  1. I don't prefer it over the July 2019 version of Cedar Point which was probably the last time the park was running well, but we haven't had that in two years. Every shoulder season and in the last two peak seasons Cedar Point is a world-class theme park being operated like it's Lake Compounce. I went from being mortified at the thought of Six Flags buying Cedar Fair a few years ago to wishing that they had so that park wouldn't be closed today, they wouldn't close ride lines early, they wouldn't close rides for staffing every Spring and Fall and would have a longer operating season. Like... if you think Six Flags would close Top Thrill Dragster on Halloweekends Fridays you're actually on crack. If you think they would close at 8 and not do haunts on Halloweekends Sundays you're also on crack. In contrast, Kings Island is the best-run park in the chain right now except for possibly Knott's. The bar is pretty low, but it's true. That said, everyone's improving opinions of Kings Island isn't just because Cedar Point has fallen off of an operational cliff. I used to believe that Kings Island was one of the most overrated major parks in America. It was like Kings Dominion with worse rides and an uglier main street that needed trees desperately (that's still true, by the way). They had a lot of "good" rides but no "great" rides until it got dark out. Since my first visit though, they've really beefed up their offerings. I think Diamondback is one of the better B&M hypers, Banshee is a blast, Mystic Timbers is also a blast (and the shed is fun with the right expectations) and I really do feel like Orion finally gave them a real headline coaster. Now look... I get the complaints and I like it more than most people. No 91 mph coaster with clamshells and a wave turn is ever going to be boring to me (though I crap on Candymonium a lot so I admit that I don't really know where the line is, but even that ride is fun). I get that it's a budget-giga but I really do like the ride. I also feel like they've just really rounded out the collection in-general over the last decade or so. Plus, additions like the Brewhouse patio, Antique autos (which look really nice), sprucing up the Bat, the Flight of Fear theming enhancements and similar things have also really improved my opinion of the place. They also have an incredible Fastlane system which is nice. Also, removing Firehawk and Vortex were addition-by-subtraction. They also just clearly give more of a shit than most parks in the chain. When we went last year every effect was working on Backlot stunt coaster. You're not getting that at another Cedar Fair park. I've liked everything they've done lately (except for their crappy Winterfest but I've resigned myself to the fact that Cedar Fair is hopeless with that).

  2. CP, June 2019, is a better park than KI, 2021. I just think KI is a better one-day park, because of the 'bang for the buck' factor. You can ride everything as many times as you want with FL+ and it doesn't take a half hour to walk from one side of the park to the other. Since I'm not a marathoner, I need at least 2 days at CP, including Breakers, to feel like I got my fill of everything, going at our casual pace. There are more personal factors for us as to why it's our favorite one-day park. KI is a 5.5 hour drive and CP is an 8.5 hour drive. We stay at Hyatt's for free. 12am closing weekends (In the past). A Halloween event that is kick ass and not overly crowded to where FL+ delivers an hour wait, during its peak. Other parks within 5'ish hours or less for us are HW (3 hours), IB (4 hours), KK (4 hours), SCD (5'ish hours), WOF (5'ish hours lmfao not worth it), and SFGam (<5 hours Malnati's). Our home park is SFSTL, which shits all over WOF in the rides department, like every other park, but I'm not including it since it's not an over-nighter. KI is our clear winner until SDC builds one more home run and starts selling beer. I hope they see the beer sales at KK and offer a few limited places serving alcohol, with 'no alcohol past this point' restrictions, to keep the park family friendly. I'll agree if I want a 2 day park, CP at it's prime + Breakers is absolutely a better choice. Honorable mention: HP with Hershey Lodge. That's all personal preference and circumstances, but it's my point of view.

  3. Reminds me of an over-the-top pro hockey game intro song from that era. It wasn't good enough to make the radio, but the franchise could buy the copyright for pennies on the dollar and play it in front of crowds consisting dads and college kids four pregame Bud Light beers deep. Synched with highlights of your team "crushing" other teams into the boards it would definitely pass for 'ok.' That guitar toss though... That's a perfect reminder of why we have loose article policies. That definitely wouldn't happen on Steel Vengeance.

  4. To quote @robbalvey "Orion is FAST" Yep! And @jarmorit's totally a tease as the last sideways hill is the best part of the ride imo. but the beauty is if you get FL, you can ride it as many times as you want! And when you do that, you get to appreciate it so much more since it's such a quick ride.

  5. Avengers Campus is a brand new land at Disney California Adventure (DCA) that brings the greatest Marvel super heroes to life! An all-new ride: “Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure,” joins fan favorite: “Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout,” immersing guests in their favorite Marvel stories. There are new shows and character interactions, delicious themed foods and drinks, and tons of fun and unique merchandise offerings. Last week TPR was invited to preview the new land, so check out our report below to join us on the adventure! We’re at DCA for a preview of the brand new Avenger’s Campus! First up, let’s head straight to the new ride - Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure! Here’s the entrance area. WEB (aka The Worldwide Engineering Brigade) is a new organization that sets the stage for this attraction. We’re invited to the WEB Open House where they’re showcasing super-powered technology created by the world’s brightest young inventors. Web fluid is SUPER sticky, VERY strong, and has REALLY long range. Noted! Some web fluid sprayers sit in the queue, with webs sprayed on the building behind. There’s lots of signage throughout the queue that invites guests into the story line. Here, we learn about the ride vehicle: the web slinger superpowered autonomous vehicle. The vehicle allows anyone to sling webs like Spider Man! Here’s the entrance to the WEB Open House. Similar to Haunted Mansion, there are 2 pre-show rooms to help with capacity. You’ll be guided into either the right or left room to experience the pre-show. Here’s the pre-show room, one of the labs at WEB. There’s lots of inventions and fun stuff sitting around. Roar! Billboards with all sorts of science line the walls. We spoke with Casey Ging, the Art Director for the attraction, and he said these billboards were his favorite thing he worked on. You can learn the actual real science of spider bots and web flinging! Peter Parker welcomes us and introduces the web slinger vehicle that we’re here to help test. He also shows off the spider bots they’ve invented, with a neat self-replicating feature. Unfortunately the spider bots get stuck in self-replication mode and keep self-replicating. Again, and again, and again. This might end badly! As the spider bots keep replicating they begin taking over everything. This sounds like a job for Spider Man! But he needs our help! He asks us to head to the web slinger vehicles - together we’ll team up to stop the spider bots and help save Avenger’s Campus! The doors open and we head past these lockers towards the slinger vehicles. Here are the web slingers! Ooooh, ahhhh. Bonus points to Disney for making the vehicles 2-sided, which should double the capacity of the attraction and make wait times shorter (yay!) Once inside, we pull down the lap bar and we’re off! Time to sling some webs! There are several scenes, all bursting with spider bots to shoot! Eat my webs, spider bots! Spider Man swings through the scenes as well, helping us get all the spider bots! Thanks Spider Man! Great work! There are lots of fun scenes from around Avenger’s Campus. If you look just over the quinjet you can see the top of "Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout" in the background. In-between game scenes there are some web covered sets. Spider Man swings down at the end to congratulate us on a job well done! Strike a manly pose! We did it! The scoreboard displays all the stats, including your individual total and the vehicle total. This is the exit hallway as you leave the attraction. The scoreboards display the top scores of the hour and the day, and highlight the most recent additions to the board so you can easily see if you made it to the leaderboard. We got 2nd place for the hour! We’ll have to try again for #1! A few spider bots may have escaped our webs. This one waves bye as you leave the attraction. Thanks for visiting WEB Open House! Next up we’ll check out Pym Test Kitchen, the main restaurant at Avengers Campus. At PYM Test Kitchen, they utilize the revolutionary shrink-and-grow technology of Pym Particles to shrink and grow foods. In the main entrance area you can see pretzels being shrunk and grown before your very eyes! There’s signage on the wall explaining the concepts behind the restaurant. The imagineers played with scale throughout the whole restaurant. These giant ketchup and mustard bottles are from “Bountiful Valley Farm,” a nice nod to the original farm area that occupied this space when DCA first opened. The soda comes from giant cans overhead. Everywhere you look there’s oversized theming. Adjacent to Pym Test Kitchen is Pym Tasting Lab, featuring an oversized beer can, where you can order some delicious adult beverages. Even the bar taps are fully themed! But let’s get to what you’re really here for: the food! The “Not so Little Chicken Sandwich” would qualify as a great “Meat Monday” item. But for those who celebrate “Meatless Monday,” they’ve got you covered as well. The “Impossible Spoonful” is a vegan meatball and pasta dish that’s every bit as filling and delicious as the real thing! The Atomic Fusion Pretzel takes the standard amusement park pretzel to a whole new level. It’s loaded with buffalo chicken, hot sauce, ranch dressing, blue cheese crumbles, celery, and dill-pickled carrots. A cast member I spoke with said the “PB3 Superb Sandwich” was their personal favorite item. It’s a warm PB&J with banana and candied bacon on Pym Particle bread, served with a micro banana smoothie and crispy potato bites. For those who want a more traditionally flavored pretzel, the “Quantum Pretzel” weighs in at 453.8 grams and comes with a cheese-beer sauce for dipping. Wash it all down with some Pingo Doce! Or if you want to avoid the calories, you can even get Pingo Doce Zero Sugar! I tried both variations, and both were superb! The “Pint-Sized Pints Mini Beer Flight” from Pym Tasting Lab features four mini beer steins served on an enlarged ruler that can be kept as a souvenir. There are also several beer cocktails served at Pym Tasting Lab that looked delicious, and the beer cocktails are poured using a reverse draft system that fills the glasses up from the bottom! How cool! The Shawarma Palace cart is another great food option that offers hand-held savory wraps. From Disney: “Fans may recall that after the Battle of New York, the exhausted Avengers took Tony Stark up on his offer to try the food at the “shawarma joint” about two blocks from the battle zone. There at Shawarma Palace, the Avengers discovered their new favorite food. The Avengers loved the food so much that they invited the Shawarma Palace crew to open a food cart at Avengers Campus.” Shawarma Palace offers “New York’s Tastiest,” filled with chicken shawarma and garlic spread, and served with coconut yogurt-tahini sauce and pickled vegetables. The “Impossible Victory Falafel” is a plant-based falafel and cauliflower wrap with garlic spread and hummus, also served with coconut yoghurt-tahini sauce and pickled vegetables. I tried this one and it was great! The yoghurt-tahini sauce is fantastic, and it can be drizzled on the wrap or eaten as a side! Defeat your thirst with “Iron Man’s Infinity Gauntlet!” This awesome souvenir can be purchased at Shawarma Palace and comes with your favorite Coca-Cola beverage! After all the food, you may or may not have room for dessert. But if you do have room, you’re in luck, because there are several great desserts available at Avengers Campus. This is the “Choco Smash” candy bar from Pym Test Kitchen. It’s a giant candy bar consisting of peanuts, nougat, caramel, and chocolate brownie covered in dark chocolate. It’s huge, and could easily be shared by several people. The “Cosmic Cream Orb” is a crispy cream puff with whipped raspberry cheesecake mousse - available at Terran Treats, a food cart near Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout! Also at Terran Treats is the “Sweet Spiral Ration.” This is a spiral churro with unique colors and flavors that will change seasonally. Now that we’re stuffed, let’s check out the merchandise! The “Web Tech Power Band” with various attachments is the star of the show because it changes your abilities on the Web Slingers attraction. It’s so cool that you can buy a toy that actually changes how you’re able to experience a ride! You get different powers depending on which attachment you purchase. Additionally, the attachments have fun playability features in the real world - they either sling string webs or float balls in mid-air. I love that these are fun in both the real world and the virtual world of the ride! This is WEB Suppliers, the main merchandise location for Avengers Campus. Let’s check out the inside! This is the best place to get Spider Bots and other WEB merchandise! The walls are themed with science drawings just like the ride! There are also lots of fun items sitting around the store. Here’s a potato gun that’s a reference to Harley’s invention in Iron Man 3! Snacks for Tippy Toe, the squirrel companion of Doreen Green. They had a table set up outside to show off more of the awesome merchandise. The spider bots come in different variants, and if your friends or family get one too you can battle with each other! There are lights on the controllers that indicate how many lives you have left. This attraction vehicle toy was pretty neat! There are lots of new pins and patches. Use the Gamma Goo kit to make your own glow-in-the-dark slime! Avengers Headquarters is where you’ll see live shows starring your favorite super heroes! This will also be the site of a future E-ticket attraction where you will board a Quinjet and head to Wakanda, fighting alongside the Avengers. I can’t wait for that! There’s a full-size Quinjet sitting on the roof! This is the only place in the world you can see a real, full-size Quinjet! There are lots of photo ops throughout the land as well! Next we’ll check out the Ancient Sanctum. Here you can see Doctor Strange in a show with some magic and mystery! They say this area comes to life with magical energy at night. I imagine it’s beautiful after dark when everything lights up! There’s another great photo op in this area that’s a neat illusion! Over at Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout, a cosmic disruption has caused splashes of space remnants to warp the ground around the attraction! There’s lots of colorful space goop all over! It’s a fun new addition to the otherwise boring pavement. If you look closely you may even find some hidden mickeys! I was able to spot 3 of them, but I heard there may be even more! Guardians isn’t brand new, but since it’s also part of Avengers Campus (and an amazing attraction), let’s take a ride! Just inside, the Collector’s prized possessions are on display. Cosmo is always our favorite! A portrait of The Collector hangs in the entrance. Due to Covid, the pre-show with Rocket isn’t running right now, so you just walk through this room. But we took a few moments to admire some of The Collector’s artifacts on our way through. We're almost there! We always say “Hi!” to Harold, the old yeti from The Matterhorn that The Collector has snapped up for his collection. New plexiglass has been installed in the ride vehicles to allow for higher capacity. Here we go! Guardians is always so much fun! It’s a musical, special-effects-filled free-fall ride with unpredictable drop sequences that change depending on which song you get! And of course, all your favorite characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies are there! After the ride you exit through The Collector’s Warehouse, where lots more Marvel merchandise is available. This is a great place to get Marvel clothing items. Pin collectors should check this store out too! Groot fans will be in heaven here. This Groot attaches to cords, cables, or wires, such as your headphone wires! We love the Guardians themed plush toys! And the Groot Loungefly backpack may just be a “must have” item. That concludes our first look at Avengers Campus! This was a small media preview that showed some aspects of the land, but we weren’t able to see many of the characters and shows during our visit, so know that there’s MUCH more to see and experience when you visit. We hope you enjoyed this taste of Avengers Campus as much as we did! We’ll end with this final image of the entrance area - which is no longer closed off because the land is now OPEN! Be sure to check it out for yourself! Thanks to Disney for inviting us to check out Avengers Campus, and thanks to you for checking out our report!

  6. Everyone should be happy that they aren't closing entirely those 2 days, geez. An 8 pm close on Sunday and Monday, oh the humanity. SFSTL is only open until 7 right now most nights, 8 on Sat

  8. We rode CC last summer when it's debut was muted by the virus that shall not be named and I had no idea that deluge of water was coming. First time in a very long while that I have had a true surprise on a ride. They do that all the time for local stories on SFSTL, have used some footage showing Superman a few times this year even though it is not every running again.

  9. Really seems like they just pulled a stock B roll of the park. They probably use that exact footage for any story they do about HW.

  10. My last visit to Cedar Point was late May 2019 on a Tuesday and Wednesday so my last impression of the park was obviously a good one. But I also remember a decent amount of people preferring KI even in the early 2010's, which was always sort of strange to me, but hey... different strokes, etc. King Island is without a doubt one of the better overall parks in the country though. Well rounded for sure, and I can't disagree with anything in your post.

  11. ^Yes, they're using the same strategy as they did for Galaxy's Edge: Get the land open with a "D ticket" ride, and get traffic and revenue, while they build the "E ticket" ride. (At least that seems like what they're doing.)

  12. FYI Fun Spot is having a sale this Saturday for $23 tickets, limit of 10 per person. If anyone has a trip to Orlando scheduled this summer/fall might be worth grabbing a couple passes. I'm not this biggest fan of Fun Spot but for $23 it's worth it's worth it for a few hours of fun.

  14. I know one major difference I noticed between Knoebels and SFA's flyers construction-wise is Knoebels's sail is made of fabric, and I think SFA's is made of thin metal or plastic (or maybe some sort of composite, IDK). I suspect Bisch-Rocco has more lightweight 'vehicles' compared to Larson, making snapping easier as the wind is able to toss the Bisch-Rocco seats around more.

  15. Recently announced, and too too good, not to post here! https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/07/business/burger-king-chick-fil-a-lgbt/index.html Burger King took on Chick-fil-A, with donations to LGTBQ2+ groups for each new chicken sandwich sold. And selling them on Sunday, too. Take that, fil-A!

  16. The selection/number of rides may be relatively little (outside the water park), but the plot of land the park sits on certainly is not! Feels like hiking a mile getting to Voyage, or even Thunderbird. Well worth the trip though, as the vistas around the park are quite farmland scenic! I was so saddened to hear of the incident and learn much later of their passing. I can't even begin to fathom how it must've been for the family visiting the park that day, let alone for the operators running the ride then. It was a good call for the park to have closed the coaster that night right after. I wish them everyone involved much strength and healing from this tragedy. For the event, I managed one ride on Voyage. Understandably a roughly 55 minute wait during Saturday's ERT, with every switchback inside and outside the line full + some spilling past the entrance, and the park needing to close the line early so everyone got through before the night got too late. All three woodies were running great, especially Raven with the track work done on the turn over the lake! The one ride on Voyage at night was stellar as always, added in with parts of both Voyage and Raven being pitch black through the forest! Lastly, I have to point out how incredibly generous it was for Holiday World to have offered all attendees a free return visit this season with their Saturday ticket solely because of Thunderbird's closure, which was mentioned in the Facebook group earlier in the week before the event began. That, alone, I find goes above and beyond with their customer service and is another reason why I love the park so much.

  18. Went to the park for the first time this weekend. A "unique" little park build at the top of a hill. I had plenty of questions as I navigated the park but I can honestly say I have now ridden real wooden coasters lol. I was not prepared. Can't wait to go back and I will bring my hiking shoes this time!

  19. Six Flags Darien Lake put its Fright Fest together in like 3 weeks the year it was last taken over by Six Flags again. I believe an outside company that came in to do the work. That said, if it's ANYTHING like that, it will NOT be a good event.... lol. My point is that just because they have an insane amount of work to be done doesn't mean it can't be done. Yes I know they better have higher standards but with 3 months they can definitely throw something decent together. With Howl-o-scream TAMPA reducing to 5 houses I'm guessing they will take over some of the stuff from there as well. I'm interested to see how this will play out. It's never going to be as "good" as Horror Nights, but with smaller crowds houses I can see them being more enjoyable than the HHN conga lines... even though the sets themselves may not be as good. I also think it's a great way for people to experience the coasters that they generally would have passed on by otherwise not visiting the park. I don't think a lot of people realize what great rides SeaWorld has. We all know, but those that go to Universal and Disney usually couldn't care less about SeaWorld. That may change when/if they get bodies into the event. I'm definitely going to try to make it on opening weekend Saturday night. The only problem is I need to wake up early for Hollywood Studios the next morning... -- might need to replan the order of my parks.

  20. The coaster gods shown on me again. I'm guessing weather (+ weekday) kept crowds away and it was dry for basically all my time there, sans one heavy downpour right before Banshee, which was an experience. Turned out to be a pretty good day, though not for the B&Ms! All 3 went down at various points, Orion for maybe 10, Diamondback for an hour, poor Banshee had some struggles let's just say. So got in like quarter to 11 which was a godsend. Got Orion twice before the normal lines were let in. Basically did a loop and managed to do 2 rides on Diamondback, Mystic Timbers, and one on Beast and Racer all by 1:00. Everything was 10-15 mins tops. Banshee I was to the steps when the rain started and it came down hard. Still went through w it of course and yeah...that was something lol Dried off w some Blue Ice Cream and Red Cream Soda (aka heaven) and the rains stopped so I went back to Banshee which was down for a while. Supposedly someone was stuck in the restraints and they couldn't get it, EMS came and everything (which seemed odd, unless there's a medical issue IDK why unless they have some tool to help?). They emptied the line and said it would be a while which it wasn't, started testing when I got around the corner lol but got another quick ride on Orion, ran back and they were just letting people on! Basically did another 2 laps just hitting the coasters again. Longest wait was Mystic Timbers, which was only 30 mins, next lap was 20 mins. During this time Diamondback was down but again managed to snag it at reopening. Another 2 rounds on Orion and decided to end the day with Banshee which was down again, I even said to one employee "Yikes 2nd time today?" "More like 5th" they said. Once all the rides warmed up I can say that Mystic Timbers is still my fav here. Fully amped up that thing is just non stop and the only thing I can say is wish it was longer. Damn, it's so good. Diamondback was better than last time...which I found pretty lackluster but this one had some solid air in back on basically every hill. The 2 rides I got on Banshee were pretty good, one ofc felt like I was facing a firing squad of paintball guns, and it still doesn't quiiiiiite deliver on what I think it should, but fun ride still. Solidly forceful and I do love the layout. Racer was better than last time, but clearly parts have been retracked, should prob do the rest soon lol Beast was good once warmed up. It still surprises me how OK the ride is, I mean nothing great but it really is fun. Damn though I do wish it could be retracked, I'd love no trims and for the ride to be fully unrestrained which ofc requires retracking bc while I didn't find it toooo rough, damn it was knocking on the door. I know it won't happen and I get it...but I just wish it could be updated a bit. No not "RMC'd" but retracked and with all its speed and length....those straight parts imagine if there were a couple of hills in there. But ah well. And of course: Orion, my new cred of the day. I really was let down at first, though it got better through the day I assume as it warmed up. Had 6 rides I think total and yeah, it's fun, it's solid, drop is superb in back and also gets you some ok air at times but just....dang, it's been said before: We know what B&M can do with a giga and it's just a shame this one doesn't. It doesn't have enough hills to be traditional and loaded with air, it doesn't do enough to be twister, the speed hill left a lot to be desired, and the whole thing is so short. I will agree with above comments the helix and twisting drop and pop into the breaks are great. Of the 4 giga's I've done it's prob my least fav. Deff Mystic Timbers still #1 here. 2 is hard now that DBack had a good day, I'm inclined to give it to Orion but idk Banshee and DBack were both running well. Glad the day was not too crowded and (mostly) dry. Great park, good lineup, nice feel and no, sorry it doesn't touch CP in my opinion but certainly a top 3 park in my book. This also was my 6th park in a 3.5 week span ending my month of freedom between grad school and work. Glad it ended on a good note and it's great to be doing parks again!

  22. Went to the park yesterday. I would never imagine I'd fall in love with mystic timbers. I was just enamored with how they managed to leave soooo many trees in tact and still fit the ride in. Orion, oooooorion lol. What can I say? I got off it feeling teased. The best parts, to me, were the helix and the hills that followed. I wish more of the ride was like it.
