24 Days of Theme Park Review Videos!
Anac0nda replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The beginning of the video made me realize the good things about Scandinavia: I've never queued more than 1h to a ride (that 1h was for Balder). That Maverick line is just RIDICULOUSLY long! How long is the queue time from the start of the queue line, about 4h? PLUS all the people outside the queue. Just wow.. You know, in my home park (that is Linnanmäki), the longest queue is about 20min for Salama. -
Are you a Screamer, Laugher or WHOOPer?
Anac0nda replied to Rocket Rodder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm a hands down laugher. After a good ride (i.e. Insane, Intamin freefall tower) I end up laughing so hard! Sometimes I also scream a bit, but the ride has to be a good one to do that. There really isn't that many rides her in Finland that get any sound out of me... -

As cool as it is to work at Linnanmäki, I was still sad to work that day. If only I had been on Pikajuna (the powered coaster) I would've liked it 'cause then I'd have met all you guys. But it had to be the miniature dodgems... (just below Tulireki) But it was kinda funny to hear a Tulireki-car filled with TPMembers to say "Ouch!" excactly at the same time at the bottom of it's first drop. BTW Linnunrata stands for The Milky Way in finnish. -

I'm glad you guys liked Särkänniemi! Too bad it was raining, though... I'm surprised they were running Jet Star, as it closes even on the tiniest rain. And you could also enjoy the last sesason of Korkkiruuvi. I'm sad it has to leave -

Most Overrated coaster?
Anac0nda replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Salama (Linnanmäki) is a Söhne spinner, and when it opened in 2008 I was so excited to finally get to ride my first (and so far only) spinner! I was disappointed 'cause I expected it to be a thrilling ride. Well, those who have ridden it can confirm my statement that it's a family coaster. Anyhow, after a few rides I learned to respect it as it is and lower my expectations, and now I can ride it with a smile. -
Starting up the next season
Anac0nda replied to TYTL's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My season won't start before March. Around then a small travelling fair will visit my home town, with only a couple of rides. But it's better than nothing! Somewhere around the end of April Linnanmäki will open, and I'm definitely going to be there in the opening day! Most probably I will also start working there soon after the opening, as I finish my studies before May. -
The "Preview" Thread
Anac0nda replied to DBru's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Here's something from my park: Falcon Cliffs This is the last teaser before I'll start a topic. It's the splashdown of a yet-to-be-named log flume. The flume itself travels on the very same hill as the Timber Express, but on another side of it. Insert splash/skloosh. -
The "Preview" Thread
Anac0nda replied to DBru's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Falcon Cliffs is a park I have worked on for a long time. Although it's small, I try to make everything as realistic as possible (even up to rides having control booths), and thus the progress is kinda slow. Teaser #2 in the distance is the signature ride of the park: Timber Express (based on Lisebergbanan) Teaser #1 paths still a bit unfinished -
TPR Goes to IAAPA 2009 - Photos & Videos from the show!
Anac0nda replied to SharkTums's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
This thread is awesome! Thank you so much for posting this! I hope some day I will be able to go to IAAPA. That Rocket Ride looks so insane! Just WHAT were the designers (let alone the buyers) thinking?!? -
NEWS: Moto Coaster for Särkänniemi in 2010
Anac0nda replied to Tömmioh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, at least it's launched, although a family coaster. I'm sad about the loss of Korkkiruuvi, I thought it was a nice ride Looking forward for the renderings about the surroundings and the exact location. -

Here's the überly cool sign for Koskiseikkailu - Särkänniemi [/sarcasm]. I'll try to find a pic of the Metkula (funhouse) somewhere in my older computer. -
Insufficient restraints on coasters
Anac0nda replied to mattnz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Has anyone ridden a Zamperla Volare? To those never ridden one, there's absolutely nothing to keep you secured. You literally have to hold on for your life. Well, ok, maybe not for your life, but to have at least a bit more comfortable ride. Here's a pic showing the lack of restraints: clicky. The car is basically like a ladder, which is then raised to a horizontal position. -
Universal Studios Singapore Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to Adriel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd definitely say that's a launched lift hill! And the trains look good too. I like the open air -feeling especially on the first car. I bet the queue to the first row will be a long one... I'm not surprised that the inverted trains are like those on Kvasten. I like them. They feel so deep. I'm so waiting for POVs and offride-videos! -
The end of a thrilling decade.

New challengers in the industries: Maurer Söhne - the world's highest inversion Skyloop - X-Car coaster - spinning coaster and Gerstlauer - Eurofighter - spinning coaster And the upcoming of launched coasters. -
Korkkiruuvi - Särkänniemi dismantled!
Anac0nda replied to Anac0nda's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A member of the finnish coaster forum has taken a few shots of the trackwork of (now former) Korkkiruuvi. Just scroll down the page below. You can see the track has become a bit rusty... Clicky -
So has another legendary Vekoma Whirlwind come to it's end. In the pic you can see it's missing a few parts of the track in the lower left corner, and there's some track lying around in the car park in the lower right corner. Most probably it will be sold to somewhere else, as Vekoma had a pic of Korkkiruuvi in their previous website selling used coasters. We have started to speculate about Korkkiruuvi's follower in the finnish forum, as the park owner has released that there will be a new coaster with a height restriction of 120cm of 4 feet, which is the same as Korkkiruuvi had. The thing about the coming track is that there's not that much space. Even if the flatride Hurricane is to be moved somewhere else, there aren't that many possibilities for a coaster, as can be seen from this pic: So far (we have known this for only a couple of days) we have thought about a Zamperla MotoCoaster and a Vekoma Stingray.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
Anac0nda replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is shocking: I think Zamperla Volare has a good ending. I'm not talking about those horrible brakes, but the last section which has no inversion. It's fun to just fly around without any fear of pain, if you know what I mean. Also the ZacSpin endings are great! I don't think I've ever ridden a coaster with a bad ending. -
Best And Worst Things Ever
Anac0nda replied to Manny In England's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Both are from this summer, working in Linnanmäki. Best: Working a day as a "back-up dad". Basically, I rode rides with kids whose moms or dads didnt dare to ride the rides, but still needed a parent to ride with them. I was that guy. Basically, I rode rides 11 hours and got paid for it! Worst: Working a day in Miniature Carousel. It's allowed only for kids under 140cm or 4,5 feet, parents aren't allowed to ride. As you can guess, many kids started to cry after being separated from their parents when the ride started. But what really got on my nerves was the stupid parents who jumped over the fences and came through the entrance and exit gates leaving them open, which resulted as kids running to the ride area without any control. Meanwhile the ride still operated! This lasted for 11 hours... -
Calling All Coaster Enthusiasts!
Anac0nda replied to bigjohnson51's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Name: Antti Vaisanen Age: 18 What is your roller coaster count? 52 What is your home park? Linnanmäki, Helsinki What is the nearest big city? Helsinki What is your occupation? Upper-secondary school student About how many times a year do you visit a park (including your home park)? 10-20 About how many times a year do you travel to a park that is not your home park? 3 When you travel do you go primarily to amusement parks or do you also try and hit other sites? My trips so far have all included at least one amusement park, as will my future trips. But I visit other places too. What is the farthest you’ve traveled to go to an amusement park? 2 600 km, or 1 600 miles. All the way through Europe from Finland to Spain. Does roller coaster time get in the way of family time? (Do you choose to miss your children’s or family’s sporting events, holidays, birthdays, etc…) I never miss special occasions, but I do use a lot of my free-time everyday for coasters. Do you have any other major hobbies? Acting at a local youth theatre. Do you get feelings of sadness in the offseason? Do you even have an offseason? Do you travel during the offseason? Sometimes, because here in the North the offseason is particularly long (up to 7 months!). I don't travel during offseason. Do you consider yourself friends with someone you met who works at an amusement park? (Or reverse it, if you work or worked and an amusement park have you made friends with enthusiasts?) No. Would it bother you to go to an amusement park by yourself? If it were a whole day, it would bother. But I don't mind just a few hours. Have you gone to an amusement park by yourself? If so have you ever ran into another enthusiast and tagged along with them? Sometimes I have stayed in the park after my working hours for a few rides. But I have never met other enthusiasts. Do you find it easy to make friends with other enthusiasts? Yes. I think a common hobby is a good conversation starter. How do you get your coaster news? Via forums in Internet. How many different forum sites do you regularly post on? 3 If there was a poll that asked a large pool of enthusiasts what their favorite roller coaster is, what do you think would be the top 3 responses be for wood? And for steel? Wood: El Toro, Balder, T-Express Steel: Insane, Piraten (or another Mega-Lite), Blue Fire Same scenario but for amusement parks, what would be the top 3? SFOG, Cedar Point, some Universal park Have you ever “stole a kid” to get a credit on a kiddie coaster? No. Do you cut other categories out of your budget to make trips to parks? (Entertainment, fast food, holidays, tobacco or alcohol, etc…) I don't have to do that. Before you visit a new park do you research the park finding the best way to navigate the park, get the best deals, or what days to go? I research the rides, the location and the best way to get there. Do you feel the roller coaster enthusiast community is a warm and accepting community, or a negative and discouraging community? I find the community very accepting and positively crazy. Do you like to talk about your hobby with people who are not roller coaster enthusiasts? Yes I do. And when I do that I always get weird looks -

Tele2 Insane, Intamin ZacSpin for Gröna Lund
Anac0nda replied to Loefet's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Am I seeing correctly, that the Starflyer would be taller than FrittFall?!?! Maybe it's just the angle. If not... it's even more insane than Insane! Anyway, the inverted looks great! It's good to have some of the B&M goodness here in the North also.
