Danrarbc Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 BTW guys the weighted bags were in the second train of The Boss last weekend. So not having two train ops probably really did come down to the weather not providing enough days warm enough to run both the required number of times before opening day.

jamesk25 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 American Thunder was running two on Saturday. Ah thanks, I never got a chance to ride American Thunder Sunday so I cant say whether or not they were, but if they were running two the day before most likely they were on Sunday Also does The Boss still run three trains? If so where did the third train get moved or stored to? I thought they kept them on the transfer tracks for winter storage. Taken Sunday March 24th

I thought they kept them on the transfer tracks for winter storage. Boss still can run 3 trains. Usually Boss will run 3 trains during FrightFest. It never got the opportunity last season due to weather. The third train is currently at the Roundhouse undergoing rehab. Awesome thanks for the info!
SixFlagsAstroworld Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 Thats actually a pretty cool photo here, you can see the layout. Normally it would be hidden by leaves all season. Thanks jamesk25
teacherkim Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 So, I can tell you that all 3 of the Tidal Wave boats (or cars? what do you call them?) are sitting in the employee parking lot on trailers. I was there today because the boy was interviewing for a job. Hopefully, ride ops. He still just has a permit so I had to ride out there with him and wait I could see from the lot that Thunder was running, but not Boss of course, Skyscreamer, the train and Colossus were up as well. Although every time I saw Thunder make a run there were maybe 2 or 3 people on it, not surprising with the weather. That was all I could see from my vantage point. He won't be 16 until mid May but they contacted him for an interview within a week of filling out his online application. He was told he would be recommended for employment and should be hearing back in 4-6 weeks. So, hopefully the interviewer wasn't blowing smoke up his butt and he will have the job by the time school lets out. He really wants it!! I think he was pretty nervous since it was his first interview but it also appears they have plenty of positions to fill since they are offering free tickets and skip the line passes just for coming in to interview.
ytterbiumanalyst Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 That could be a great summer job. Good luck to him!
JetScream Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Hi everyone! I’ve lurked on this thread here and there for years, but my family and I have season passes again after a 4-year hiatus and have been three times since Christmas. So I figured it’s a good time to get a user name and participate. I have a 10 y/o and 8 y/o. The older one was out all day yesterday for a friend’s birthday party, but knowing the rain was scheduled to clear up late afternoon, I took the younger one out to the park with me toward the end of the day. We got there at 5:45. Parking lady waved us in with no pass needed. Basically two rows of cars on the general lot and a few ransoms; otherwise the outside was a total ghost town. We rode Joker twice - they had the 8 or so of us who rode the first time stand off toward the exit side while the 4 new people chose their seats, then we were free to sit back down in any of the seats remaining. Watched Ninja run five consecutive trains completely empty while we were in the area. Batman run once or twice with half-full trains. Rode Mine Train twice consecutively. Sat in the very front the first time - the only other riders were in the very back row. They got off for the second ride, and we walked back to take their spot. It was my son’s first time on Screamin’ Eagle. We sat in the first row of the fourth car—his choice. One other pair with us waiting and probably 8 people who chose to stay on for another ride. He loved Eagle, and so did I. It had been several years since my last ride. It’s as great as ever, quite kind and gentle for its age and size. Walked right on Justice League then had just enough time to get on Shazam for its last ride of the night. Got some First Cone on the way out—last Sat on our exit, the line was snaking all the way out the front door, and I wasn’t gonna mess with it. Pleasant surprise to discover that with 25% gold pass discount, two regular waffle cones are only $13. That’s reasonably competitive with Baskin Robbins or anywhere else you’d go for similar volume double-scoop waffle cone. It was overcast and cold, barely 40 degrees out, but a great quick experience.
Danrarbc Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Didn't see the sign last week. Didn't get that close. Progress on Supergirl's home. Good progress on Justice League. Some of the tablets are mounted.
BlahBlahson Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Had a very meh first experience to SFSTL yesterday. It felt worse because I was taking three friends who are not park junkies and purchased tickets for them at $50 a pop. Thankfully I have Gold Season Pass for this year from SFOG. Arrived to the gate at 10:31, started with two good rides on American Thunder (didn't have to leave station, two trains), then we went over to Mr Freeze and had a really exciting ride on coaster I've been eyeing since I was 9! So far it was so good despite early season dispatch times, but then the day just went south. We tried to do Justice League, which broke down after about 7 minutes in line. We waited for 5ish minutes and an op came to the line and said that it was going to be an extended downtime. I decided we would go up the hill all the way to Screamin Eagle to do it before the crowds really hit there. On the way we passed the River Rapids, The Boss (temps too low) Xcalibur, Pandemonium, River King Mine Train, Boomerang (which had just broken down), and Superman which were all closed. Screamin Eagle was 1 train and about a 20 minute wait at noonish. After Eagle we decided to do the only other open ride in this area, the SkyScreamer, mostly for the view. It did not disappoint, but the 10-minute dispatch times were not great. River King Mine Train just came online at this point, so we got on the first train of the day around 12:25pm. My friend realized his phone was not on him, and it turned out that he had lost it somewhere on or near Mr. Freeze. This is not the park's fault but it certainly was a damper. We went down to Ninja, which was running with a much appreciated two trains. Next was Batman, which was one train. The line was backed up to underneath the lift hill and ended up being around 40 minutes. Now it was about 2PM. At this point we had seen Boomerang Cycle, so we walked up the hill to try and catch it before a queue formed. There was no activity for another 10 minutes, and we tried Screamin Eagle. The line looked to be about 40 minutes, so no on that. Boomerang still had no movement, so we trekked down the hill to try for Justice League. Went into Single Rider...ride broke down after 5 minutes. Waited 15 for anything to happen...maintenance looked to be taking a problem car off the track but we were annoyed with everything broken at this point and missing a phone. Left Justice League, Mr Freeze was way outside of the main building and running one side so no, saw that Boomerang was now operational, ran to it, and came to what looked like a 30 minute wait (Fear of another breakdown was real). Group was annoyed with wait times and breakdowns, keeping in mind at this point that Pandemonium and the Boss (temps) were both still unavailable, not including other rides unavailable. We decided we weren't even having fun trying to deal with super slow operations, broken rides, boring food options, zero entertainment choices...and I decided I really didn't want to deal with another 1 to 2 hours trying to pick up a Boomerang and a Spinner credit. We had way more fun at Lone Elk Park and the World Bird Sanctuary that morning than our whole time at Six Flags, and the City Museum the night before as well. After the park we went to the Fountain on Locust which was another phenomenal food and drink choice in the city. Silver Dollar City and Holiday World are close to St Louis. I would definitely recommend someone attend any of those things before choosing Six Flags St Louis.
RollerManic Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 ^If anything dampered my ability to enjoy SDC last March, it was the weather/foliage. It was pretty misfortunate as that was my first, much-awaited revisit to the park in eleven years and the whole atmosphere of the park in spring left me underwhelmed. I had to withhold myself from niavely rushing back there over spring break this yeart as I just couldn’t believe a park such as SDC could’ve once fallen below such high expectations. Going again over spring break wasn’t going to repair my tainted perception, I was just overly anxious to change them; I know with reasonable certainty that the park is more enjoyable in the summer/fall.
ytterbiumanalyst Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 SDC is currently in Spring Break preview. The rides are open, but most of the shops and shows will open April 10th. They do that every year.
prozach626 Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Hi everyone! I’ve lurked on this thread here and there for years, but my family and I have season passes again after a 4-year hiatus and have been three times since Christmas. So I figured it’s a good time to get a user name and participate. Welcome. Sounds like a typical visit to a midwest park on a cold, wet spring day. I've had similar experiences at Silver Dollar City. This is why you don't visit midwest parks in early spring. You probably have a point there.
bert425 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 so we're seriously eyeballing a trip to St. Louis in early June.. never been, and it seems that Six Flags St. Louis has a lot of mid-size "family" coasters and flats (that my spouse will actually ride). If we go, we're planning on staying close to the Arch (as we'd do that, and City Museum) on a Saturday, and then on Sunday go to Six Flags. so the question is: How close to the Arch area is SFStl, and how easy is it to get there from that area? not really familiar with the city at all. we'd likely have a Friday afternoon/evening free after checking in. . so what else fun is there to do in the city? any feedback is welcome! thanks, bert

You'll find a good variety of decent hotels downtown, a lot are pretty cheap unless there's a big event going on (like the Cubs being in town 5/31-6/2). Forest Park is pretty great (zoo, art museum, planetarium), but there's not much going on there in the evening. Grant's Farm is really cool and is open until 10 on Friday evenings. They give 2 free beers to all adults, and free admission. Just have to pay for parking (or there's a city bus from downtown if you don't want to drive). I'd pick Grant's Farm myself.
bert425 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 thanks guys. so I guess we'd need to rent a car to get to Six Flags, which is fine (the gold pass gives us parking too). appreciate the info! might look into staying closer to SF, and driving into the city for the day. where is the airport?
ytterbiumanalyst Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Northwest side, not quite to St. Charles. There's light rail between the airport and downtown, so you really would only need to rent a car for just the day you're going to Six Flags.
teacherkim Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Airport is between Sfsl and the Arch but much further to the North. Think of 3 points of a triangle with the airport the top point. There is metro service from the airport to downtown but no way from airport to Sf except by car. Unfortunately, St louis does not have very good public transportation. You are talking about a 20 min drive from airport to Arch and about 45 min from airport to Sf. You would be much better off just to rent a car for a few days in my opinion. I agree Grant's Farm is a good option. Most stuff in Forest Park, where the Zoo and museums are closes at 5 but the Art Museum is open til 9 on Friday nights, if that's your cup of tea. We have a really world class Botanical Garden too that is pretty close to downtown if you have time on Sat, only open til 5 on Friday, and that would be a reasonable Uber ride.

You're not wrong, and trying to get to work or do anything practical at all is horrific on transit, but if you're going between the touristy areas on the light rail, it's pretty decent. Basically the only people for whom Metro works at all are tourists.
