chickenbowl
What SFDK is getting is another low-capacity coaster that they are getting. What? I really hope that the new Pop music is only temporary. I really love the Ghost Town music. It triggers memories of Knott's and really sets an ambiance for the park. Jew
There's rumors floating around that Haunt might be undergoing some big changes for next year. The most prominent rumor is that the Log Ride and Mine Ride will not return as haunted attractions. Other rumors were reducing the amount of mazes (hopefully to focus on quality) and reducing the amount of nights.
DJeXeL
^Can't say that I'm opposed to this. I'd rather have 5 or 6 HIGH quality mazes VS 13 OK mazes. In regards to the amount of nights, they absolutely could shave off Wednesday nights all together and limit Thursday nights to the last few weeks of the month. COASTER FREAK 11
Reducing the number of mazes makes sense, but I don't understand why they would reduce the number of nights.
DJeXeL
^Because Wednesday nights are pointless. The park is dead. It's great for the guests but not so great as a business decision. Edited November 15, 2011 by DJeXeL
SharkTums
You and I may understand this, but cutting back on the number of Haunted Rides and Mazes is a REALLY hard sale to the GP. Especially with more and more small events popping up and Universal upping their game down the street. Best of luck to Knott's with their plan! DJeXeL
^This is true. I've always been impressed with how well Universal has done with their 5 mazes so I figure if Knott's can raise the bar with only 5 mazes they'll be OK but you're absolutely right, the GP would be thinking "Why don't they have as many haunted houses as they used to?" This was my first year going to Queen Mary's Dark Harbor and it's definitely noteworthy. Fright Fest @ SFMM is going in the right direction as well even though it's not near being worth a separate admission BUT it is moving in the right direction and possibly may be worth a separate admission in a few years. The competition for So Cal Haunts is getting fierce so Knott's has their work cut out for them.
DallasAlvey
^^ Exactly, with Universal getting more and more popular every year the main thing Knotts had going for them was a huge amount of mazes that Universal could never get to. If they cut say 5 mazes I think it will be a lot harder for them to compete with HHN in the future. The loss of the log ride and the mine ride is kinda disappointing I've always enjoyed them during Haunt but I heard they were having problems with OSHA involving the mine ride this year so I guess it's understandable. chadster
^ Now the question is, which employee called and complained to OSHA.
susie zueck
Haunt would loose a lot of business if they cut the log ride and mine ride and more mazes. The GP would rather go to Universal or to SFMM Fright Fest than to Haunt. Next year is Haunts 40th anniversary, why make Haunt have less attractions? Gnome
I don't think it will lose business. The only thing knott's has to do is make sure that people feel like the experience at knotts worth the price of admission, and like there is no other place better to go to than Knott's halloween haunt.. And number 2,if they don't dress it up for halloween, they won't have to shut it down for normal operating hours which would please the non-haunt going crowd. Lets face it, Knott's needs all the family attraction it has operating as often as possible.
DJeXeL
^TMLR being down generates a lot of guest complaints so this is true.
Someotherguyuser
^ TMLR was down during the day for Haunt? Really? Last time I went to the park during the day in October, the ride was open, but all of the Halloween stuff was covered with with black blankets--keep in mind that this was around 2005 or 06 back when they had Red Moon Massacre. ILoveRides
I'm all for having fewer mazes if they're higher quality, but the log and mine ride overlays are two of the biggest selling points of Knott's Scary Farm for me. Those two rides, along with the shows (The Hanging, Ed Alonzo, etc), are what make Knott's stand out from the competition IMO. If they don't theme the rides I think they'll lose a big part of what makes Knott's Scary Farm unique.

If it's possible, it would be very nice to keep the Log Ride since, like you said, it's really what makes Haunt so unique.

CMR and TMLR go down for a few days while they install the Haunt props. After that then yes it's open during the day but all the haunt stuff is covered you're correct. But in general, whenever TMLR is down either for Haunt prep or rehab, guests do not like it at all. Even though it's posted out front of the park in 2 different places as well as Knotts.com, people still b*tch and complain.
Bolliger&Mabillard
I agree that Log/Mine rides are as historic to Haunt as they are to the park itself. I hope the rumors are false, though I welcome fewer mazes ONLY if they still allocated the same budget to Haunt.
susie zueck
There is also a rumor that Raffi does not like the sliding and that they are going to cut the sliding for 2012 Haunt.
DJeXeL
^He probably views it as a liability for both for the talent and the guests......
Bolliger&Mabillard
No sliding? No chainsaws? Pretty soon all Haunt will be is one guy at the gate in a ghost-like sheet yelling "Boo!" at you...
DJeXeL
^To be fair you can get scares without sliding but the chainsaws need to stay.
Jew
^You can get scares without chainsaws too... I'd much prefer they kept sliders over the cheap scare that chainsaws are. Knott's monsters invented sliding, and I know it is very popular amongst the guests as both a scare and as a show. In fact, I wish they'd allow GTS monsters to do their slider show as a hanging pre-show again.
DJeXeL
^ This is true and yea I remember the days when the monsters would dance and slide in front of the hanging stage.
