Ferrari World Discussion Thread

I would never judge a ride by its POV. A video has too many variables that can affect perception that you can never give an assessment of a ride form a video. For example, how wide the lens angle is, and where the focal point is, can greatly affect how 'fast' the coaster looks. Looking at the POV, it doesn't look like 240km/h to me, but when I ride the ride it will be 240km/h, and it will seem like it!

I can't wait to someday get out to Dubai, meet DubaiDave, and ride Formula Rossa!

There are a lot of rides that I have personally shot a POV for and thought "That video doesn't do the ride justice at ALL." This is exactly one of the reasons why whenever we do a POV video for our RAW DVDs, we combine it (whenever possible) with front seat POV, back seat POV, rider cams, off-ride shots, etc. The front seat POVs can often be very misleading and a ride, for example, like Balder, looks very unimpressive from a POV, but watching the rider shots of everyone getting ejector airtime tells a very different story.

With apologies for being the geography nazi, Dubai is one of seven emirates that make up the UAE; the other six are Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah, and Fujarah. None of them are particularly large, but having said that you wouldn't travel to Nevada to visit a park in California would you?

I was out there a few weeks ago, and tried to ride all the operational coasters. Right now the roster is as follows:

- Abu Dhabi has Ferrari World, Hili Fun City, and a handful of shopping mall credits. I can't comment on those because the three full size ones were all down on my visit.

- Dubai has quite a few credits, though the majority are utter crap. The only real worthwhile one is Spin Gear at Sega Republic, which is really good. The coaster at Stargate is so unspeakably bad that it's not even worth it for CreHos. There's a new ride under construction for the indoor Casper Theme Park which might be worthwhile; time will tell.

- Ras al-Khaimah has Saqr Park, featuring a single powered dragon.

- Sharjah has a handful of shopping mall coasters, the best of which is at Space City.

For what it's worth, if you're in the area, it's well worth taking a short flight to Bahrain for the indoor coaster at Chakazoolu. That ride is truly insane; if I kept a top ten list it'd definitely be in it.

Well the indoor coaster at Chakazoolu is made by PAX, so obviously its going to be insane. Have you seen Robb's video of

Wild Train? (Which coincidently the pov of that doesn't look that good but the offride stuff shows how awesome it is)

Edit: For some pictures of Jungle Storm http://www.rcdb.com/1929.htm?p=0

I fairly certain that Noxegon has ridden more PAX coasters then 99.9% of us.

I've been on five Pax coasters including the Strasswalchen one, and you're right; they are pretty insane for the most part. Jungle Storm sits above the rest of them though, probably because it's the only one shoehorned into a ridiculously small space with lots of near misses. This is a ride where adults are not allowed sit in the front half of each car because the clearances are too small (seriously).

Hey

There are a couple of pretty good Mall Coasters in Abu Dhabi too. (included a couple of poor phone pics below)

I really wanna get out there again and ride the Ferrari world rides and Spin Gear up in Dubai

Where exactly is is Hili Fun City anyway? I noticed theres a new Zoo and Family park on Yas Island but never got to check it out when I was there.

Shark Coaster at Marina Mall was slow but not a bad ride

Khalidiyah Mall's rollercoaster is also a good fun ride (for a family ride)

Just to give my input on the POV, there is no way that you can judge a book by its cover guys. If you watch a POV of I305 it looks pretty "not that great" either. When you ride it however, your eyeballs are being slowly gouged out by the forces (something you cant tell from a camera). Also, since it was a mounted camera, you can't really judge how the ride affects the rider. If it was someone holding the cam, you'd most likely see it bouncing all over the place.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is pleased to announce it will open its doors to the general public on 4th November 2010 at 12 noon. Tickets can be purchased from the ticketing counters at the Park on the day. We look forward to welcoming guests to experience the world's first Ferrari theme park for this soft opening.

I don't get what everyone expected - it looks like a whole lot of floater airtime, probably pretty similar to what Kingda Ka has. Except for the launch is better, and the ride is longer, and the speed is used up how it should be. So really, this ride looks fantastic - a powerful launch and all-around FUN afterwards. I don't see any reason to complain, especially when only two people on this entire website have ridden it.

Yeah, the first 8 seconds would be totally worth it.

I like how it doesn't waste any time between when the train locks into the catch car and the launch. The older ones waited around 3 seconds, but FR seems to wait less than 1, and doesn't seem to wait at all before rolling back into place. It seems like it will be much better for capacity, considering the ride seems like it would lack considerably on capacity in the first place.

Wow incredible looks like their faces are being peeled off It is also very close to the ground on those turns it looks as if she was to put her hand out it's gone. It also looks like theres some good pops of airtime maybe not ejector but there is airtime just look at her (not trying to be a perv) ta ta's

I also love how people can feel the airtime through they're PCs and judge a ride before ever psychically riding the ride, I want what ever type of PC you guys are using. With your amazing PC I can save my money and never leave my house since you can experience everything right through the screen OMG I don't even need another person in my life if you can feel airtime, and g's forces through that amazing PC just imagine what a porn site would be like on that thing

Anyways the ride looks (LOOKS) amazing I can't say it is amazing I just have a regular PC
