E3 Cancelled For Next Year And Beyond...
YoshiFan replied to FeelTheFORCE's topic in Random, Random, Random
I think they should follow the way Japan does it and have shows that are open to the public. I think with the Tokyo Game Expo, 1 day is for media only and the other 2 days are for fans and maybe media as well. There definetly seems to be a demand for it. There was a local video game expo in my area last fall that wasn't a trade show but more like a expo. Red Octane was there demonstrating In The Groove and Guitar Hero with tournaments. There was also a GameCrazy stand promoting some deal they had going on (it was for classic games and they had tubs of the games you could buy right at the expo with the deal), vintage gaming setups and arcade machines etc. It was jammed packed and Guitar Hero had about a 25 minute wait (nothing compared to E3 lines but not bad for a small local type expo). -
Nice pictures, the fair looks quite interesting I also have to say that I think Midway is one of the best video game companies out there. I love arcade style games (I'll take Blitz over Madden any day!) and Midway seems to be one of the only companies releasing those type of games anymore (even if they are only console releases now). Are you serious about the 120 hour work weeks? I had wanted to work for a video game company but if that's the norm than I'm probably going to re-consider.

That is shocking that Talon was running 1 train. In my past 6 visits to Dorney, Talon has always run with 2 trains even with crowds so light that the trains were less than half full. It sounds like it was a lot more crowded than normal.

I never had a chance to ride it when it was in Ocean City, NJ, but on Tuesday I was on Doo Wooper at Morey's which is a clone of it and the turns seemed very tame even before the first set of brakes at the top of the rides compared to other wild mouse coasters I have been on. Regardless, I am a little nervous every time I go on the Doo Wooper because the first incident at Ocean City is in the back of my head but now I'll probably be even more nervous next time I go to Morey's.

Whoever posted that information is wrong. I saw 3 different SuperNova's at Wildwood, NJ on Tuesday. Check DDRFreak.com, SuperNova is all over the place. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
YoshiFan replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hydra, it should have been Talon but a storm closed all the rides so I didn't have a chance to finish my Dorney trip with Talon like I always do. -
Dorney won't have any major lines on the amusement side. Figure 10 - 20 minutes on average for the major coasters since you said you are going on a Saturday (on a weekday, the coasters are almost always walk ons to 5 minute waits)

I prefer the DS to the PSP but I think they provide 2 different gaming experiences. DS is good for unique and different type of games for a quick gaming fix like 10 - 15 minutes. PSP seems to be better for more in depth gaming like a console type games. Grand Theft Auto for the PSP alone made getting the PSP worth it for me. As for the N-Gage, all jokes aside, I seriously was going to get the system. EB had the system down to $19.99 and all games for $2.99 so for under $60, I could have gotten a system and 10 games. Problem was, I went to about 6 EB's and none had the system and said they hadn't carried it in years

A look back at Whalom Park - Photo TR

Cool pictures, closed parks that still have rides left in them (and everything else like the games and other buildings) seem sort of spooky to me. -
Oldest Coaster You've Ridden

Thunderhawk at Dorney -
Ocean City has 2 piers, Playland's Castaway Cove has: Python, A Pinfari ZL42 Flitzer, heavily braked Sea Serpent (Miler Kiddie Coaster, adults can ride) Gillian's has: Wacky Worm Runaway Train, the new L&T coaster Miner Mike/Kiddie Coaster Atlantic City just has Steel Pier which has a Crazy Mouse. $6 a ride which is kind of expensive IMO. Even though I go to Atlantic City on average 4 - 5 times a summer I still don't have the credit because I really question the safety of the rides there (like the log flume accident where they sent boats through the ride with no water in the trough after the drop).

UK Photo TR: DDR Machines of UK Theme Parks
YoshiFan replied to WillMontu's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
DDR isn't as popular in US arcades anymore because it's the same old versions. DDR USA in 2000 was the last US DDR arcade game, and since every arcade it seems in the US has upgraded to Extreme which was the last Japanese arcade mix since 2002, it got old and boring. Hardcore players moved onto In The Groove and In The Groove 2. I think with the newly released DDR Supernova in arcades (released in Japan, the US and Europe I think), with arcades just starting to get the game, it will get popular again in US arcades. -
Nice pictures. I like Ocean City a lot, enough that I go 5 - 6 times a summer. I also had the chance to ride the new coaster this past Monday, Overall I thought the ride is fun and a decent family coaster, not too intense but fun. I thought the ride forceless except for the last helix and it didn't go that fast. It's not something I would ride more than once a visit (since it's pay as you go), but for what it is, it was fun. I also wish they would have kept the City Jet because I thought that was a more fun ride and those Schwarkopz spiral lift hill rides are hard to find today. I prefer Playland to Gillian's because I'm not into flats that much and I think Playland has the better coasters. I didn't know adults could ride the Miner Mike without kids. I don't have that credit yet but I'm not sure I have the guts to ride that coaster (I rode the kiddie coaster at Playland over Memorial Day weekend and it was uncomfortable being the only person over the age of 8 riding alone)

Your coaster count for the year?
YoshiFan replied to canada's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm just going to list Dorney because that's the only park I have been to more than once this year, with 3 trips so far: Hydra: 8 Talon: 11 Steel Force: 4 (would have been more but closed on opening day) Laser: 3 Thunderhawk: 4 Wild Mouse: 2 -
Do you talk to strangers in line with you?
YoshiFan replied to PhillyGirl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have only been to Dorney alone and luckily because of the non existant lines, there really isn't a time when I have had the chance to talk with people in lines. I also like to listen in on conversations like the group that was waiting in the station for Thunderhawk and one of the friends insisted they were in line for Steel Force -
I really hope this isn't going to become a trend. Sea shore parks have a different feel than a regular park and it's I always look forward to going to the Jersey shore parks every summer. I'd hate not to be able to go to Morey's or the piers in Ocean City in a few years because they want to build houses/condos there.

When I saw the picture of Pump It Up in the arcade, I thought, how could Disney get rid of the DDR Disney's Rave, arcade machine since a Disney DDR game fits in with Disney World a lot more than Pump It Up. I just looked and found out it was moved to the back of the arcade. Nice pictures, I like that one of Space Mountain at the end where it looks like the front of the rocket is glowing

SLC's really that bad?
YoshiFan replied to jmccalip's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I voted They're OK. I have only been on Great Nor'Easter and it's a decent ride. I'd take a B&M invert over it anyday but I plan to ride the SLC every time I go to Morey's -

Nice photos. I was watching those auctions and out of the 500 spots available it looked like less than 25 or so actually sold. I would have went since it was so easy to win the auction (3 hours of ERT with so few people, admission and parking would have been worth $100) but I couldn't get there that day. -
The coaster at Gillian's in Ocean City is completed, I think it's open but not 100% sure on that (was at Ocean City memorial day weekend but did not get to Gillian's). Gillian's also added a Wacky Worm last year so even if the new coaster isn't open, you can still get a credit (adults can ride without a kid)

Favorite Park In...
YoshiFan replied to dragoncoaster1292's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Easy decision for me, Hersheypark. Not only is it my favorite park in PA, it's my favorite park (not counting Disney parks). An great wooden coaster collection and a decent steel coaster selection -something from almost every major manufacturer; Intamin, B&M, Arrow, Schwarkopz, Mack, Vekoma and just an overall nice atmosphere. -
Nice pictures, seeing the moon reflection on the ocean really makes me want to go to the shore (I love being at the sote and looking out the window at night and just staring at the moon and the ocean). Ok, maybe the sea shore piers with coasters have something to do with me wanting to go to the shore as well

I never considered getting it because I already have Guitar Freaks 1st and 2nd Mix for PS1 (Konami's guitar game series that they never released in the US other than in arcades). Because it sounds so good, I'll get it eventually but I'm waiting for a good deal before I buy it (under $30)
