Hilltopper39 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 ^Nice update, I'm really looking forward to following the progress of this attraction through your Blog. The pictures that I see of this construction site the more impressed with the project I am. Depending on what other surprises Dollywood has in store this may end up being on of B&M signature attractions.
jarmor Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 ^We know the layout of both X-flight and Wild Eagle. X-Flight has the dive off the drop and the awesome heartline spin, both elements unique to wing riders. Wild eagle has a loop, a barrel roll, an Immelmann, and a corkscrew, in addition to the hill and helixes at the end- all of which can be found on any other floorless or sit-down Beemer. All I'm saying is, I was looking forward to those new elements as much as I was looking forward to the trains. : / It may be just me but heartline spins and the dive off the drop are nothing new under the sun. Hydra starts off with a heartline spin and the dive off the drop, a la z force, isn't all that brand spanking new. Im just saying, everything on every wing rider can be easily found on another coaster being that the only think different about riding a wing walker and a floorless is the fact that you are just situated on the side of t he track vs on top.
Fooz Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Something interesting: on the 'In the Loop' podcast, the Dollywood PR guy was talking about how they had gotten lots of different pitches for the installation, and they had only specified the amount of money they were willing to spend. The only pitch that he specifically mentioned was that the park was interested in a Mack 'Blue Fire' type ride, but went with the Wing Coaster.
coasterfreak101 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 And if they get a Mack like Blue Fire they'll officially be my #1 park to hit ever. And they're already up there! Oh man, think of the possibilities.
bejackso Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 the views from this ride are going to be so, so, so awesome.
sammmmmy Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 And if they get a Mack like Blue Fire they'll officially be my #1 park to hit ever. And they're already up there! Oh man, think of the possibilities. RIGHT?!?
Toro#1 Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Gonna be a great ride, the layout seems simple but again people need to take into account of where this ride is going in, I was honestly expecting more "wow factor" because of the layout but when it's built it definitely will deliver the "wow factor" when we see it complete because of how large it will be. Thumbs up to Dollywood for this!
ernierocker Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 New video uploaded to Wild Eagle's website: http://www.dollywood2012.com/ (Click the Video link at the top of page and it is the 2nd video on the right.) Nothing much as far as additional concept art but it does explain how they came up with the name of the ride.
thrillerman1 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Aww no love for Tennessee Tornado in the vid, but otherwise well done.
tntornadox Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Aww no love for Tennessee Tornado in the vid, but otherwise well done. Don't worry, Tornado is used to not getting any love... oh yeah, even after Wild Eagle is built, TT will still be the fastest coaster at Dollywood... -whistles-
coasterfreaky Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Tornado is so underrated....third inversion = geeeeeeeeees to the maximus.
DiSab Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Very cool video, always nice to see parks go out of their way to keep their customers and fans up-to-date with new installments.
tntornadox Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Quick update... Wild Eagle's lift hill is nearly half complete and construction has begun on the transfer table and station buildings... no pics to share, but thought everyone would like an update.
ernierocker Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 ^ Awesome, thanks for the update. We are heading down there in a couple of weeks, so good to know that the lift hill will be visible.
Guy T. Koepp Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I will be there next Monday. I'll be sure to snap off a couple of pix of the progress.
jarmor Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Am I the only one having problems with the official site? Everytime I click on the links at the top all it does is refresh the page and tell me the tab has been recovered. It's been like that since day one for me.
Intimidator305 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 ^ Same here... It isn't just my computer and internet either because I've tried on 4 different computers and have tried on 3 different WiFis. I wish they would fix that problem.
crazywolf88 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 ^ what browser are you using? I'm using chrome and had no problems with the website recently.
TheSchwitek Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I have tried to view the page on 3 different computers using Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Same problem on each. I just gave up with looking at the website a week ago. Let us know if there is a solution!
ernierocker Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) It is working fine for me this morning. By the way, a new Wild Eagle video will be released at 4:00 P.M. (EST) today. dw-2012.com/updates/ Edited October 4, 2011 by ernierocker
jarmor Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Great! It's working for me now also. SOmeone must have had their ear to the ground...
coasterfreak101 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) Wow - I don't know that there's too many modern coasters out there that get this close to the ground! http://dw-2012.com/egg-to-eagle-the-making-of-wild-eagle/ Edited October 4, 2011 by ernierocker
Intimidator305 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXD97D5pHzg (1:37-1:39 train shot!) Pun to Six Flags and Cedar Fair? "We're not building this coaster on some flat level parking lot!" Edited October 4, 2011 by Intimidator305
Hilltopper39 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 One quick comment about the length of the brake run, I think that has to do a lot with the location of the ride. If you look at some of the construction photos, and the ride stats you'll notice that the lift height is almost 200 feet but the drop is only 135 feet. In some of the recent pictures on the blog you'll notice also that there is a very steep hill that the lift climbs on and over to reach the top of the mountain where the majority of the ride layout is. Basically the station is at the path level, and the ride is on the top of a ridge 50-70 feet above the path level. The long brake run I think is to get the train back down to the level that the station sits on. I believe that the concrete section in the bottom right of this picture is the station area and this pic was taken from the crest of the ridge where the majority of the track layout is, pretty high up there! This is going to be one of the most beautiful coasters in the world.
