thrillrideseeker Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Ok so I think "The Gaunlet" at magic springs has awfull breaks... I mean you are flying throught the ride, and then you go around the last turn, up a slight hill, then*BAM* What just happened? You go from like 35mph-0mph in less than 2 seconds and it is so painfull. So yeah... "The Gaunlet" has nasty breaks ~Matthew
Axman Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 You go from like 35mph-0mph in less than 2 seconds and it is so painfull. Hey, you stole my exaggeration!!!! YOU @%!#$!!!!! Wow, so this one has worse breaks than all of the other ones? That's sucks.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Yankee Cannonball comes to mind... Which is kinda strange considering that there is an extra 50'-75' of brakes before the station. And also Canobie Corkscrew... Throws me right into the harness.
snuggles Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Doesn't yankee cannonball have skid brakes? Skid brakes pre-brake quite often, but still provide a somewhat gradual slowing.
supermanrosfan0810 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 For me it's S:RoS at SFNE and any SLC. my first S:RoS ride I was like "UGH! holy crap that stopped quick!"
christianscoasters Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Wildcat at Frontier City. These brakes actually hurt. And Mamba. I rode Mamba at WOF a long time ago and I remember it being a little sudden. Then again, I'm not sure if I remember right. I was young.
Eric_Smith Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 It is not a normal thing, but while I was on Medusa West, the train came to a complete stop on the first set of ending brakes. It really hurt.(For those of you who have not seen this, it is about 35-40 mph stopped in about 30 ft. Please correct me if my stats are off please.)
thrillrideseeker Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 OMG I forgot the Texas Giant... That thing is like a killer. Ok so last time I rode it I was 7 but that thing stopped so quickly I acutally Had a giant bump on the back of my head from hitting the seat so hard. Have they fixed the breaks on it yet? ~Matthew
mudvayneimn Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Titan's midcourse block brake Twisted Twins Roadrunner Express
CoasterNut17 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 All the ending brakes at Mt. Olympus. They really slam you into you lap bar and side. It really HURTS!
imbordisux Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Sooperdooperlooper at "Hersheypark" is my vote, though I'll second whoever said the Wild Mouse at "(Rye) Playland Park" as being extremely painful.
IceDragon Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Sometimes I like them. On The Rattlesnake and other rides like it, they seem to work really well. Rage at AI Is a nice kinda sharp break run, but the restraints are comfortable. Another is The Vampire at CWoA. Sharp brakes, but it's ok because the restraints are comfortable
mpress Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I'll second the Superdooperlooper in Hershey Park. The first time, it's completely unexpected. I've learned to brace myself now by pushing against the seat in front of me lol.
Swimace Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags America. The brake run is really sudden, although it's smooth. Goudurix and Ninja (SFOG) both have really sudden brakes where the entire ride rattles as the train stops. Woohoo Vekoma loopers of pain!
thomas2 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Eurosat at Europa Park brakes fast! The final brake is easily the part I fear the most.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Doesn't yankee cannonball have skid brakes? Skid brakes pre-brake quite often, but still provide a somewhat gradual slowing. Yes but the inital deceleration is very sharp it is like 25-0 in 1 second and the length of two cars, I understand the pre brake(s) to keep the train from overshooting the station...
cpfan101 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 My vote would have to go to ''The Steel Eel" at Sea World San Antonio. Whenever they are running two trains on that ride, the crew works as fast as they can dispathing every train so that the second one will not have to stop on the break run making the line move very fast. However, when something happens and the second train has to stop, it is very quick as you are traveling about 35 MPH and has less than a train length to come to a complete stop. Also the Roadrunner isn't that bad. It is quick but it is not quick enough to the point that it is painful when you come to the final stop. David
TPDave Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Not quite the same, but Dragons fury at Chessington world of adventures (spinning coaster) realy hurts in the brake run. When the cars slowed down, the car is spun round to the correct position to enter the station then locked, this smashes your knees against the edge of the car and really hurts if you're not ready. To answer the point in the first post, i don't like it at all!

David That sounds similar to the many Arrows that have just a single brake run right before the station. I remember doing evac drills on the Canyon Blaster (Adventuredome). No one wanted to be on the train when we had to practice e-stops. You can see the track vibrate.
riccoaster Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 The Shockwave-SFOT has a really sharp stop to me and whats weird I've grown to like it.
socalMAN123 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Before they trimmed it crazily, Mulholland Madness at DCA had a VERY painful stop. You would be going like 15 MPH, and then you would stop almost instantly. ---Brent
odene497 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Superman:ROS at Darien Lake. Its quick but smooth, not bad if you hold your hands against the lapbar. Any Vekoma SLC. I love the brakes on these. It ust feels cool when your legs go forward and your against the restraint and then you just stop.
jimbobcoaster Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 As many people said, Great American Scream Machine at SFOG. Of course, the last time I rode it I was ready for the break, so I braced myself, but I still banged my head on the seat... HARD.
