Rough coasters
timetrial3141592 replied to mark.w's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't mind a bit of roughness. Hell, I loved Gwazi with its PTC trains (Granted, this was its second year.) I enjoyed Mean Streak. I liked Ninja at SFStL. I even found SFNE's Cyclone (pre-topper-track) fun. Until last year, my worst ride experience was either The Boss or Psyclone. (Honestly, Boss isn't that bad until the helix, anyway...) Then along came Hades360... You know a ride is bad when TPR gets an hour of ERT on it and 15 minutes in, nobody wants to ride the thing. I came off that ride feeling like there was something seriously wrong with me, like a cracked rib or two. That place should RMC all four of its coasters. (And yet, I suspect somehow that they'll STILL be unbearably rough...) -
At the park now. Bizarro is running well; I'd give it an 8/10 today. Dispatches are doing well. Haven't looked around Cyclone today, but when I asked a Bizarro ride-open about the Cyclone makeover, he said something like "Everyone knows about that." Not sure what that means. Take it with a grain of salt.

States that ban T-bars

Same. All I can find with some quick searching was this snippet from an article on RideAccidents.com, talking about Superman the Escape and Xcelerator - http://www.rideaccidents.com/2004.html#jun1b I always wondered why this happened, and now I know - photo of Darien Lake's Ride of Steel... Oh, right! The Shin Busters! I remember those. They made SROS @ SFNE almost unrideable. -
I actually agree with Robb's assessment. B&Ms built in the last ten years have been designed to be FUN, not balls-to-the-wall insane. I think this is actually a good thing. If you want intensity, there are plenty of quality manufacturers to go to: Intamin, Mack, and RMC come to mind. I think there is a viable market for looping coasters that are more family-friendly. Just my .02

Oh, I'm not sure about that. Canobie might edge that one out. I love Canobie but I've just never figured out the purpose of that tiny little skyride. Nice, if brief, view of the lake, I guess... I completely agree. It doesn't even have a second station; it just goes out a bit and comes back. I have no idea what it's for.

... you actually buy that RCT4 Mobile game just to see if it's any good. -
Ride You Felt Was Unsafe?
timetrial3141592 replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, there was the time I rode Cyclops on the TPR Midwest trip. I sat down in the right side of the last car (can't remember if it was front row or back of car 5) and somehow, when the ride was over, I was seated in the left side of the same row. About that... -
Wow. I was extra stupid back then.

I decided this year to go on Opening Day. Bizarro was running a bit sluggish; I found a group of ACErs in front of Pandemonium who were discussing the possibility of a RMC Cyclone; and (worryingly) I found a loose metal floorboard on Bizarro. The thing was coming up and hitting the restraints on every hill. The ride-op wouldn't listen to my repeated pleas to have someone take a look at it until it came completely loose (I was right next to it, and I ended up holding it down on the more intense hills). I picked it up, walked up to the ride supervisor with it under my arm, handed it to her, said, "I believe this belongs to you", and explained where it had come from. Unfortunately, I left soon after, so I did not get to see what, if anything, they did about it. I did not have a camera on me at the time (because I don't usually take photos), so I don't have any pictures of the floorboard. It did not appear to be structurally integral to the train; it covered what appeared to be a thicker metal plate below it. It was steel, with rhombus-shaped protrusions of the type usually seen on steel plate. Anyone know about the design of the Bizarro trains enough to explain what the heck was going on there?

NERF, Minecraft, and roller coasters.

Not to mention being the topic where you bullied me into leaving TPR for about two years. I would prefer that this topic not be brought up, especially as it involved several moderators ganging up on me. No, I haven't forgotten. Somewhat hard to forget being ostracized from a community for one's interests, especially when there are certain segments of the populace whose views are far more deserving of ridicule than mine.

Favorite roller coaster?

You want intense? I'm going for the ride with a kill/death ratio. Mindbender @ West Edmonton Mall. -

Oh SNAP! In other news, glad to hear that work on SW7 is coming along nicely. Might need to give this one a visit in 2014 (2013 is already booked up.) -
Strangest layouts
timetrial3141592 replied to Her0ofLime's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What about Bizarro @ SFNE? It definitely breaks the mold of "big hills out, big helix turnaround, bunny hops back" that typify the hypercoaster. Other unusual layouts: Cop Car Chase, Fantasia Special, Rip Ride Rockit, and Phantom's Revenge. -
Favorite Dark Ride

Mine of Lost Souls at Canobie Lake Park. Despite the rather random ending, it is an excellent dark ride and Canobie takes very good care of it. -

22/30 with some dumb guesses.
