Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread

JRS is classic, it doesn't need El Toro airtime or steel tracks, it's a ride for the same target as pandemonium. And its a classic woody. Call up RMC for some topper track and maybe some more padding on the PTC's and its set. Its a fun ride, albeit right now not in the best state. It's also got a beautiful setting along the lake, looks awesome lit up at night and reflecting of the water.

What's with your hatred of JRS? Were you not able to carve your initials or stick any gum into it? Perhaps your girlfriend was unable to stand fully erect during it, so you declared war? You seem like a real charmer, "bro".

The entrance to that part of the park is unique, and a bit odd to me. Seems like they could do something more over there...even over that pond/lake, right? It's quite a hike from, say, New Texas Giant all the way over there...sure would be nice to have something more over there.

Sad to see the Chute Out go, it'll be interesting to see the footprint of this new swing ride versus the old one.....

I don't hate the Judge, I've been riding it since it first opened in 1981. It was a great ride back then. But like all wooden coasters age has taken it's toll. And since space is at a premium at SFOT, well, I just feel that something much better could be built in that space.

I never carved my initials in the Judge, but I did leave a couple of scratches on one of the wooden rails in the queue line.

If you want to make JRS a great little woodie again, just retrack the whole thing (all the layers) and lighten up the trains. Not by getting new trains, because I really love the old 6-seat PTCs, but by removing the seat dividers and the headrests.

Oh, and do buzzbars weigh less than individual ratchet bars? Then slap those on it, too. Yes, I realize that will prevent them from being able to dispatch the train with single riders, but it shouldn't be hard to install a single rider line to fill the empty seats.

Classic Bill Cobb out and back design with 6-seat PTCs, no headrests, no seat dividers, and buzzbars. That would be even more exciting than a 400ft star flyer!

^^^^ i have mixed feelings for JRS. On one hand It is a good starter coaster and a classic. Then on the other, it takes up a lot of valuable space in area that could be the perfect spot for a large custom desinged coaster. I don't see SFoT ever giving it an RMC treatment, plus its just too small. I don't think it would be wise to completely cover the lake with a massive coaster but something simular too Sky Rush that would intertwine with JRS and maybe have an helix over part of the lake. If anything is removed I would love to see Lavibora because it would would be perfect for a B&M to come in with something like Tatsu. Or have Pandemonium and Slash down removed since they are next to each other and replace them with a water coaster.Thought that would never happen. Do you guys see guest flocking to the park for Texas Skyscreamer? I remember when Superman T.O.P first opened. The GP I talked to whom went and rode it where dissapointeed. In there words "all you do is go up and down". But I guess that proves the GP really thinks coasters and flat ride are the same.

I don't know why people hate on Judge Roy Scream. Its a fun classic woodie. My niece who is 5 loved it. She rode it 3 times this season. As far as taking up room, they could build around it. Hershey does it, so why couldn't six flags? I'm not saying a fresh coat of paint and some tracking would not hurt the coaster but it's still a fun ride. I'm just saying its great for a family to ride together. Plus it never has a line.

When I went there was no line...The ride gives little airtime, even in the back. Yet I'm almost greatful for that, because I went about two weeks ago and the little airtime I got was rough, so rough that I felt the need to staple myself to avoid getting air. I didn't remember it being rough on my previous visits, but I was unpleasantly surprised. However, some guy was re-riding at least 3 times while I was over there and I'd assume he got 20 in the whole day judging (no pun intended) on his attitude...Maybe it's just not for me...it mostly seems boring for a coaster.

Due to the short line, I'd probably ride JRS the next time I go, but I would only rank it slightly above Flashback. At the same time for SFoT it is well worth keeping - definitely worth refurbishment, but not worthy of New Texas Giant style refurb - plus, as the park's only woodie, who wants that?

I'm not so excited for the Sky Screamer. I haven't ridden one, but they definitely intimidate me to a higher degree than a 400 ft tall coaster. If the wait was longer than 20 minutes, I'd probably skip it, otherwise it could be fun. I'm looking forward to the next year or two...maybe that Dive Machine rumor will come to fruition!

I agree completely with everything in this post.

^We got there late in the evening and made it as far as the station--but someone threw up on one of the trains, so they had to clean it up and run empty cycles for a while. It was close to ERT time and no one wanted to miss that, so we bailed.

I like Judge Roy Scream. I don't LOVE it, but I like it a lot. I ride it a few times during each park visit. It's a tad bumpy, and they could certainly show it some love, but it doesn't hurt. Families love it, and it's sort of a park icon. It looks beautiful as you drive into the parking lot, and when you leave for the day. It does sit on a prime piece of real estate which certainly could accommodate any large modern giant coaster the park wanted, but the day they do that, I will be very sad. Not because I don't love a big new thrill machine, but because that will be the day that all unique charm and special, not-Six Flagsy atmosphere that makes SFOT such a stand-out in the chain will start to really disappear. Just my opinion.

Heading to SFOT later this afternoon. Taking my in-laws and little 5-year old brother. I think I'll ride Flashback at least once to bid farewell... (never rode it before). I can't wait to take my husbands brother on JRS and other rides! We've never taken him to Six Flags before due to his height. But now he should be able to ride the mild stuff!

I'm excited! I need my coaster fix!

Oh yeah I remember hearing about that incident now. Well just another reason to get back to SFOT as if Giant and Shock Wave weren't enough.

I wish my daughter were about 2" taller so we could have gotten her on Chute Out. She would have loved it. Both of my boys did, as did myself and my wife. I will truly miss it. While the ride was fun, I'm also going to miss the buzzing sound it made as the chutes went up and down the cables. RIP Texas Chute Out.

At the same time, I enjoy the StarFlyers and at 400', I think this one will be good fun with great views of the metroplex.
