Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has said that the studio is in talks about creating an amusement park based on the hugely successful franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feltheimer revealed: "We have been approached in two different territories about potential theme park opportunities, which gives you a sense of the cultural impact of this franchise. No further details about the potential park have been announced but Feltheimer added: "We are excited about those opportunities and are pursuing them." Meanwhile, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - the second movie in the series - is set to break box office records when it opens later this month. The Jennifer Lawrence-starring sequel is projected to take in an opening weekend haul of between $140 million (£87.5 million) and $150 million (£93.7 million), while other analysts claim that the dystopian action movie could surge past $160 million (£100 million) in its first three days on release. The movie will hold its world premiere on Monday (November 11) before its worldwide release on November 22. Edited November 10, 2013 by jedimaster1227
SharkTums Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I guess this is slightly more interesting to me than Potter? Hope that Koushun Takami gets some royalties off of this. Google him kids!
molemaster43 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I was pretty sure he had something to do with Battle Royale. As for a theme park based on the Hunger Games, one idea would be to build the Capitol. It would be an interesting experience to walk through it. I can also envision an IMAX film that showcased the history of the Hunger Games. I'm not exactly sure what rides could be placed in, though.
Meteornotes Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Honestly, it wouldn't take much effort to make Six Flags America over into this... dt

ImmelMatt Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Way to completely miss the entire point of the books, Lionsgate. This is what the Capitol would do after the Games, turn them into tourist attractions so people could re-enact and revisit their favorite parts of how the kids killed each other for that year. It was described as a bad thing.
Nrthwnd Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 At least Universal waited, until most of the Potter movies were released, before they started creating the PotterVerse. This is way too fast for attractions to be created, let alone a whole new park. IMhO. Then again, if it works, and the people come, who am I to say...?
Jew Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 ^Maybe that is the smart play? Wait too long and the chance to cash in is gone!
djcoastermark Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I don't get the whole concept here. Is it a land where I gorge myself on fancy chocolates and then try to kill a few kids ? It just doesnt sound right.
larrygator Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I don't get the whole concept here. Is it a land where I gorge myself on fancy chocolates and then try to kill a few kids ? It just doesnt sound right. The idea is to capitalize on the second most popular book series among teens and pre-teens. It's hard to conceptualize if we don't have details regarding the scope of the project. If it is similar in scale to a Wizarding World of Harry Potter you are only talking about a handful of rides and theming. A shooting dark ride where you kill teens would be awesome, but probably wouldn't fly. Then again, I really don't know much about the books even though I did catch the movie on a flight last year. But, I'd rather have this franchise being considered than Twilight.
2012jarrett Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 As said before here, no idea what kind of area they want. I actually made a Hunger Games ride in RCT3 last year. It was a Mummy-esque indoor coaster in the arena where you go through a few scenes and it launched you when there was danger (fire, tracker jackers, ect.) and ended with a freed all drop after an animatronic mutt popped out at you and a cannon sound effect was played. It was a fantasy coaster I made for fun and could never be built, but the concept worked surprisingly well. Not sure if a ride about kids fighting each other would go without controversy, though. But a shorter more reasonable version of this I could see being the next Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. I also got this idea from a Facebook friend of mine for a dark ride that goes through all 12 districts, maybe call it "Victory Tour?" Another one I had was a wing coaster called Mockingjay that flew through the wartime Capitol from the third book. Maybe a walk through obstacle course themed to the training arena? Or riding the high-speed train used for transportation? Restaurant themed to the Capitol banquet from Catching Fire? The tribute parade down a Capitol-themed main street? Plenty of opportunity here! I'd wait to see how the other three movies play out before deciding on this but it sounds promising. I love theme parks and The Hunger Games, so I can't wait to see how this turns out!
gisco Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 As a themed area in a park I could see this happening. As a whole park, I don't think so.
larrygator Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 As a themed area in a park I could see this happening. As a whole park, I don't think so. How about as a themed area within a park, but promoted as an entire theme park? Has anyone ever tried that approach?

TPDave Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Ha! I'd be interested to see the scale that they would attempt with this. This franchise has way less traction and longevity than potter. I see this working better as a series of mazes or scare zones at a halloween event rather than a whole park.

gerstlaueringvar Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 So after a lot of people had watched Catching Fire, any new idea of how the rides would be like? I could imagine a Mack Drop 'N' Splash at the clock area. That ride just seems to be right for anything water related. Completely random, seems that the movie did not mention about the two girls ran away from District 7(Not so sure about the number)
traincrossin Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 So Thinkwell Group tweeted this today, anyone have any idea what it might be about? A ride? An exhibit? Whatever it is, looks like there will be an announcement on March 14th. Mysterious pies appeared in the kitchen today, emblazoned with some sort of message. What could it mean? pic.twitter.com/gq4P6yAXKf Tweet
gerstlaueringvar Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I guess the park announcement is on March 14th and the park's name is District 14
bbomser Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Am I the only one that didn't see the Mockingjay at first, and just saw Pie plates and 3.14, immediately thinking of Pi(Mathematically)? I swear I'm not a nerd...
arby Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 When I first head of the Hunger Games book series I was skeptical. Then once I read it, I was impressed with the story. It is also not uncommon for a movie to not live up to the book for obvious reasons but usually they are acceptable. The Hunger Games movie was barely acceptable to me (I haven't seen Catching Fire yet). If I had seen the movie without reading the book, I would have found it kind of...weird. I think they missed a good opportunity and the first movie should have given us all the info that led up to the hunger games and then left us in suspense as Katniss entered the arena. With all that being said, I am not sure there is enough content in the movie to make an entire theme park. As others have said, I could see this as a single themed area in a park. It might be fun to see some tracker jackers let loose on line jumpers, though.
beatle11 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Jennifer Lawrence the Ride please! I'd be first in line for that!
