I'm looking to get into photography by picking up a DSLR, the kit I've got my eye on right now is a Nikon D3100 with a 18-55mm and 55-200m set of VR lenses. I was just wondering what you guys where using? I'll be doing a lot more than taking coaster pics and doubt I'd ever take it to a theme park, but I've been trying to get a feel for what others are using.

The D3100 kit (the one you described) is the kit that I bought, from Sam's Club I believe, and I love it. The D3100 seems to be the more "amateur" of the modern NIKON DSLRs while still being a fantastic camera, so I'd suggest it if you're trying to get into photography. It works great in lots of different situations and is very user-friendly to a beginner. The 2 lenses can be a pain if you're constantly switching them out, but it's something you get used to quickly.

Currently I'm looking into getting the D7100 as it's a bit more professional and comes with an 18-200 mm lens.

Some pics from a ghost tour we did this past weekend... Note, most of these images had to be taken at ISO 25,600 or 51,200 at f/1.4 and shutter speeds as low as 1/20-1/40... Extremely harsh conditions. Still LOVE how these came out though. Love the creepy vibe. The tour was amazing.

This was taken in our back yard, halfway through November.

(Using my little Canon PowerShot.)

And then, all the leaves fell, and now it just looks like a big pot of dirt.

I always love it when the leaves turn this colour, just before they all drop away.

For having such a bad camera, I'm pretty happy with how these came out.

Fun fact about that last one. I took it from the handicap line of the Sky Tower, which now has a building in front of it, so this shot is [sadly] impossible to recreate.

These were in my latest Photo TR of SeaWorld Orlando, done with my fisheye lens (which I've learned to leave at home when not necessary to bring. ).

These were taken I went for a walk one day and it was lightly raining, so I brought my camera along for the stroll and did a few shots of watery reflections on the road and really liked how they turned out.

^Thanks!

^^ Rokinon fisheyes are very good quality and not too expensive, though I'm not too certain about how they (or at least my lens) do on any full-frame cameras.

^ They're crop-sensor only, you get black at the edges of the frame and see the hood petals on a full frame, I've been considering getting one myself but can't really justify it yet for something I won't be using very often.
