What Rides Scares the Crud Out Of You?

Recommended Posts

mine would have to be a Disk'o. not because its scary, the restraints hurt like f**k :\.

if there's on ride im truly afraid of, it would have to be a freefall tower. i hate watching them, but i love riding them :\.

i also hate ferris wheels, the ski-transport things (one in Isle of Weight thats got an 80ft drop onto a stalagtite and we managed to push the bars up. this was when i was around 8, lol) and very violent rides.

may sound cliche, but i have yet to find a ride that truely scares me so much that i wont go on it. im desperate to do a skycoaster though and i love the Huss Enterprise. the less restraints, the better!!!

Oh yeah, normal orbiter rides just plain freak me out. It really feels like you're going to fall out! Yeah, the suspense built up the first time I rode one when, before I rode, the ride op had to clean up someone's puke.

The first time I rode one of those, I got on thinking it was a scrambler.

Luckily I liked it. If I had seen it in action beforehand, I probably wouldnt have gone on it (I was a big chicken back then).

Wait... don't you mean that the other way around?

The Parachute Drop Ride at SFOG....when you get to the top....and you sit there.....waiting to drop.....and the only restraint is a piece of chain across your lap....and it feels like the seat is tilted a little forward....and the wind is blowing you around....and you think about the little cable holding you up.....but at least there is that pad on the bottom of the seat to cushion the blow if the machine should fail.

Double Ferris Wheels....when the wheel that you're in is stuck rotating up top while they are loading the other wheel. You have plenty of time to look at all the rusty hardware, the worn out bias ply tire "driving" the wheel...not to mention the genius with two teeth running the ride.....but it is fun when the whole double ferris wheel is in motion.

Millennium Force @ Cedar Point

Perilous Plunge @ Knott's Berry Farm

Supreme Scream @ Knott's Berry Farm

Insanity @ Stratosphere Tower

Rides that scared me and STILL scare me:

X-Scream @ Stratosphere Tower

yes, i agree.....i enjoy it!

the funny thing is that Rachel cant get enuf of TOT....i think its being outside that gets her!

we have Pitfall here at Kennywood, which is really such a mild ride (just a simple drop) but it took me years to get her on that one, too....again, i think because its outside and gives the feeling of might fall out!

The Screamin'Squerrel rides look pretty freaky, but from reviews they are just meh.

Dragster was a little intimidating when you get out on the launch track.....but I havent been scared at all of a coaster. Unless you count those sky coasters.....I was freaked out when I got to the top! Totally worth the money!

Ya. Rides like Tower of Terror where you ride secured on a theater-type platform in an enclosed building don't give you the illusion of how high you really are ('cause you just can't see the ground below).

I can see why Rachel is a bit apprehensive about riding any outdoor free-standing drop tower. Those rides secure you in tiny seats without any sides, leave your legs dangling, and you can really see how high you are!

None now.....about the only thing I won't ride is that SkyCoaster thing or the Thrill Shot at Magic Mountain, and most carnival/fair flat rides. The only coaster that ever had really, really shaken me up pre-ride was Xcelerator at Knott's, to the point that the attendant checking my restraint asked me if I was okay. Oddly enough, I knew the ride was safe, and it looked like more fun than anything else, but I had had a nightmare before the first time I rode it where I had been standing in the station waiting to ride, one of the trains was launched too fast, and derailed-shooting right off the track at the top and landing in the street outside the park. The dream kept playing and replaying as I waited in line.....overpowering my rational thinking, and by the time I got on my face had gone white. When we took off, I think my heart skipped a beat but after that I was fine, I loved it and wanted to go again.

I have had mild butterflies on other rides the first time I rode them, notably Supreme Scream and X, but in the case of both rides the nervousness went away during the climb up to the top and never returned. Supreme Scream I rode the first time with some friends and one of them said something funny and made me laugh as we got near the top, which took the edge off and then I loved the freefall sensation. On X the first time (middle of the train and at night) I had mild butterflies because I didn't know what to expect, but let out a scream about 75 feet up the lift and any anxiety left, I was just excited to ride it. My friend was extremely nervous, though. I got really disoriented and my mouth had gone dry when we hit the brakes, but I immediately wanted to ride again. Now both my friend who I rode it with the first time and myself can't get enough of X in the front row and even though I don't look straight down on Supreme, I love the view looking out and the drop.

Three coasters I have yet to ride make me nervous: Millenium Force, Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka, and only because of the height being over 300 feet, but I'm sure that someday when I get to ride them, I will enjoy those too. In my experience, generally, the scarier a ride looks the more fun it ends up being. I feel safer on any coaster at any theme park than I do driving on the LA Freeways!
