moneygrabber Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Ok so here's my advice. Dollywood's tickets are $64 dollars a piece this year, and being that's your main goal put that at the top of your list. Hotel? How many nights are you going to be in the area? If it's just 1-2 nights you can find many reasonable hotels for a great price under 100 dollars around this time of year. I wouldn't go all DreamMore if you are trying to save money. Restaurants-any where you eat in the area is going to be around 40-60 dollars at the cheapest. (TGI, Olive Garden, Apple Barn, Margaritaville, etc) BUT look for coupons whether they are on the Internet or in the coupon books located at the many stands with brochures. Your hotel will often even give discounts. (By the way, there are also hotels that give Dollywood tickets at a discount) As far as location of hotel, Pigeon Forge would be better. Gatlinburg tends to spike prices for not so nice hotels. Funny story, I've been in a hotel where a bear just walked in, got in the pool, then left. Manager said it happened all the time. That was in Gatlinburg. Yeah I'd defintely reccommend the Apple Barn! Or The Flapjack Pancake House
CoastinKenny Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Been following along in this thread since the announcement was made. I'm super excited for this thing to get tested and open! I'll be in the area March 28-31, and I'm so ready to ride this.
Vonni Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Has anymore construction been done to the peak structure over the top of the lift/launch?
Dollywoodlover20 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 In a picture I seen a while back from the quad down, it actually looked like it had been removed. Now that's just from my sight, but you can see the railing end near the top end and it used to be connected to the structure.

(TGI, Olive Garden, Apple Barn, Margaritaville, etc) What the hell are you ordering at those places to make the cost so high?! I could go into any of them with $20 and cover food and tip no problem.
Dollywoodlover20 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Well I was just accounting for 3 people. My family and I. That's what it usually costs with eating satisfyingly and reasonable.
WildEagle2014 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 The support structure is still there...we've heard it is to prevent wasps from gathering on the lift hill like they do on the other coasters.
brenthodge Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 APPLE BARN - not that great food - massive quantities of average Old Mill Pottery House - REALY good food and not a "gorge yourself for one LOW price" Song and Hearth at Dream More was very good and not too high Look around for local places and "break the chain"
ernierocker Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Heads up to anyone coming down for opening weekend that uses I-75 south. http://wate.com/2016/02/26/i-75n-closed-in-campbell-county-for-rock-slide/ I don't know much yet, but I do know I get to go into work tomorrow and produce the plans for the repair job by Monday morning. If this does affect some of you, I will be sure to keep this thread updated. Update: Southbound lanes will likely be open prior to opening weekend. We are giving the contractor 21 days to have 1 lane open Northbound, so I would still count on using the detours listed in the article below. All lanes should be re-opened on or before April 15th. http://wate.com/2016/02/29/tdot-awards-2-9m-contract-to-repair-campbell-county-i-75-rock-slide/
mordecai-75 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Everyone just eat at Taco Bell and save your money for cinnamon bread, it's that simple!
ZeroGravity55 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Everyone just eat at Taco Bell and save your money for cinnamon bread, it's that simple! Is it really that simple? Can one enjoy their cinnamon bread while sitting on the shitter from eating Taco Bell?
Nrthwnd Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 ^ I would rather enjoy cinnamon bread, after eating Taco Bell and the resulting....uh.....consequences.
thrillerman1 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Does anyone know the dates of the Spring hot rod show? I'm planning to be in the area early April and hoping to avoid it if possible.
Dollywoodlover20 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Here's a really good tip for saving money. Avoid Red's Diner (because it's a bit pricy for a burger and fries) and get loads of the delicious cinnamon bread! Although I am interested in trying this new Chicken Truck with the Airstream dippin dots
Nrthwnd Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (not so) Seriously guys, what's a good place to eat in the park? I will pay for deliciousness, abundance, and... uh...tastiness.* * Besides the fff-ing cinnamon bread!

ASE Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Does anyone know the dates of the Spring hot rod show? I'm planning to be in the area early April and hoping to avoid it if possible. April 14-16. You can see the calendar of the biggest events in Pigeon Forge at http://www.pigeonforgetnguide.com/events/pigeon-forge-events-calendar/ . Most area spring breaks are April 1-10, so there will be slightly heavier crowds then as well.

Vonni Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Is Aunt Granny's a buffet? I've not been to DW in many a moon, but I did eat at a buffet and that name sounds familiar.
ASE Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Is Aunt Granny's a buffet? I've not been to DW in many a moon, but I did eat at a buffet and that name sounds familiar. Yes...it's the majority of visitors' favorite meal in the park.
Dollywoodlover20 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Miss Lillian's is also good. Dinner and a show outside type deal, plus she's hilarious.
