout for this? They haven't. Be happy enough that it's the same layout as Insane...which is one of the best rides I've ever been on. Edited October 15, 2010 by robbalvey
RoCo Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 ...Just watched the video again... still gives me the chills... Â I can see how, with the proper weight distribution, that Green Lantern thing could really deliver a complete mindrape of a ride... scared and yet very, very intrigued. Â But I'll say again, S:EFK has me just as excited. They don't seem to show much of the station. Really curious to learn what re-theme will happen there. I've got high hopes they'll add some kewl pre-launch effects, like some kind of hint of the planet going kablooie (sound FX, flashing lights?), maybe toss in a Marlon Brando audio clip? "Live as one of them, Kal-El, to discover where your strength and your power are needed. Always hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage. They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son." KABOOM! Â I would love that so...
PAL Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I think I'll hold my breath for the official announcement. For those with industry history, what's the chance this doesn't happen? Â 2011 is shaping up to be a great one for Six Flags. Between the Giant's makeover, the SFOG addition, and now this Zac Spin, the company is breaking all kinds of new ground. Nice bounce-back.
Sir Clinksalot Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Going to Fright Fest tonight ... hard to believe that with all the years it's been going on we've never gone and done the mazes. Hopefully it won't be too busy since it's a Friday.
themeparkman25 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Also, how cool would it have been if Intamin had created a unique configuration and/or slightly longer layout for this? They haven't. Be happy enough that it's the same layout as Insane...which is one of the best rides I've ever been on. Â They actually do offer a couple other models, though, only the Kirnu/Inferno and Insane models have been built. Â I also remember seeing another model that was identical to Insane (I think), but had an extra hill at the end. Anyways, here are three different kinds of zacspin available. IMO, the second one looks fun, but I think the Insane model is the best. Â Jordan "Did my research before building my model" Darrington The top two models are 25M versions. The bottom one is a 50M version.
4rturo Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I'm confused Which one are they building at the mountain?
themeparkman25 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 ^SFMM isn't getting any one of those exactly. The one they are getting is like Insane at Gronalund. The top left one is the Kirnu/Inferno model, not what SFMM is getting. The other two in that picture haven't been built. Â This is SFMM's version.
Djournee Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Is it confirmed anywhere that SFMM is getting this specific model? Since it is MM and the new go big campaign it is possible to get the larger version. As well given this may have been in the planning for awhile intamin and MM may have opted to do an even larger concept. It may be wishful thinking or brainstorming but i wouldn't utilize just the video as hard evidence this is the exact model since it was just a leaked version and not an official release. I'm just saying the potential to go big and have the first Zacspin in the US could be unique in its own SF way. As well if you look at the one shown and the versions that Intamin has listed on their site there are very distinct differences in supports and layout. Edited October 15, 2010 by Djournee
mudvayneimn Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Neither, it's the same as Insane, but that might be a custom model, don't think I ever saw that version of the ride released. Â Edit* Beat me to it.
darienlakerules Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 it seems that six flags has decided to bring in more European rides that normally aren't seen is such big parks cause of capacity. Euro fighter, now this?
SharkTums Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 ^The influx of European rides again could also be due to the Euro coming back down a bit in relation to the US Dollar. For the last few years the Euro has been very high against the dollar but in the last year it has come down significantly. Â I know at one point there was a park chain that made the decision not to build any European rides at the then current exchange rate.
robbalvey Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) I know at one point there was a park chain that made the decision not to build any European rides at the then current exchange rate. Exactly, this is why over the last few years you've seen more rides by US/Canadian companies like GCI, S&S, Prosilde, or ride improvements made by USA companies like SSI and Iron Horse, and even used rides moved around (Goliath at SFFT, La Ronde, Dance Coaster, Chang, Demon Drop, Dominator, etc...) Â I remember speaking to someone at Six Flags a couple of years ago who told me that if they bought a ride from a European company it would have to be a smaller ride, like a Wild Mouse (Dark Knight), or a major decision that would carry the park for quite a few years. Gmaster562 Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I noticed that in the video, when it zooms out of SM and into green lantern The left side goes higher up, but the right side seems to have a faster Exceleration
Tmcdllr Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 You can't really judge how this will operate by the animation. I mean really, watch the part when it is the POV of Superman, (at about 38 seconds in the video) there is like 10 seconds of hangtime on the tower which we all know is exaggerated in the video because in reality you may get up to 6 seconds.
