Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

It hasn't been officially announced yet, but I would count on Flashback being taken down first since it will be relocating north. The park also has a Christmas holiday event that may make it difficult to do much deconstruction, so I could see Texas Chute Out not being taken down until after new years.

I drive by the park four times a week for work and noticed that there isn't a visible crane next to either of the rides and that the cables on the Chute Out are still attached. (Not sure if the carriages are still attached to said cables though). If I was a betting man I would guess that most of the park's maintenance team is probably going 100 miles an hour getting the Halloween event organized and squared away.

212-acre acre theme park

I had no idea the park was that big.

Everything is bigger in Texas though

According the Wilki the park purchased some land in 2008 making now 220 acres. Im not sure if that has anything to do with the strip mall they purchased.

Maybe someone can answers this question for me that I feel stupid as an enthusaist for asking, I need you guys to confirm what I know is b.s. I have two cousins who claim that when they rode Mr. Freeze, the train "got stuck" on the spike, leaving them hanging in the air for almost an hour till repairs were made. I argued with them for a ridiculous 2 hours explaining how the ride and LIM's work and that cant happen, they swear this happened. I know Mr. Freeze has LIM's that are halfway up the spike to propel the train to the top of the spike. Has any such incidents been reported with the shuttle LIM's? Is it possible for the LIM's to freeze up or something, keeping the train suspended?

Do they know what Mr. Freeze is? Maybe they got stuck on Titan...I agree that the LIMs up there wouldn't stop the ride. I think they could certainly slow it down enough to not make it through the course though. I call b.s. on your cousins

There is no place for Texas Chuteout to fall without causing massive destruction. It can't fall towards the entry road, that would be disasterous. If it falls towards Freeze it would cause catastrophic damage to both coasters in the area. It can't fall towards Goodtime Theatre either. The only possibility would be to remove both Flashback and the bumper car building first and allow it to fall towards the abandoned shopping area.

I'm thinking they'll probably just disassemble the tower piece by peice.

^ I think it can be unassembled piece by piece since it is welded together. It would be nice to see a filmed explosion, I don't think Six Flags would do that, but I could be wrong.

Thanks guys proven my point, I will be showing them this the next time I see them.

Well they did it before...

But I bet they will take it apart piece by piece.

Ive never seen that video, maybe they will after all.

Wildcatter had room to fall, Chuteout doesn't. Chuteout is also taller than Wildcatter and surrounded by other attractions. As I said earlier, the only possibility would be to have Chuteout fall in the direction of the abandoned shopping area. But they would have to remove both Flashback and the bumper car building first to keep them out of harm's way. To have Chuteout fall in any other direction would cause damage to surrounding shops, restaurants and rides.

Peeps were discussing whether or not Texas Giant was a "classic" wooden coaster over in the SFFT thread. It made me think of this picture, so I wanted to post and share it. That first year, the trains always crossed on the lift/helix, then a few seconds later on the bottom of the first drop/last hill. It was such a great ride. I'm not sure it was ever a "classic," but those 3 kick ass top 3 rides from then - Timberwolf/GA Cyclone/TX Giant - went down hill quickly over the years. Re-profilings, brakes, you name it. They were some of the best rides ever built, but o well... Good thing Rocky Mountain is here to save the world! I haven't ridden the New Texas Giant yet myself.. can't wait. This was taken during a morning ACE ERT during the Coaster Con 1990. Cameras were allowed on rides then.
