Best American B&M Inverted coaster

I think a lot of it depends on whether you prefer the shorter inverts, or the bigger ones. I generally prefer the bigger ones, since they're longer, faster, and more reridable, but you can't deny the awesome forcefulness of the smaller, tighter designs.

 

I haven't been on Montu (rain...) or Patriot but otherwise my favorite is definitely Alpengeist. The interaction with theming and landscaping, combined with the its height, give it a great sensation of speed, and the second half is unlike many other B&M designs in that the focus doesn't seem to be on just getting from one inversion to the next.

 

I also liked Talon a lot, but it's been a long time since I last rode it. Carowind's Afterburn wasn't especially forceful, but it has a fun, solid layout and the tunnels are nice.

I have ridden 9 of the 11 choices.

 

I went with Montu as my favorite.

Alpengeist is a VERY close second though.

 

This may surprise some people, but I would say Raptor is my least favorite B&M invert that I have ridden. It's at my home park too, so It's not a biased decision.

Way last) Batman Clones- Horay for the first invert but really the ride only gives me a headache. You cant even enjoy the ride because its so tight and short.

I've only ridden three of the selections: Talon, Alpengeist, and the Batmans from SFMM & SFGAdv. Alpengeist is easily my favorite, with the advantages in height, speed, theming, etc. It is a little bit of a headbanger, though.

Nobody said you needed one to make a great inverted rollercoaster . I think it is extremely close between Alpie and Montu. The rest don't even compare. Busch knows how to make B&M's.

Alpengeist looks like the best, hands down. It seems to have everything that you need to make a good B&M coaster.. Height, speed, inversions, theming, and landscaping.

 

Talon has always caught my eye too, but as for inverted coasters I have been on, I'd rate them like this (including Impulses and kiddie inverts, of course):

It's unfortunate we're grouping Fire and Ice Dragon together because Fire is my favorite B&M invert and Ice Dragon would probably be in the lower half of the pack for me.

 

Fire Dragon, to me, is the most perfectly orchestrated looping coaster B&M has ever built. The entire coaster is a masterpiece, but the camelback, followed by that HARD kick to the right into the helix-wrapped Immelman and then the long, dramatic straight track into the vertical loop is one of the most dramatic, powerful, and awe-inspiring sequences on any coaster. And this coming from a guy who isn't even into looping coasters that much.

I voted for Montu, for me its easily the best invert out there. Just a great overall coaster with awesome pacing, atmosphere, and overall quality ride. It has suffered quite a bit over the years with trims but even after that I still think its the best of the bunch. Fire Dragon would be second followed by Alpengeist.

Alpengiest gets my vote. Even though Top Gun (Flight Deck) was pretty dandy also.

 

Jeff needs to update the list to include Goliath and Great White. And to re-name some of them.
