Shavethewhales Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 If it's real, I'm incredibly happy that DW is getting a B&M at last, definitely a park that can use one. Why? I've always thought DW needed a B&M after SDC got one. They're obviously great with handling large crowds, never break down, and well, they're awesome. I'm still not sure how one would fit into DW without breaking the park's charm, but I'm sure DW would have a plan that would put their B&M up in the ranks of those such as Nemesis or Black Mamba. I think those 2 bolts you are referring to are simply there to hold a cap in place on the ends of the rails for shipping purposes...so water, debris, etc doesn't get into the rails during shipping. Interesting, didn't think of that. I don't know that we've seen that before on other track being transported though, but I'll have to look again.
r3vo Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Well, I'm a season pass holder at DW and will be up there this weekend. I'll try to keep an eye out and see if I can find where they are storing these parts if they are truly going to DW. Will also try to update on the progress of the construction.
KDcoasterMAN Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I can see Dollywood bringing the B&M Wing to America. Dollywood likes to bring first to its park. (meaning Mystery Mine was the first Euro-Fighter in America). We can only expect good things from this project. To me. After seeing Raptor, I can imagine a Eagle themed coaster, with an out and back layout heading to Mystery Mine and back. Noting to extreme of course.
StarTrekGeek Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) I just found this on ThrillNetwork (from Daniel Barto): Track and supports are on site here at dollywood! It's the royal blue track and tan supports. I can confirm with 100% confidence that it is a b&m "Yo dawg, we heard you like teasers. So we put a teaser in a teaser so you can get intrigued while you get intrigued." Anyways, can anyone confirm if this is true? Edited June 7, 2011 by StarTrekGeek
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^Looks like Thrill Network has blocked any direct links from TPR. It's still easy to get there just by going directly to the site.
The SETGO Guys Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Of course I think that everyone will be hoping for the same thing; B&M 4D LAP BAR ONLY LAUNCHED ROLLER COASTER. Yeah, good luck seeing that one happen! B&M NEVER EVER does launches! Only one B&M has a launch, Mr.Bolliger was very against it, they contracted an outside company to do that part of the coaster. Lapbars.....eh, the don't really fit with that type of ride, I think people have loved the OTSR so far on Raptor. ----- As for the B&M Track, I'm not surprised. I think that would be a good addition!
Shavethewhales Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Nice. Now the only big questions are: invert or wing-walker? and how the heck are they going to theme this thing? If this is the same track that was spotted at the plant a while back, it sounded like it was for an invert based on the shipping labels, but if it is different, it seems more likely to be a wing-walker based on the clues DW has given. It's often hard to tell how serious/accurate DW's clues are, so it seems like a toss-up to me. As for theming, the only clue is "the sky is the limit" which could mean anything, but obviously either an invert or wing-walker lends itself to some kind of flying experience. That isn't to say the ride will be totally based around flying. It could be a wacky steam-punk invention (a-la Wildfire), some kind of 'explosive' theme (a la powderkeg), or even another storm theme like thunderhead. Anything sounds good to me as long as DW/HFEC works their usual magic and raises the bar once again for immersive theming, charm, and atmosphere.
RollerCoasterSmi Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Finally a Dollywood roller coaster that isn't brown (excluding VeggieTales Sideshow Spin)! Also The SETGO Guys, I was making a comment about what everyone seems to want, even though I am 99% sure it will never happen!
jamesdillaman Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 An invert would be awesome for Dollywood, especially if it uses the terrain... We don't have any of those here in the US that I can think of.
Hilltopper39 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^^Now that you mention it a terrain inverted coaster might be really cool and I cant think of any inverted coaster that you could really classify as a terrain coaster other than Nemesis (and how did that one turn out?). Odds are this will probably still end up being a wing rider but eh anything from B&M is better than most anything else!
tntornadox Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) ADMIN EDIT! PHOTO REMOVED! ONRIDE PHOTOS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE TAKEN AT DOLLYWOOD. THE PARK HAS ASKED US TO REMOVE THIS PHOTO - AND THEY ARE WELL AWARE THAT IT WAS NOT TAKEN BY A TPR MEMBER. AND TO DISPEL SOME STUPID RUMORS BY REALLY IDIOT PEOPLE, NO, TPR DID NOT GET "BUSTED" BECAUSE OF THE PHOTO, IN FACT, WE APPROACHED DOLLYWOOD ABOUT IT AND ASKED THEM WHAT WE SHOULD DO WITH IT. THEY TOTALLY THANKED US FOR BRINGING IT TO THEIR ATTENTION. HATERS GOTTA HATE.... Since this one has been removed, he apparently has pictures taken from the Dollywood Express as well. As far as I know, photos are and always have been allowed on that attraction. Edited June 8, 2011 by robbalvey
coasterbear30 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Guess no one read my earlier post. Seeing as how DW said it would be a FIRST IN THE US, I highly doubt it would be an Invert. There are like 50 B&M inverts in the US. One of the elements will be the first in the world and it will be the most expensive project that DW has ever done. That screams wingrider to me but maybe that's just me.
jedimaster1227 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^^Well... That basically confirms that the track belongs to Dollywood.
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^I'm changing my mind and saying it'll be the first B&M gigacoaster.
tntornadox Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 It's now (basically) confirmed Dollywood will be adding a creation from Bolliger & Mabillard in 2012. He has more pictures to share, some better.
tntornadox Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 B&M Wing Coaster...Like Raptor at Gardaland? That would be my guess. A terrain hugging design.
COASTER FREAK 11 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 This has me really excited. Dollywood always has such high quality rides, I cant wait to see what they do with a B&M!
jarmor Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I'll go ahead and throw floorless out the window, those don't get built anymore. http://rcdb.com/9647.htm Anyway...I was really hoping for this to be true. I always said that dollywood would never get a beemer, but in the back of my head I was hoping they would! I wonder what can be done with the bright blue color since, as it was said, most all their rides are "earth toned"...
tntornadox Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Having saw some other pictures, the supports are a tan color. Due to the foliage, other photos did not come out as clear, but there is apparently alot of track currently on site and trucks are coming in daily...
SuperShawn Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 From the sounds of things I'll have a great excuse to head back to Dollywood in 2012! Not that one needs an excuse to go there ever
Shavethewhales Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Very, very cool. I think my heart skipped a beat when I saw those photos, no need to hold back the anticipation now. And I guess there's not much question that it's a wing-rider after all. To be honest, I was hoping that there was some misunderstanding of the first in the US thing and that it was going to be an invert. I still think the wing-rider's are another fad and don't look all that awesome compared to a good old fashioned invert or looper, but DW will make it special no matter what. I wonder if DW's version will have rotating seats. Wasn't that in development at some point?
Blatch Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I wonder if DW's version will have rotating seats. Wasn't that in development at some point? Yes, they're still planning on that. The reason they haven't tried to add that yet is that they need some data on the coaster type's forces. They're currently in the process of collecting data from Raptor so that they can use it in the making of a similar coaster, but with the spinning seats. I can't really see any reason why Dollywood's Coaster would have the spinning seats, especially since Raptor's only been open for 2 months now. I'm never doubting that it could happen, though, since B&M could already have it figured out by now.
