Disneyland Paris (DLP) Discussion Thread

Hi fellow TPR members,

 

I am new to the TPR forum but have been following your website for months! I am in the UK and for GCSE I am taking French, part of the French GCSE we get to go to Paris and visit DisneyLand Paris! As a lover of Toy Story I cannot wait until it's open, I think that the Slinky ride will be the best. May I enquire what the go-kart esque track is, is it a themed go-kart race or a standard track such as Autopia.

^ Well looking at the model picture I would say neither. The way there are people walking on it makes me think more of a maze or just a random walkthrough thing like the robinson crusoe tree.

Is there any truth to a Toy Story themed ride coming to WDW in the future?

 

Yeah, it's called Toy Story Midway Mania and it opened in 2008.

 

Sorry Wes, I was too quick to post earlier, I should've thought a little more about it first. The park I was told was Magic Kingdom, and since that first post I made I now remember that it was supposed to be themed around "Cars" not Toy Story. Anybody heard anything about a "Cars" attraction in the near future @ WDW?

I assume the production and model pictures are taken by a thirth party (the company that build the moulds)... man are they in trouble if Disney / Disney engineering see these pictures!

No; according to RCDB it will be an Intamin Halfpipe. The towers on a Vekoma big air are much higher (60m/197ft) than the RC ride will be (25m/82ft).

Wow!!! I totally didn't know this was happening at DLP!! They have been advertising it on British tv, but I just thought it was one of the many promotions to entice the public over there. I think it looks amazing! Will need to get saving for A trip near Christmas lol

To add, the Green Army Men Parachute drop will be a one tower version of the ride known as Jumpin' Jellyfish at Tokyo Disney Sea and Disney's California Adventure.

 

I still get scared just thinking of how long the lines for those 3 rides are going to be! Crush Coaster (with its 700pph capacity) gets huge lines, so imagine for RC Racer and the Parachute drop.

Look at at this way, if park attendaence increases by 10% and the park has added 20% more rides, theoretically lines should decrease. In the end, it is better to add two low capacity rides versus nothing. We know adding nothing will not decrease wait times.

I agree, but that itself is strange, or at leat it is if they use the layout of the road in the picture. It seems like it must be for some attraction, but I wonder what it is for. Also, is the Army man theming just for parachute drop? Cause if it is the same as the DCA version its not a particularly interesting or long ride.

Ready to get a private tour of the tower before the Walt Disney Studios park open? Well, this is your chance. Disney has started to offer a new tour inside and around the Tower of Terror attraction. The first test tours have just finished. The weekend of 27-28 march are booked for press events but as of April guests can book the tour for themselves and their friends. The tour will only take place during the weekends and reservations need to be made in advance. Guest who made a reservation will then be let into the park about 1 hour before opening to go on the tour.

 

The tour will take about 50 minutes where you will be invited in the Tower of Terror to learn some of its secrets. Guests will be guided through and around the building, though the gardens, inside the building to the lobby, the library and the basement where they will learn about the attractions and the different visited location. Only “on stage” visits are included for this tour. There will be no backstage view of the attraction.

 

At the end of the 50 minute tour guest who want to ride the attraction will have the chance to do so. This will be one of the first rides of the day, just after the the test runs.

 

The tour will cost 12 Euro and is limited to 10 people. Unfortunately to tour is only offered in French and will not be offered in English at this time. If a success this might change in the future. The tour is in a test face and changed could apply.

When I was on the WDWCP, I was able to go on a behind the scenes tour of Tower and it was definitely one of the highlights of my program and something I will never forget.

 

I think this on stage tour is a great idea. I imagine if successful they will carry it over to the other parks.

Thanks for the update, lot of great looking stuff! As for face characters, I think the Prince Naveen character will always be screwed. I have yet to even see one guy look even remotely like him. Even the asian with orange hair peter pan at Epcot looks more like their character than the Prince Naveen character.

Staff at Disneyland Paris, the most popular tourist attraction in Europe, are considering industrial action to improve their working conditions after the suicides of three employees since the start of the year.

 

Guy-Bruno Mboe, leader of a Disneyland union, has blamed the latest two deaths on “brutal” working conditions. “It’s all about profit, profit, profit,” said Mboe. “The combination of fewer staff and demands for more productivity just pushed this poor man over the edge.”

 

The directors of the resort denied that the suicide of an employee in his home on March 26 had anything to do with his working conditions. They complained of a union attempt to exploit the tragedy.

 

The man was identified only as Franck L, a 37-year-old father of four and restaurant manager at Disneyland. He hanged himself on the day he was supposed to return to work after holidays and sick leave.

 

Another Disneyland restaurant worker had thrown himself in front of a train five weeks earlier. At the beginning of February an employee had committed suicide for what the company called “personal reasons”. After being sacked, another worker recently threatened to kill himself in the theme park.

 

According to Mboe, the restaurant manager had told colleagues he wanted to leave his job “because of having to work more and more with less and less means”.

 

The company has said that it will investigate the “possible factors of stress or harassment”.

Union representatives and managers have been in talks over the working environment at Disneyland Paris after three workers committed suicide in the last eight weeks.

 

Managers at the French park are now under pressure to establish the motivations behind the deaths. The most recent suicide was that of a Eurodisney chef, who was found hanged at his home over a week ago. He was due to start back at work after a prolonged period of sick leave. The trade union that represented the man has described the working conditions at the popular theme park as "humiliating". It is an important matter for the company and we are taking the case very seriously.

 

Force Ouvriere says the chef had told colleagues he wanted to quit his job because too many demands were being made of him. But Eurodisney has vigorously denied the claims - and its management said the suicide was not work-related. The death of the chef follows the suicide of another chef on February 21. He threw himself under a train. His death came a day after another worker threatened to kill himself at the attraction park after it was announced he was to be dismissed.

 

At the beginning of February, an employee committed suicide for what the company called "personal reasons". Work-related suicides are a controversial issue in France following a spate of suicides at France Telecom - some 44 workers have taken their lives since 2008.

The unions have blamed the deaths on an "unfeeling management culture".

 

The management of Disneyland Paris told Sky News: "It is an important matter for the company and we are taking the case very seriously. "We are facing an unusual situation ... we are not saying there is no problem at all. "We need time to understand what is happening in these three different cases ... it is therefore difficult to comment." He added: "We know that it is a difficult time for the family and are expressing our deepest sympathies and regrets to the family. "There are already procedures in place to help workers but we recognise that we need to go further to help workers who may be in distress. "Since the announcement of the last suicide we have had three meetings with the unions to try and talk and work with the people inside the company to try and find the right solutions."
