Disney Worker Injured At Animal Kingdom

POSTED: 12:01 am EST November 29, 2007

UPDATED: 12:06 am EST November 29, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Walt Disney World worker was seriously injured after she apparently fell off of a platform at the Animal Kingdom theme park.

Disney officials said the woman, who was seriously injured five days ago on the Primeval Whirl children's ride, took a turn for the worst Wednesday night.

The ride attendant was standing in a place that was typically off limits to employees and was hit by a moving ride car, a Disney representative said.

The victim hit her head during the fall, according to the report.

Since the woman was breathing and conscious, Disney did not call the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. However, on Wednesday, OSHA was notified of the incident, Local 6 reported.

Disney officials said there does not appear to be a problem with the attraction.

OSHA and the Orange County Sheriff's Office are investigating the accident.

"The ride attendant was standing in a place that was typically off limits to employees and was hit by a moving ride car"

Do people ever learn? Danger Zone means DANGER zone. It would be nice if the article mentioned why the employee was there when the ride was running, but still wouldn't justify it. Seems a lot of people dont realize how the cars are wider than the track on the Reverchon / Zamperla Mice.

Ok, people are people they do stupid stuff, but to go to an off limits part of the ride? That's just really dumb! If it says OFF LIMITS it means OFF LIMITS ! ! Disney gets a bad rep for everything. A few weeks ago Aol posted the top 15 most dangerous cities to live in, and the heading was " Crime heads towards Disney World " WTHeck ?!?! That has nothing to do with Disney World! Idk people are idiots.

It has everything to do with DisneyWorld. Criminals prey on unsuspecting people and travelers/tourists. Crime follows people.

^And with Universal, Sea World, etc. More tourist stuff, more people, more crime. Sad but true.

A few years back, a BGE employee was killed when his head was struck by a train on the Big Bad Wolf. Sad, but he, too, was wandering around in a restricted area.

Well, I'm not going to jump to conclusions. It doesn't say she was standing in the track area, just on a platform that normally employees aren't active in. At least during cycle time. Perhaps she was new, poorly trained, went out to some catwalk and fell. Doesn't sound like she actuallly ignored signs and walked right out into the track area.

Just my two cents. - But we'll see as this case develops.

Always a shame when things like this happen, but if you don't belong there you shouldn't be there. Granted accidents do happen and humans are pretty good at getting in to accidents.

Small Update,

Seems the woman may have died today from her injuries however they cant confirm at this time. Apparently the sheriffs made an announcement but its unconfirmed at this time by the news station.

Correction: The Orange County Sheriff's Office provided WESH 2 News with incorrect information regarding the condition of a Disney worker who fell from a ride and was injured on Saturday. Although the Sheriff's Office originally said the Disney worker died shortly before noon on Thursday, as of 12:35 p.m., they would no longer confirm the statement. WESH 2 News regrets the error.

It is always a really rare opportunity to be able to visit Disney's Animal Kingdom at night since the park usually closes at around 5 or 6 in the afternoon. The park certainly has a different vibe to it in the evening. Most park guests leave early since quite a few of the major attractions still close around 5:00PM. AK is quite dark at night, as there is not a lot of extra lighting around the park. Our visit started around 4:30 or 5:00 so we could go do a few things before they closed at dusk. We also got to try out the brand new Yaki and Yeti moderately priced sit down restaurant, in which we found to be quite good. There are two dark onride videos of Expedition Everest. One is with Elissa commentary, the other is with Robb. The ride at night is really dark. I would say that over 50% of the ride, you can not see what is in front of you. While the Yeti does not come out very well on the video, he looks quite amazing since your eyes have already adjusted to the low light before entering the final cave. Anyways., enough of this, onto the video.
