Bad Color Schemes and/or Just Ugly Coasters

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm just weird, but I like some of the goofy, bright combinations. Bland colors like gray, white, or black just really turn me off if they are not done right. Nemesis is one of the few coasters that can pull off gray. All black isn't the worst either.

I also hate coasters that have super faded colors that don't look like the original, and the parks wait too long to fix it. Nitro and Xcelerator could really use a new coat.

Well I think Time Warp (Tomb Raider: The Ride from 2004-2007) at Canada's Wonderland had a bad colour scheme as it was blue on the lower half of the supports and teal or sea-foam green on the upper part of the supports while the track being a bright yellow and the cars being orange. Since the beginning of the 2013 season, Time Warp has sported a dark yellow track with dark blue supports and still has the orange cars, which are okay as too much yellow or blue is a bad thing. I like the current colour scheme much better than the previous one. Below is a photo of Time Warp with its original colour scheme.

That, I'll definitely agree with you on because I do feel like the supports being half dark blue and half aquamarine is a a bit jarring for someone looking at the coaster.

Darien Lake's Motocaster is a hot mess of colors, with white and yellow supports and a gray track. I'm not really a fan of two-toned supports, but I say Darien Lake should have made up their mind about the color of Motocoaster's supports.

Well Fraroc, here's what Time Warp has been looking like since the beginning of the 2013 season with it's dark blue supports and yellow track. It's much more pleasing to the eyes.

Thriller (AKA Zonga) originally had a horrible color scheme that is just plain ugly! I threw in a picture of the same coaster when it was at SFDK as "Zonga" for comparison between the two color scheme

Original (as Thriller)

Last known appearance (as Zonga)

That was the original color scheme? What about this one? The photo looks older.

While the whole coaster itself is far from ugly, the teal clamshell restrains on one of the trains of Raging Bull is quite the eye sore, especially compared to how nice looking the other two trains are.

That's pretty interesting as I think the teal trains are the best ones aesthetically! It goes well with orange and purple.

If I had to choose a bad colour scheme it would be any coaster that is just plain white like Monster at Walygator Parc. I also do not like Indiana Jones at Disneyland Paris; it's just plain maroon/brown and I'm not a huge fan.

Vild-Svinet at BonBon-Land, the first ever Gerstlauer Eurofighter probably has one of the most hideous, clashing color schemes I have ever seen. The coaster itself started out as red track and yellow supports, but over the years they started to paint random sections of the track and supports baby blue and...ugh....It looks absolutely horrid.

^The top of the lift hill is also painted in the blue color, so it seems that it's the tallest parts of the coaster that's blue. Seems likely that they've done it that way for a reason rather than just randomly, maybe they were forced to do it after it was installed to lessen the impact on the skyline? You're right though, it doesn't look great.

^I wouldn't have as big of an issue with it, if Rougarou wasn't so close nearby with a very similar color scheme. I can't tell you how many times this year, being at CP with people, that we have been in the Valravn area, and they confused part of Rougarou, as being part of Valravn. Going that color route still makes no sense to me, as far as CP in concerned...
