Themeparkreview.com is almost worth $100k!!!
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to laqueefa's topic in Random, Random, Random
Type in www.sixflags.com and look at the historical line graph that shows the traffic. See how is spikes up for one day in December? That must have been the reduced Season Pass day. -
Shane's Amusement Attic
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This thread is really cool-I actually have been sitting here reading it for a half hour! I was confused at first on how "unbanked turns" caused the train to swing. The vid. cleared that up. Bat seems so different than all the other Arrow suspenders. In a way, it DID start the "fourth phase" of roller coasters or whatever. There's so many "below the track" coasters today, Arrow suspended and others. So, does anyone actually have a "review" of the ride? I know it operated sparingly a long time ago, but can anyone remember what the ride actually felt like?? Again, very cool info. -

Best Theme Park Food
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to ChrisZer0's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cesari's at Knoebels is as advertised. I thank all the ACERS for leading me there. I really try to avoid park food, but Knoebels had some cheap stuff. I got a crab cake and chips in a sit-down restaurant for $3:50 I believe! As for worst, I'd go with fries from Theater Snacks at Kings Dominion, or some freshly grilled Mexican chicken at SFA. Not bad, but overpriced, and mediocre. -
Geauga Lake in the 80's-90's
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to montezooma's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great stuff! I always thought "Raging Wolf Bobs" was a weird name. Now I know why it was called that. I guess it was painted white some time later. This park did have lots of history. Too bad I will never experience it. -
Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Air part 2 was supposed to have a pretzel loop, so you would at least get something Europe has never seen. I was actually excited about a new custom B&M Flyer. There's no way it would have been as lame as Air, with less height restrictions compared to Alton, and the fact that it would have been B&M's 4th flyer model, not the first. -
Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know, Eurofighter seems like a step back from the other coasters they have added this decade. I guess they do need something compact, and I've seen how busy the park gets. But when the park has installed plenty of B&M/Intamins, I was expecting them to really get something nice this time. Someone mentioned Thorpe may be getting a Eurofighter a couple months ago on another site, and I honestly thought it was a joke! -
Affording TPR Group Trips
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to RaptorBoyASU's topic in Random, Random, Random
It seems like most college and high school age people get a lot of the money from their parents (I said most, not all!). That would never happen to me, because my parents don't agree with the idea in the first place. My advice would be to live with your parents over summer/winter break, and work in your hometown. That's what I've been doing, and I've been able to save a lot of money. Wait-staff jobs can be money in the bank, and some retail jobs aren't bad. -
Cedar Point may be overrated, but that program sounds cool. How many other parks do stuff like that? I have heard the tales of how many hours opps work per week so the above statement of "up to 80" doesn't surprise me a bit. I totally believe it, because I have heard it from so many people. I hate how some ride opps don't take their jobs seriously, however. I guess most teenagers do the same thing if they can get away with it, and why not? All I know is if I ever got the chance to learn more about how coasters opperate, I would soak up every minute of it. And if someone asked me, "Is it to scarry for my kid?" I'd hit them with a nice ride review and tell them where it ranked in my top 10

I really want to go to the PPP, but just can't see myself waiting to ride Phoenix for that long. -
1. Macaroni 2. Olive Garden 3. Carraba's Can't go wrong though, as long as your not on the Atkins Diet. Although, I only have ONE Carraba's credit, and it's the brand new one in my hometown. They don't quite have their act together yet!

Food certainly looks like one of the best parts of TPR trips. *As long as its not in the US, as I'm sure the group gets dragged to Carraba's a lot! Olive Garden owns it. Still, I love Japanese food in the US, so I'm sure I would love the real stuff.

2008 Park Trip Plans
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to carolinacaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Season Pass Six Flags America Spring Weekend Trip Six Flags Great Adventure Deno's Wonderwheel Park Astroland Summer Week-long Trip Lake Compounce Six Flags New England Great Escape Canobie Lake Funtown Splashtown U.S.A. Palace Playland Already really stoked about 2008. I'm praying this offseason goes by quickly like last winter did. I'm still a little bitter that I won't be able to do a TPR trip next year, but I think they'll still be happening in 2009, so one more year to wait is fine with me. -

As said above, this looks like a fantastic coaster. Can't wait to get some opinions from TPR members about it, and maybe get out to Korea to ride it myself one day. Does anyone know what those green net things are and why they are necessary? -

Very nice PTR. I really like the state of PA. Got up there 3 times this year and went to 4 different amusement parks. It's hard to believe I avoided the state for the last five years and I only live one state south of it! Trust me, I will not avoid it for that long again. I'm pretty sure I'll be transferring schools next year from a college in the southern-most part of Maryland to a university about 15 minutes from the PA border! -
Mitch's Coaster Poll
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to ScubaSteve442's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is my first year voting. Sure hope the coasterfanatics link worked. My list is still not too impressive, having only ridden 20 wooden coasters. Still, that's double what I had last year! 1. Phoenix 2. My Fav. Steel 3. Wild One 4. Comet (Hersheypark) Can't wait for next year and NJ, NY, and New England's woodens to get added to that list! -
Yeah, but I'm going to have to give them the edge over Six Flags as far as 2008 installs goes. They're installing a new B&M (Behemoth), while Six Flags is installing junk apart from the GCII woodie. At least a lot of the new-for-2008 can be hit on one fairly easy trip. Hershey > Knoebels > Canada's Wonderland > Waldameer CF may be adding more stuff, but look what they are taking away. A 100-year-old park and as far as I know, they are trying to destroy all of the Paramount themeing remaining at the 5 former Paramount Parks. Oh yea, and I could buy a Cedar Fair pass for 50 dollars less (and did but it) at this time last year. Behemoth is nice, but I just don't like hardly anything CF is doing for 2008.

A year ago I would have been going absolutely crazy right now. I used to be a big KD fanboy and would have welcomed the first good coaster for 10 years with open arms. However, this year, I have been to 6 parks and have enjoyed all of them more than KD. I just don't get excited for anything happening there anymore. Anyway, I will have a new local park next year-SFA with two world class rides and no queues-and Dominator ain't changin' that.

TPR Nominated in Poll
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to Sticky Nicky's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Interesting poll. I voted in the ones I knew/cared about, and viewed the results for all others. No surprise with RCDB's runaway with best knowledge based content. But Lifthill.net should OWN the photo category. -
Largest Re-located Coaster??
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I guess there are plenty of big Schwarzkopf's that are relocations. Bullet and Magnum Force formerly at Flamingo Land have made the rounds. Also, Zonga, formerly of SFDK. -

I've only been on a few and number one is easily Big Bad Wolf. I'd really like to try Eagle Fortress, it looks awesome. So much attention to detail. -
Tripsdrill Discussion Thread
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've really liked everything I've seen from Tripsdrill since seeing pic.s from Mini-Europe this year. This coaster looks like a great addition for the little German park. I was hoping they got the rumored GCI, but this should be even better as I think GCI is overrated. -
Also, a big corporation will not be worried about ONE ride as much as a small, solo park, with only a few rides. If SCBB didn't take good care of the Dipper, they wouldn't be in business. If Six Flags blows up all their wooden coasters, they may not even take much of a hit.

Six Flags America Accident
Wood Dragon 1988 replied to piggy4891's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay, I'm going to take a different angle than the rest of the lemmings in this thread. Honestly, if I got stuck on the lift of a Vekoma ride at Six Flags America, I may be a little scared too. And I don't think MANY of you can deny that you would as well. I have been stuck a couple times before, never more than 20 minutes though. And please, if you want to blame someone, blame the darn local news, showing about 4 pics of the ride inverting and zero pics of the ride stuck on the lift hill. It's not fair to call out the couple, who were PAYING customers and I'm sure didn't want 1:30 of their day being spent stuck on a ride. Sure, they overreacted, but remember that it was up to the news to edit their interview, and it was the news that showed the ride inverting 4 times. You can't expect every customer to realize that "these things happen all the time." They don't eat, sleep, and breath thrill rides like we do.
