West Coast Bash 2016 Tickets On Sale!
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know there was some talk about this maybe not happening again next year, but I sure hope that is not the case, as I'd really love to make it out to one finally! I'm already in the pre-planning phase of heading out to So-Cal to visit my brother (who lives in WeHo), so if I can time it with WCB weekend, I've got lodging, and potentially transportation already taken care of! Here's hoping that I'm partaking with you all next year! -
True Coaster Credits
DILinator replied to Angle O. Descent's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I still keep track of my coaster "credits", and enjoy attempting to rank the top 100 or so (because I love to rank pretty much anything!), long gone are the days of stressing over racking up silly little kiddie credits, or driving all around to hit random crappy looking coasters just to add to my total. Now, I'm not saying I'll never ride kiddie coasters (I just did at Waldameer, and have the embarrassing picture to prove it), and won't grab an isolated coaster if it's convenient. However, as I've gotten older, I've just started caring less and less about how many coasters I ride, and focusing more on enjoying the heck out of the each experience I do have on one, even if I've already ridden it a bunch. Also, finding new people to experience said coasters with is a big part of the fun. I have friends who do go the other route, and more power to them. That's just not for me anymore. -
I too, think removing Viper for a B&M Dive would be awesome! A Giga that extends to the back of the park would be pretty cool as well. I understand that there's a lot of nostalgia surrounding the old Arrow loopers, and some people still enjoy them. But I've also seen even marginal coaster riders, people who are not at all enthusiasts, hate them, and refuse to ride any in the future. It just doesn't make sense for a park to hold on to large coasters that elicit that kind of response from the GP, simply for the sake of nostalgia.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm in the same boat. I haven't stayed at Breakers in 30 years, and at the rates they're charging now, rather doubt that's going to change any time soon. What do I expect from a hotel? Well, I can tell you that I get pretty much everything I "expect" from a hotel stay, when I stay in a $50 - $60 hotel. So, no, I don't think charging $500 more than that just because you can, is really defensible from the "What do you expect?" perspective. "It's a resort hotel", provides a little more justification, but for going to Cedar Point, that's just never going to cut it with me... Maybe if Cedar Point was in the Bahamas, but otherwise... -

True, but I've never driven remotely that fast, so it's irrelevant to my point! -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't think of a single ride that I like more during the day than I do at night. Night rides are amazing on pretty much any coaster. I get what you're saying, and agree, to an extent. Heck, just driving in a car seems faster and more exciting at night! What I was driving at though, regarding KI, is that some coasters, such as Backlot Stunt Coaster, Vortex, or The Racer, are better at night in the sense that yeah, it's dark so they're better. However, if I'm going on a Friday night, and want to get in as many awesome night rides on the coasters that really deliver then, I would likely ride those coasters I just mentioned while it's still light out, when I first get to the park. Obviously, Flight of Fear falls into category completely as well. But yes, night rides are just awesome, regardless! -
Rocky Mountain Construction 2017?
DILinator replied to kickflipbacktail's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kennywood RMC CONFIRMED!!! Seriously though, if that is true, I am almost delirious at the thought of what wondrous creation RMC will fashion at Kennywood! Silverwood makes a ton of sense, too given its proximity and previous working relationship with RMC. Additionally, a foreign park could be getting one as well, and typically aren't as hasty in their announcements as the US parks. If the purported 4 RMCs in 2017 rumor is actually true, I'd be surprised at this point. Especially considering the 3 S&S 4D Free Flys. We shall see, grasshoppers... We shall see... -

^I just wish the other three teams in their division played the Pats tougher, because that's been one of the keys to the NE "dynasty", is basically getting handed 5-6 victories out of the gate, and getting a leg up on the rest of the AFC competition for HFA in the Playoffs. Honestly though, Pats winning last night was a bit fluky (as was the Broncos win, in much the same way), and I think Miami's defense is going to give Garoppolo and Belicheck all they can handle next week. Seattle is as good if not better than NE overall, pretty even from a coaching standpoint, and Wilson is MUCH better than Garoppolo, and yet they couldn't hardly do anything at home against Miami. It'll be interesting to see how that game in NE goes next week, especially if Gronk is sidelined again! -
Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Am I correct in saying that there have not been any official renderings of the new front gate yet? That's what I'm most excited to see from WoF! (Though don't get me wrong, a Huss Condor is pretty cool, too!) Exactly. Anybody who is setting their expectations too high when it comes to most Cedar Fair parks these days, hasn't been paying attention as of late... -

Well, the first full Sunday of NFL action is in the books, and it's been an exciting start to the season! What is everybody's biggest surprise so far? I think for me, I really didn't expect the Lions to be able to win on the road against the Colts - especially after they missed that extra point near the end. Granted, the Colts defense looks like a bottom three unit, if not the worst, but still... The Lions have a lot of history of epic failures, and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, so it was nice to see them turn that on its head for a change. Also, it was horrible to see Keenan Allen go down again, likely for the year... Poor guy just can't catch a break it seems. He's a great talent, but his prime years are being eaten by injury, As for Fantasy Football, I had a rough week in a lot of my leagues (I'm in 7 - don't be me), as I often performed well, only to face a team with one of the week's absurd performers. In our TPR Fantasy League, victory is not impossible for me, but it seems highly unlikely, barring DeAngelo Williams getting injured early in the game. Dang you Brandin Cooks!!! -

Game: Careful What You Wish For
DILinator replied to MayTheGForceBeWithYou's topic in Random, Random, Random
Granted. But TC, and Tatsu are down for rehabs when you go, and you realize that none of the other coasters are good enough to off-set that disappointment, or make up for the park's operational deficiencies. I wish my real life didn't play out like this "Careful What You Wish For" thread... -

That's actually extremely expensive for a movie... I saw it when I was in theaters and I freakin' LOVED it! Great movie, great plot, the first-person idea was really well made... EVERYTHING! I didn't pay that much money to watch it, I essentially got paid that much money to watch it, since I have a job where I can watch movies while I'm working. Heck, I get paid to make most of the posts I do on TPR here as well! So, my point was that even getting paid that much to watch it, was still a waste of my time, and attention. Regarding the movie, I'm totally of the mindset that films are subjective experiences, and to each their own. However, as a writer myself, and a bit of a snob when it comes to good plotting, I cringe at you referring to that threadbare tentpole to hang action sequences on as a "great plot"!

Most Overrated coaster?
DILinator replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Hmm... I rode it last year in the very back, and was shocked at how "smooth" (relatively speaking) it was during that helix now. Of course, it was a nightmare before - awful - so that could be coloring my impression! -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've seriously considered going to Kings island's Haunt event simply because of their hours. Those 1AM closings would give you so much time for Beast night rides that it's almost impossible to resist. You should definitely do it! As I said, I did that last year, and it was awesome! Haunt at KI in general, just had a cooler vibe in the dark, than the Halloweekends at CP did. Of course KI coasters at night just come alive. Everybody knows about The Beast, Banshee, and even Diamondback (to a lesser extent), but smaller coasters like The Bat, Firehawk, and especially Adventure Express were much more fun than their daytime ride counterparts! If you decide to come still this year, especially if it's the 23rd or 7th, let me know! -
^Agreed! Especially since Ouimet has taken over, CF's moves at the various parks all seem to have a "chess match" sort of feel to them, planning-wise. Setting up things piece by piece, before striking for a big move. It does seem like a lot of pieces are setting up at different parks for 2018 to be a big year. I would think we'll see no less than three new coasters in the CF chain, and probably four.
