Usually Random or The main Forum.

Many times per day, but usually within the same sitting. I think I have ADD.

I'll usually look through most of the freshly replied topics.

 

- Are there certain types of posts you read more than others?

The legible ones, also, I think that all of the "Yay this happened" or "Oh no, something bad" threads ned a big thread just so they can be less prominent.

 

- Do you do anything else besides reading the forum?

I pop in the chat every now and then, and I've gotten a few PMs other than that, not much.

What board do you read first?

 

I have the main page bookmarked, so I go there first and look to see if there has been a major site update. In forums, I start with Theme Parks unless I have posted something in random and am wanting to see the resonse. Then I'll read random, then Ask Alvey. I rarely look at the games board because a lot of the photos are so big and take forever for my slow dialup to load!

 

How often do you visit?

 

Every day, usually from work and from home. I'll keep it up in the background and reload every now and then. I'm sure it makes it look like I'm online 20 hours a day, but I'm not

 

 

How many pages through each board do you read?

 

Just the first because there are usually not enough new posts in between visits to spill over on to the second page.

 

Are there certain types of posts you read more than others?

 

I agree with everyone that I love the photo TRs, random and regular. Mainly I'd look at posts that are started by someone I know, or deal with something that interest me first. After those, I might scan the others, or might not, depending on how much time I have. Of course, I always scan for my own topics first just to see if anyone has anything to say in them

 

Do you do anything else besides reading the forum?

 

I'm in the chat probably 4-5 nights a week for some amount of time, and find it to be my favorite part of the site! Great people hang out there and we never fail to have fun. I also enjoy the regular updates and looking through old updates when I get bored.

I don't read the stickies much either. I don't read any of the ones in Random and only read ones in Theme Parks that pertain to me (like Beech Bend and Photochop stuff). I also think the search function could use an upgrade. Searching for certain posts by certain people is quite difficult. I tried searching for author=USRoadTripper and keywords=random TR and it gives me no results when I know I have posted just a few! Hence why there was no Photochop entry about Wally from me...his photo TRs were too hard to find! Just a thought for you. Aside from that, I think the site is just fabulous the way it is.

I first check the main page, to see if there are any big updates! Then I head for which ever thread I was more active in previously.

Multiple times daily.

Photo Trip Reports, either theme-park related, or random.

Your photo reports and updates are the best! Chat is fun from time to time.

Other than the annoying sig-banners and animations, I have no complaints. It's a very entertaining site, with a great bunch of peeps to go with it.

I usually hit the Donkeys or Random board first. I don't really visit the other boards much. I'm not a big fan of RCT3 (I'm an RCT2 kind of guy) and I never really have enough time to do much with No Limits so I don't really visit that one much. I visit Ask Alvey every once in a while. Usually after I've checked everything on Donkeys and Random or if I'm curious about something..

 

I visit usually at least a few times a day and I most generally just go through the first page or two on each of the previously mentioned boards to see whats new.

 

Every once in a while I will hop in the chat room if I see there are a couple of people in there. I don't really check out the main site photos much anymore unless there is a new batch or I'm interested in a particular park 'cause I've seen most of the pics. Maybe I need to go back through some of them though. Some of those trips are freakin' hilarious!

I always check Donkeys and Random, but not in any particular order. Occasionally, I'll check in on Ask Alvey, but since it moves more slowly, I don't check it every visit.

 

I try to check in every day, but my schedule is unpredictable, so sometimes I'm on here several times in one day, and then other times just once or twice a week.

 

I very rarely read beyond the first page.

 

I'll read anything WDW related. I try to read all of the threads started by R & E, and Soren. I'm more of a theme park person than a coaster enthusiast, so I tend to avoid some of the more technical coaster stuff.

 

I've never been in the chat room. I do like to occasionally go back and look at the old photo TRs.

 

I'm living in the dark ages (or, more specifically, the financially-challenged), so I have pokey-old dial-up, which makes it difficult to view anything with large amounts of photos. I try to save the larger photo TRs for when I'm at school, and I just don't bother with the avatar contests (although I do enjoy seeing everyone's avatars in their posts.)

I visit the forum every day. I am usualy the most interested in Random first and then Donkeys, sometimes read the Ask Alvey forum and usualy stay away from the Video Game section. I visit the chat room every once in a while and thats about it. I also look at non- forum pictures often.

I pretty much visit every forum in order except for the TR archive. Or sometimes I'll just go into the Theme Park, Roller Coasters, and Donkeys forum, then go directly to the random random random forum.

Are there certain types of posts you read more than others? I like the photo TRs a lot, especially when they actually have photos. The retro ones are neat, that was an awesome idea. The photo contests are awesome too. Otherwise I'll pretty much read anything that interests me or grabs my attention.

 

Do you do anything else besides reading the forum? I check the main page to see if anything has been added, watch the videos, I haven't gone through all the TRs you guys posted so I'll go through those sometimes.

I really like that you included a random board in your forums, I also like the atmosphere..it's a lot more laid back than a lot of other forums I've visited and there's a lot less arguing/opinion wars. People here are respectful, while still able to poke fun at other members, voice their own opinions, and have a good time. Basically, your website rules at life. Wow, I sound like such a suck up.

First, I usually go to the Themepark board, then to the games board, then sometimes to the Ask Alvey board, I usually skip the Random Board. (Even though I love random stuff.)

 

I usually just read the posts that are new and/or that interest me. I also love rumor threads. I'm also really hooked on the Tatsu thread.

 

But really, awesome site guys! I'm fine with anything. (just don't take the donkey's off!!)

Every evening, the mornings that I have keyboarding, and on and off on weekends.

Mostly first page, but sometimes I'll scan through earlier threads.

Photo TRs, RCT2 Parks, anything that looks interesting.

I do alot of searching (thats how I found this thread), and I visit the main site often because it is my home page!

At first I look on the 'Themeparks and Donkeys' board then 'Random', after that 'Ask Alvey' and then on the main site and then I might look at the 'Video boards', but no so often, and I take a quick look at the 'Roller Coaster Video' games board about once a week.

 

If there's a new thread I find intresting, then I read it from the first to the last post, before I eventually post in it, but ie. when I joined this site, I did find the Tatsu construction topic interesting, but I didn't bother reading through all the 230?? something pages around then.

 

I usually visit this site 1-3 times a day, normally it's one time, but sometimes more if there's something I'm 'waiting for' or excited about.

 

I haven't yet used chat, well I actually never do on any other sites either.

I have all the coaster Video Games but that board is odd to me cause everybody only posts pics of their parks and coasters and that annoys me to no end, so usually I check it once a week.

 

I usually visit the site about 5 times a day and skim for good stuff

 

I love photo TR's and pretty much anything with pictures, I like the polls and I wish more people would participate in them.

 

I very much agree with Wes that there needs to be a "never ending pointless game forum" cause there are too many of them and I think it is kinda a waste of time since nobody is gonna look at page 58 of the what song are you listening to thread.

I never go to the different forums, I just check "view posts since your last visit" a few times a day, and I only open the topics that look interesting, and I hardly ever read a long post, over 5-8 lines

This was my first site that I have joined so I dint have anything to compare it with but I visit at least once a day lately, (I need to check the UK board). As far as reading to topics, I will just read the first page unless it is really interesting, then I will read the whole thing. I have a lot of time at work and get bored very quickly! So I will wonder over to here.

This is GREAT! I'm glad this topic came back to life. Gathering information about how people spend their time here really helps.

 

It's good to know that people do use stuff like the "View new posts since your last visit" because I know I've never used that feature.

 

There are other features like the "friend list" - do people use that...does it even work???

 

Part of my ongoing work is to find new features or mods for the forum, even if they are small like the new "URL" bbcode function (most people probably didn't even notice this one).

 

Anything to make it easier to navigate and post I'll try to do.

I visit everyday, with this being the first forum site visit. I check the donkeys/coasters section first, and usually hit the photo TR's, then I check the random thread. I usually don't go to any of the other sections, but maybe that will change.

I also will always look at ANY photo TR before anything elese! And after any posts that I have e-mails from, then I wil just go through all the forums and threads until I find something cool to read and read it.

 

New Idea

 

What about some type of a games area. Not like RCT or No Limits. More like a puzzle or word search with a theme park theme.

I've thought about other forums before and I really want to keep the amount of them limited.

 

What seems to happen on other forums is that the more you break up the topics, the fewer people seem to look at all of them.

 

The problem I see with moving the games to their own forum is that most people wouldn't look at that forum and it would basically become "wasted space." Whereas at least having them in the random forum, more people might actually click on them and contribute than if they were in their own location.

 

It's also just more to moderate. You have to think about it from this side of the screen. An additional forum means more work for us!

 

I like keeping things simple and streamlined. That's kind of been a goal of this site since day one. No fancy menus and buttons all over the place, no popups, no frames, etc.

 

I take the "google" approach. The most popular site in the world and all it contains is a text input box and a half-dozen links on top.

I check in a few times throughout the evening. First to see if there are any new updates on the home page. Then to the Donkey Forum, the Random Forum, and lastly the Professional Armature Videographer Forum. Like most people have already stated, I also do not read TR's without photos. I really don't have any specific method when it comes to reading a topic. If it looks like something I'm interested in, then I will read it. If not I don't. I will occasionally use chat but not very often as my typing skills have much to be desired. I have never checked the Games Forum and rarely Ask Alvey.

 

And I agree 100% that simple is better.

I do every once and a while to make sure I did not miss anything buried in the forums and I like to see what park pictures and stuff you have and the ones you are missing (Hercules!!!! )

 

Once again Robb I really admire your drive to make and keep this the VERY best coaster site on the net. You are one of the few site owners that listens to its thousands of mindless followers

I only go to the front page if I've received an e-mail saying there's an update. I check the UK forum, then coasters and donkeys, then random. I'll go in chat if there are people I know in there. Every once and a while I will go to the "Statistics" option to make sure I'm not the top poster for the month. Once I read everything that looks interesting, I mark all posts read. Every once and a while I go to the photo updates and look at the UK stuff. I used to look at the photos and watch the videos, but I think I've seen pretty much everything.
