Kings Island is a fine example of what a corporate park can be. They do so many little things such as upkeeping iconic attractions like Beast, Racer, and Carrousel, while adding or restoring minor touches most corporate parks wouldn't care to do. Kings Island really cashes in on nostalgia, even with such minor details as hidden easter eggs in Mystic Timbers' shed, the SOB eternal flame in Banshee's queue, and going as far as repainting and renaming Flight Deck to The Bat. Not only that, but the park sells these things from a marketing and PR standpoint so well. Cedar Point is removing old attractions and replacing them with mediocre food venues, while Kings Island finds huge success just by adding what would typically be an outdated attraction like the Antique Cars. Despite the mega-park Magic Mountain, I still believe Six Flags Fiesta Texas is a strong contender for best park in the Six Flags chain. Likewise, as far as Kings Island goes with Cedar Point in Cedar Fair's line-up, I think Kings Island is the best single day park in the chain, if not one of the best in North America. I can't say enough good things about Kings Island. I'm glad I'm within six hours of it.9 points

This place is so weird. Imagine being able to afford two custom steel looping coasters but not a website.4 points

Prices for the ferris wheel have been announced and they're actually not too insane. The wheel will open on April 13th and will offer incredible views of the Jersey Turnpike and the roof of the mall.3 points

I think it was locked and the light indicated that. But locked isn't enough. Compare the position for a 6ft 280lb rider vs a 5ft 95lb rider. That's on the operators to check. The ride doesn't know how thick/thin the rider is, only that the harness is locked. That said, should the harness have indicated a lock in that position? I'm having trouble picturing a rider that would be safely secured with it in that position. So it shouldn't have indicated a lock in that position and the operators shouldn't have let it go either.2 points

I find it ironic that a morbidly obese person is complaining about circumstances being deadly, as if she hasn't looked at the deadly health consequences of her actions. The newest movement is referring to thin/fit/healthy people as entitled or privileged. #1 leading cause of death in America: Heart Disease. Talk about "deadly." Although I'm sure it's probably "someone else's fault."2 points

It's attitudes like this that may have prevented the park employee from limiting the victim's access. I know I would have no problem but I'm not 15 and being barraged with pop culture peer pressure. "Fatphobic"2 points

^The Dungeon will be located up by Sky Coaster in a building they used a few years back for a haunted house during Halloween. The Fire Station used to be Nightmare and it will now have the Kids Bumper car inside.1 point

CNN reporting the young man was denied riding on two other rides at the park https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/29/us/florida-park-teen-death-accident-report/index.html such a shame here.. ..a tragedy all around1 point

We knew the angle difference, but good to know those extra two feet help it keep its record LOL. The big question: Does this count as a new credit? Edit: On another note, they've announced the Early Entry ride lineup for this year. April 16 - May 27 Banshee Delirium Drop Tower Boo Blasters Great Pumpkin Coaster May 28 - July 31 Orion Racer Dodgem School Woodstock Express Woodstock Whirlybirds August 1 - October 30 Diamondback Mystic Timbers Flying Ace Aerial Chase Snoopy's Space Buggies Woodstock Gliders (Flyers!) Soak City (May 28 - September 5) Mondo Monsoon (funnel slide) Pipeline Paradise (surfing simulator) Splash Landing Tidal Wave Bay1 point

Great review! This has me excited for our visit this Friday/Saturday (SFFT on Sunday). We fly in Friday morning and plan to go to the park in the evening after some other stops, but Saturday will be there all day. Look forward to trying out some of these foods, they look great!1 point

If the ride couldn't be designed to keep him safe, it should have been designed to keep him OFF. This is such a basic safety concept. Unfortunately we've seen this issue time and time again. Reputable manufacturers have put in the effort to fix mistakes and keep people safe. You can't just put up a sign with a max weight limit and expect employees to stay on top of it. Automated systems need to do the work. Safety is the first priority when it comes to designing rides, it can NOT be an afterthought. Ride engineers need to be extremely careful if they don't want a death on their hands. It doesn't sound like they put in the work to make these towers fool proof. I'm not morbidly obese, I just have empathy.1 point

You could have a very spirited discussion on restraint design and body types, but this isn’t the place for it. My assumption on what happened is that the harness went down far enough to flag the sensor it was locked when it never actually was. You can squish body mass down when the ride is on the ground, not so much when tilted in the air and dropping…1 point

I do not mean to spam this thread. But the park shared this beautiful photo of the status of The Racer's new (old) paint scheme. This is not a photo from 1972--this is a photo from today! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbs6P-tJzCy/1 point

At the very least, having a buckle between the harness and the seat would have made it more clear that he wasn't going to fit properly because the buckle would never have latched. I had to walk off Batman: The Ride in STL because the OTSR wouldn't come down far enough over my large bosom to buckle to the seat; they wouldn't have turned me away at this drop ride.1 point

It's the corn maze. You can see other Fright Fest items in place around the park. Google's had these images up for at least a few weeks.1 point

for the record, I am not on the 'Corp Hates Us' bus but I think we can all agree that SFStL seems like an afterthought at times.1 point

I'm just going to chime in here and say Saint Louis is a crime ridden shithole. Bert, I'm sorry. I've been here for 37 years. It may be fun to visit, but it's not nice to stay. We may have the city museum, a nice zoo, and a lot of other fun 'attractions,' but no one is rushing to this area to raise a family. This area has been depressed for years. I personally like a lot of things about our park, but it also needs a lot of work. You come from one of the best parks in the chain. SFFT has gotten a considerable amount of attention in the last decade. SFFTL got a used boomerang. In the meantime, they took away Splash Boats, Antique cars... and half... of our Go-Karts. The carrousel is rightfully being renovated, but even that is currently not operating. Xcaliber was SBNO for two years. American Thunder is arguably the last real exciting attraction the park received. I'm not really complaining about our park. It's fine. Personally, I don't give a shit. But, it's not cool to criticize the rightfully-so jaded long time members of this thread.... Except for the "Corporate hates our park" guy. Criticize away, because he'd hilarious.0 points
