  1. I didn't win anything on my ten tickets. Let's try this again... You'd think someone like me would be planning my amusement park first and foremost, but instead I've spent hours looking at mansions and massive estates and nice houses on the water....'Course, with even a smaller significantly sized win, I'd save a sh1t-ton for traveling, and start my adventures ASAP.
  2. Aw, man. Cute little place, and one I wouldn't have minded visiting again. The classic dark ride was neat, and the Rock-O-Plane was a plus. I wish I'd ridden Zumur...
  3. I have not visited either. That said, Rochester so I can visit Seabreeze! Napkins or paper towels?
  4. Of course! If you're not spinning, you're not winning, I says! Have you decorated for fall?
  5. Um, Cedar Point, anyone? (Rhetorical question.) So yeah, that's my answer, thanks to Steel Vengeance and Maverick. I'll do the nerdy ranking thing someday.
  6. Unlike a lot of folks, I was pretty optimistic about the reopening (if not necessarily the continued survival of the park). This news still comes as a relief. Negative reviews aside, I would've rather visited this place as the amusement park it was, but business-wise it sounds like this new iteration will be an improvement.
  7. Great find! Cool that you make the trek there, and I'm glad it all worked out. The Huss Flipper is one of my all-time favorite flat rides.
  8. My heart sank when I saw the post title. I hoped for a second that it was actually old news, at least, but no. So devastating for all involved. She was completely innocent and only a child/barely an adult.
  9. Only quality coasters this time around, as it happens. Feels like more than four this year from the combination of that and the fact that I caught up on several other recent rides. 2018 Adrenaline Peak Twisted Cyclone Twisted Timbers Steel Vengeance
  10. I highly approve of indoor Scramblers. Great to see one making a comeback.
  11. Great report--it was like being there without actually being there. You managed to bring a bit of the magic back since I was starting to feel a bit blase about the park despite my last visits being perfectly fine. I agree with you on most of the rides and I'm always glad to see another Medusa fan. That back row is fantastic.
  12. Won't miss it, but I'm glad I've ridden a couple of these (and, who knows, maybe one or three in the future someday). I agree that it's not the only coaster there I wouldn't mind losing. I enjoyed Greats Nor'Easter and White on my visits, but Morey's is just as much about the atmosphere, flat rides and dark attractions for me! My first thought was that they might be more likely to put a flat ride in that space, but it sounds like they're keen on paying tribute to it with a coaster.
  13. Speaking of Power Surge rides, gotta be random here for a second: anyone know why one would be operated with exactly half the seats (one pair of seats per arm) closed? Witnessed that once and found it quite curious.
  14. Well, no cure, sadly, but sometimes the only thing I can eat is plain sliced bread. It's the best thing since drinking and not getting a hangover! Have you ever used a laundromat?
  15. Yes, 20-40 pounds based on the last time I checked, although it'll probably be more after this pizza....Can't worry about it too much though since it's clear I have no intention of ceasing to shovel sugar and other carbs into my mouth with gratuitous abandon. Do you still watch movies on DVD?
  16. Damn. I'm also not an Exterminator fan, so I wouldn't say you missed anything in not liking it. Kennywood is a park I like, but wish I could love; I echo the complaints of other folks.
  17. Intriguing. I keep hearing about Meow Wolf, and this partnership is surprising to me, but sounds promising. I'm probably more like to visit an, um, actual Meow Wolf (?) than to visit Elitch Gardens again, though.
  18. Some updates (the ones that still stand aren't exciting enough to merit a repost or link back): Georgia: Twisted Cyclone Illinois: Goliath (I'm actually somewhat down on Goliath, but my old favorite Viper hasn't aged well) Kentucky: Storm Chaser North Carolina: Fury 325 (however, I am not a huge fan) Ohio: Steel Vengeance Oregon: Adrenaline Peak Virginia: Twisted Timbers
  19. For sure--Sidewinder is a treat. And it's true that Twister is...not good, but I get why you would've appreciated riding it--I rode it a few times myself, and it is kind of a smaller, slightly less bad Mean Streak. There're also some tantalizing historical photos in its queue. I'm really glad you enjoyed Lakeside. Extremely negative reviews of the park are, sadly, not hard to come by, but it's definitely my kind of place and I hope it hangs around. I was not shy about reporting on its run-down condition as it's one of the more striking examples I've encountered, but the thoroughly old-school vibe counts for a lot in my book.
  20. Shhh...don't spread this around too much, but...this. Aside from a token ride in the back here and there, you'll find me aggressively staking my claim to the front row. Also, science museums rock!
  21. Hey, did we know Sesame Place has "Abby's Unlimited Magic Queue"? I mean, maybe that's a no-brainer for a SeaWorld park, but I was still surprised. I wonder if Oscar's Wacky Taxi will be added eventually.
  22. My top 10 wood hasn't shifted this year, so to keep things simple I'll just post my top 10 steel. 01. Steel Vengeance 02. X2 03. Twisted Timbers 04. Twisted Colossus 05. Storm Chaser 06. Maverick 07. Twisted Cyclone 08. Iron Rattler 09. Kawasemi 10. New Texas Giant
  23. I liked Elitch Gardens more than I would've expected, but I realize many enthusiasts would find it forgettable, especially with Sidewinder down. The flat rides aren't half bad, and the (generic Six Flags-style) theming is sparse but surprisingly decent where it exists. As mentioned, they have a skip-the-line program called Rapid Ride; when I visited, it was a basic lanyard system. Lakeside is a must-visit if you enjoy the charm of traditional amusement parks, but it's one of the more run-down places I've visited, and the ride collection for such a storied park is a bit disappointing in terms of thrills and uniqueness--it's no match for a Knoebels, Kennywood, Canobie, or Rye Playland. Yes, ride Cyclone in the front (there's first-come, first-served seating, so you may have to let a trainload ahead of you to snag it). The OP mentioned taking a taxi, but just to put it out there, I did use public transit once to get to Lakeside. I, too, had no problems taking extensive photos at Lakeside. Except on my second visit, when my camera died right as I entered the park... A final note of speculation: I read one time a rumor that years ago somebody (wasn't me!) totally tore into the park online somewhere and posted very unflattering photos of the park's condition, leading to the unusual strictness on photography. To be clear, I don't have the source and have only heard of this third-hand.
