Great news from Djurs! They recently broke their old record for attendance on a single day, they had above 20 000 guests. Also they are up 10% from last year, and they predict that they could, yet again, have their best season ever. The new family land is acclaimed as the star in the numbers, and more families than ever is visiting.

On a more serious not the park have been in a media storm lately being accused of racism. It's about two attractions in their Africa-themed sections. The Cannibal Pots and the Hottentot-Karrusselen.

While I personally don't really care, I can see why some find Hottentot-Karrusselen a bit racist, the name Hottentot isn't really a flattering name for people with African decent in Denmark. I can see them renaming it and replacing the man in the middle for next year if it keeps going.

As for the Cannibal Pots I don't see anything weird with it.

For this halloween Djurs is opening a haunted house! They already opened their witch-school a few seasons ago for their haloween event, but this time it looks like it's aimed at a little bit older kids!

Step into the pumpkin plant, which is known to make the best pumpkin soup. BUT LOOK OUT, not everything is as usual. On a stormy night the lightning striked and has suddenly created a mystical atmosphere of the factory. Suddenly there is commotion, and the hunt for new ingredients for the soup breaks loose - I wonder who takes the vengeance?

This park seems to have gone from strength to strength since Piraten opened. Im sure the park will be able to throw a fantastic halloween event even though I don't think the ingredients the inhabitants of the haunted house have in mind for the soup will taste that good.

Don't think this has been posted on here, but the park is looking to build a resort that will include up to 1000 rooms in themed areas. One idea is to build a pirate village. Djurs Sommerland will also add a new family ride next year, which will be announced at some point in November.

I think this is a fantastic addition to a park that seems to be expanding at a rather rapid rate. I love Port Royale at Heide Park so if its similar to that I'm sure it will be amazing.

I rode the Gerst Polyp in Liseberg and I have to say, it comes pretty close with the HUSS one. There were some differences though but I can't quite put my finger on what they were. Anyways if HUSS doesn't make these anymore, it's good that Gerst makes these that they don't disappear completely, because they are very fun rides! I'm excited to hear that Djurs is doing well and keeps upgrading the park. I'm already looking forward to visiting Djurs again!

HUSS has never made any polyps.

Are you sure you don't mean Schwartzkopf?

The park recently sent the following press release regarding recent 2016 ride announcement and the vitality of the park.

New ride in 2016 will ensure further growth for Djurs Sommerland

Investments of more than EUR 40 million in new themed rides have recently boosted the number of visitors to Djurs Sommerland. After attracting a record 801,000 visitors in 2015, the park is on track to experience further growth in 2016 when a new pirate ride costing EUR 2.7 million is introduced to the park.

In 2016, there will once again be new and exciting experiences for all the family at Djurs Sommerland, with visitors being invited on a pirate raid on this year’s new ride, Søulken – an investment of EUR 2.7 million in total. On Søulken, visitors will have to hold on tight to the rail as the boats are tossed around on the merciless Caribbean waves, all while canon fire resounds in the ears of the fierce pirates and brave sailors.

“We’ve been looking for a new family ride that offers a unique experience. In Søulken, we’ve found a ride that is sure to be among visitor favourites if its popularity in theme parks abroad is anything to go by. This new attraction is a fun ‘thrilling ride’ for older children, but also for children as young as 5–6 years old and of course their parents. We expect it to be a hit among families with children,” says Henrik B. Nielsen, CEO of Djurs Sommerland.

Kian Kronvang, chairman of Danish roller coaster enthusiasts’ club CoasterClub Denmark, is enthusiastic about the new ride at Djurs Sommerland, and he says that this ride is among the best in which a theme park can invest. Kian Kronvang also claims that part of what makes this ride so popular is that each time you go on it, it is an exciting and varied experience with a lot of fun and unexpected motions. It also holds a lot of appeal for families with children, with even the most discerning of daredevils being able to look forward to a good experience.

Henrik B. Nielsen continues: “As well as Søulken, we’re also going to invest a million in new service and eating facilities to ensure we’re ready to welcome even more visitors.”

Extensive pirate theme

Søulken will be located in Piratland next to Denmark’s biggest roller coaster, Piraten, which in itself makes it an experience to try Søulken. The new attraction will also be uniquely and comprehensively themed, having been specially designed by Dutch company Jora Entertainment. The same specialists were also involved in developing the new Bondegårdsland among other attractions.

“There are a lot of exciting pirate aspects to Søulken, and the ride itself is pirate-themed with a big globe, canons and pirate ships that emphasise the story of the pirates’ raids on the seven seas. We really prioritise the staging of the rides in our eight themed areas, as this adds another dimension to the visitor experience,” says Henrik B. Nielsen.

A theme park undergoing rapid development

Since 2008, Scandinavia’s biggest summerland has invested in new themed rides, including Denmark’s biggest roller coasters. In the last eight years, the park has introduced 25 new rides to families for an investment of more than EUR 40 million. In the same period, 5,200,000 visitors in total have visited the park, and the annual number of visitors has increased from 528,000 visitors in 2008 to a record 801,000 visitors in 2015. Looking forward, it isn’t only in 2016 that there will be exciting reasons to visit Djurs Sommerland. There are also long-term plans for both new rides and a resort. Djurs Sommerland and families with children visiting the park undoubtedly have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

Djurs Sommerland will open again on 30 April 2016.

So I know its only concept art but I love how the cannons are firing on the side of the ships. It would be great if they manage that as a practical effect on the ride.

By the look of the concept art, it looks like they won't be spinning, any time soon.

Over the waves and all that theming stuff.

I do love Djurs, by the way.

My goodness, what I would give for forested theme-ish parks like Fårup and Djurs here in the States... I know Knoebels exists but it doesn't seem like exactly the same dynamic.

So 2017 could be another big year for Djurs Sommerland. Nothing official, but a local plan tells that they've got permission to build a major ride next year, and based on the noise reports and other notes in the report, it could be a major family coaster, maybe with a couple of inversions. A 5000m2 area is getting cleared during the 2016 season. The coaster will be around 25-28m / 82-91ft tall, and kids from 110cm/3.6ft can ride. Very interesting news !

The spot between the entrance and the flume ride Colorado River is getting a lot of attention throughout the 2016 season. Lets hope for another beautiful rollercoaster, perhaps with some funky inversions?
