It sounds like a lot of fun for kids. I always enjoyed school trips to places like science museums and this sounds even better.

I don't understand why RT always has one train operation. It's bad enough only 1 side is ever open but with 1 train on 1 side, it's running at 1/4th capacity. I bet that line was easily an hour to an hour and a half. I have waited for the left side when it's slightly into the 1st switchback and 2 trains running and it was 20 minutes.

The only time the park gets crowded and even then it's not considered long lines for an amusement park is a weekend in July and August. I went on a Sunday in August this year and Talon was 40 minutes, Hydra was 15 minutes, Laser was 20 minutes, Steel Force was 12 minutes (3 trains), Thunderhawk was 5 minutes and Wild Mouse was about 45 min - 1 hour (did not wait for that one). The problem is that when you are used to 0 - 5 minute waits, a 40 minute or even a 15 minute wait seems to take forever.
-
I agree that it won't be crowded. I have been to the park every weekend since Labor Day (except for the weekend it was closed to the public) and my longest wait has been 10 minutes for Steel Force. I love the lack of crowds and usually average about 6 rides an hour including walking to each ride and having to walk through the empty queue each time. Last Sunday it was so dead I even had a solo ride on Dominator. I think the must rides are: Talon, Hydra, Steel Force, Laser, Wild Mouse, Thunderhawk, Whip and Dominator.

It's going to be packed the weekend of the 28th, the 29th probably won't be much better. I was considering going to the park this month but decided to hold off on going until April next year when it will hopefully be somewhat dead (30+ minute lines are bad enough for me so I have no patience to stand in line for 2 - 3 hours or purchase a Q-Bot).

What's next, kickball? How about getting rid of swings from playgrounds since a kid could get hit by another kid's foot. It's sad that this is what has happened because everyone is so sue happy.

Did you ride Laser? That has an even slower lift hill, especially at the beginning. It's so slow that it takes a good 4 - 5 minutes from one dispatch to the next even though the part after the lift hill until the brakes is around 30 seconds. -
Running one train...

The Sky Ride at Hersheypark 1974-1992
YoshiFan replied to Ccron10's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember going on the ride I guess in the late 80's/early 90's but don't remember much other than thinking it had similar cars to the ride at WDW (as opposed to the ride still at Hershey and Dutch Wonderland where your feet hang). -
And they still run Music Express and The Whip in a thunderstorm (except for when the power went out this summer while I was on the Whip) which was surprising since I would think every ride would haev been closed in a thunderstorm

Photo TR: Elissa Pre-orders the Nintendo Wii!
YoshiFan replied to SharkTums's topic in Random, Random, Random
Best Buy typically does not have pre-orders for systems. -
Lines were supposedly horrible at Great Adventure yesterday. El Toro had a 3+ hour line, Medusa was 2 hours at one point, Kingda Ka was 3 - 4 hours (only 2 trains and 1 was just for Flash Pass users, so it was effectively 1 train operation) etc. I'd pick ERT like conditions at Dorney over those type of lines anyday.

If anyone is interested in pre-ordering a PS3, I saw this posted on another site: this was supposedly a Gamestop e-mail "Limited PlayStation 3 Pre-order GameStop and EB Games will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 console on Tuesday, October 10, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to deplete this allocation very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at this time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $100 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household."

2 adults can only ride in the Wild Mouse car because Cedar Fair is probably just being over protective. They claim there is a 680 pound (if it's not 680, it's around that number) weight limit. Just like how other rides in the park have weight limits yet you don't see the same rides in other parks having these weight limits. Combined with the horrible loading procedure for the Wild Mouse and it almost always seems to have a line that's not worth waiting in. That cemetery of past rides is a little upsetting to see tomb stones for Journey, Water Skooters, Joker, Hercules etc. since it reminded me of rides I miss or rides I never had a chance to experience (Journey). I was kind of surprised to see it a few weeks ago since I had never been to the park during Halloweekends before this season (or is it new this year?)

According to S&S, it's only 360 - 420 pph for a 12 seat tower, 480 - 640 pph for a 16 seat tower http://www.s-spower.com/download/space.pdf -
I believe it launches you like a Space Shot and then holds you at the top like a Turbo Drop and then drops you like a Turbo Drop.

So Shapiro gets a 30% raise...
YoshiFan replied to Crazy4Coasters!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I do not think he deserves it. Every time someome complains about the ridiculous prices at Six Flags ($15 parking, $3.50 sodas, $6.50 slice of pizza etc.) people say that the company is in such debt that they need to raise prices to get out of debt. Get the company out of debt first or reduce the debt, then worry about pay raises for the people in charge at SF. -
I have only ridden the L&T coaster twice and while I think it's a fun ride for some reason I don't find it as great as everyone else does. I don't know if it's because I rode the City Jet before I started going on bigger coasters so the City Jet was somewhat of a thrill to me and the L&T isn't that thrilling after going on major coasters but I feel like I enjoyed the City Jet a lot more.
-
If you think replacing a Schwarkopz for a Boomerang as bad, Gillian's in Ocean City got rid of their City Jet in 2004, got a Wacky Worm in 2005 and an L&T coaster in 2006 and now the Wacky Worm sit's in the City Jet's old spot.

Hershey Park - the Virgin trip
YoshiFan replied to havenli's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Friday night will probably be less crowded but I don't think it will be crowded either day. Hersheypark in The Dark generally doesn't get crowds because there are no Halloween events in the park (hanuted houses, walk throughs etc.) except for trick or treating for kids 12 and under. -

Nice pictures. Maybe the rules were different for the Dragon Wagon's because they were owned by different operators, if the fair had more than 1 ride company there. -
Great pictures. I didn't realize that someone couldn't use electricity or brush your teeth on Yom Kippur even if they were very religious (I just thought it was no driving and not eating all day).
