jynx242 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^^ They didn't change the themeing on the actual ride. They just re-themed (badly) the entrance. I am of the opinion that these incidents are due to riders having loose objects on the trains. I've ridden DD countless times over the past 10 years and have never seen or experienced an incident. I understand Universal's reaction, but will still say that it SUCKS.
terdferg Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Solution: Gopro cameras on the front of each train (or something similar). If it happens again, hold whoever the item came from accountable.
ernierocker Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I am of the opinion that these incidents are due to riders having loose objects on the trains. I've ridden DD countless times over the past 10 years and have never seen or experienced an incident. For two random events (and the only such events in the ride's history) to happen so close together, I strongly suspect we could be talking about the same person here causing these injuries to happen. Someone who thinks it is funny to try and hit someone in the dueling train.
Cyber.Fiber Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^^^I was thinking the same thing. I've seen similar incidents while waiting in line for Drop Tower at CW. People bring things like pocket change up to the top and then drop it down onto the queue. It wouldn't surprise me if some idiot was doing something similar here and pulling an "Oh, my change came out of my pocket on the loops." Hopefully this "solution" is only temporary and Universal can start dueling the ride again soon. It's such a shame to see a coaster which has run without issue for so long halt it's original operations in a situation where a specific person is most likely behind these recent events. In the decade that the ride has been operating and these two incidents having happened within weeks of each other just screams rider interference and not coincidence. Something just isn't right here.
harper83087 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^I will haha. Personally I thought the re-theme to Harry Potter was ridiculous just for the fact that the last movie just came out...no more books, no more movies...why have a third of a theme park for Harry Potter? Anyway, the result of the accidents is very depressing. I love that this is the first system to make sure the duels happen at the correct location and time throughout the course. Now we will have to wait if we ever get to see it again.
Wes Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^I will haha. Personally I thought the re-theme to Harry Potter was ridiculous just for the fact that the last movie just came out...no more books, no more movies...why have a third of a theme park for Harry Potter? Why have an entire section for Dr Seuss? Dude hasn't written a book in 20 years!
harper83087 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Good point, but does/will Harry Potter have the iconic status that Dr. Suess has, or Loony Toons or Snoopy?
DiSab Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Must be karma for changing the name of the ride and the surrounding area.
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^^ You don't think it does? I realize people don't care for Harry Potter, and that's fine, but there are PLENTY of people who do (myself included). The book series has sold more than 450 MILLION copies and the movies have made over $2 BILLION. I think that's pretty significant.
BeemerBoy Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Good point, but does/will Harry Potter have the iconic status that Dr. Suess has, or Loony Toons or Snoopy? Hang on, I'm gonna go back to 1997 and ask a few of the initial readers if they expect to be following the storyline 14+ years from then. Stay tuned. I'll let you know.
harper83087 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^ & ^^ I understand it's very popular today and has been since the first book. I enjoyed all of the movies and I'm sure I'd enjoy the books if I weren't too lazy to read. But now that the series has ended I just don't see it maintaining its popularity fifty years from now. I could be wrong, and I probably am, but I'm just speaking my opinion.
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 You think JK Rowling (or Warner Brothers) is going to let a cash-cow like Harry Potter fall into oblivion? JK is already starting Pottermore in October which looks to be very cool, and could potentially be a replacement for VMK for those who have been looking for one.

And hell, I have no reason for posting this, but it's unavoidable now that I realized it's there.
dragonskeep Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 We have all seen people trying to do very dumb things in life but I do hope these accidents were accidents. If someone did it on purpose I hope they are hunted down and thrown off a freakin cliff. Ok just kidding about that part but it does make me pretty mad that individuals that don't know how to behave can ruin it for sooo many people. Harry Potter is a success in every imaginable way for all of Central Florida. To continue to argue that point is more than a little confusing to me. Even though they have now completely ruined DD, Potter is a total win for Universal and will be for a reasonable amount of years. It doesn't have to last 50 years, although I think as a book series it will, to be a huge success for the park.

BeemerBoy Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^ This will remain popular 50 years from now.
Meteornotes Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ^ This will remain popular 50 billion years from now. Fixed. dt

Moose Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Hey Everyone, I'm merging topics into this thread to make a bigger and better Universal Orlando Thread so if you see odd things happening....
RCFreak Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 HHN Orlando had better step it up this year. Like there's even a competition there.
Hilltopper39 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 ^ I though last year's Orlando event was pretty weak, so anything will be an improvement.
Zeppelinfreak Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Looks kinda cool... HHN Orlando had better step it up this year. We(here in Hollywood) have an INCREDIBLE event so far... and that is with 2 mazes still left open for opinion. I kinda like what we have been seeing so far though... it's colorful in a VERY cool sort of way... but we shall see soon enough. Totally agree.
