KnottsDisneyFarm Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 ^Well yeah, don't switch the scenes around, just replace the animatronics themselves. Then they would not look like rubber stretched over rusty gears...
ebl Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 ^ and ^^: I don't think you guys understand. The cheeziness of those figures is what makes the rides classic! Eric
Crazy4Coasters! Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Kiddos don't let those animatronics hear you talking about replacing them or they will meet you at High Noon in Calico Square!!!
Rollerman87 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 ^Well kiddo, tell that to the animatronics 50 years ago. They didn't look this bad. And I'm not talking huge makeover, just clean them up. I drive through that mountain everyday, and the decay shows
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I don't get it...Pirates of the Carribean is 42 years old and the animatronics look lightyears better than Mine Rides. I dont understand how one park coul....Oh yeah. Disney spends money on capital improvements other than coasters. Don't I feel like a rube.
Crazy4Coasters! Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 By the way, I now know why you guys keep saying Silver Bullet is a very weak B&M in terms of intensity. I just came from a mini Knott's trip and every time I would ride Silver Bullet me and my girlfriend would wait for the front. Honestly I have always felt some forcefulness during the ride in the front row but nothing too intense. So today me and my girlfriend decide to go in the back row and really see what Silver Bullet has to offer. So up the lift we go, first drop was fun but after that NO forces what so ever!!! I couldn't believe it!!! I do have to mention though that the ride was the smoothest I have been on while on a B&M... NO JOKE!!! I kept telling my girlfriend... "nothing, nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing!"going through the inversions and she agreed. It was surreal to be on the back row of a coaster and have a LACK of forces...
atem122 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 ^Last time I went, I rode SB in rows 1,4, and the back, 1 and the back at least had some force, but I was amazed by the complete lack of force in row 4, I seriously doubt that it hit much more than 2 g's
knottslover77 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I don't get it...Pirates of the Carribean is 42 years old and the animatronics look lightyears better than Mine Rides. Yeah they were way better to begin with, but i belive disney has improved them since its opening. --Jay
Jim1013 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I should have been more specific in my previous post - animatronics made by Sally Corporation, some of which are truly incredible. I don't see how upgrading an attraction would be so bad - allowing the attractions to become obsolete and dated makes them candidates for the wrecking ball. Look at the cool upgrades to POC at DL.
KnottsDisneyFarm Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 ^Exactly...change isn't bad! I like the Log Ride and the Mine Ride, but I cringe looking at the animatronics looking all decayed and jerky.
ebl Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 ^ Being decayed and falling apart is not acceptable, but the simple unDisneylike "animatronics" just fit in with those rides. Eric
itnotfair Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Sorry if this is a little OT... Has anyone noticed that RCDB lists Timberline Twister at 30 ft. high? Every time I go to Knott's, I try to find a low part in the ground next to a high part in the track that might get it close to 30 ft. Never happens. This ride cannot be 30 ft. tall. I know it isn't a big deal, I was just hoping someone could tell me I'm not crazy. The truth is out there!
KnottsDisneyFarm Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 ^Yeah, I saw that...it is definitely NOT 30 ft. high. It's MAYBE 15 ft. high. I guess RCDB is not correct all the time...
the ghost Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Its been a while since this thread has seen life, but Ghostrider is going through major rehab and track replacement. This is the single greatest thing ever, and if it is as extensive as I'm praying for(and Cedar Fair is kind of bad at doing what I pray for) then Ghostrider will become Californias number one wooden coaster once again. If not, get to knotts as soon as this opens and get a good ride in before it turns to crap again. www.westcoaster.net/updates.php?updateCD=091609
alexinla Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Guess Xcelerator's cable snapped again... Mod Edit: Pending further news, we've decided to take the video and any link to it off the site. You can still discuss the incident, but the video will not be up on TPR. Thanks for understanding.
Guest Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 ZOMFG! Was the kid hit with the cable? Why are they looking down as if there feet are on fire...are they?
alexinla Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 From what I understand the cable snapped and on the way back hit the kids legs. How come this is not in the news though? Usually someone sneezes in the line for X2, we have a special report on "Swine Flue scare at Magic Mountain" headlining the broadcast
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Looks like it wont be open for this haunt either...
atem122 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Is there some running total somewhere on Intamin cable snaps? It's gotta be in the hundreds by now
CreditCrazy Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Wow, so I'm guessing Ghostrider and Xcelerator are both down now...
Crazy4Coasters! Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 From the video it looks like something hit his head as well. That video is pretty sick. I really hope that kid is ok... I really do!
speedracer Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Holy crap!! Those poor people, the kid looked scared enough already, then to have this happen! Hope everyone is ok. As in past cable snaps, looks like there may have been metal shards flying around, could be what hit them. Can't believe Intamin hasn't done something yet to protect riders from the metal shards when these cable snap, since it happens so frequently, and most likely will continue to happen.
the ghost Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Has Accelerator had any major rehab since opening though? its pretty old(first intamin rocket) and it seems like something should have been updated by now,
Crazy4Coasters! Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 The person who posted this video wrote, "the cable snapped mid way up the tower, the kid in front was bruised by the torn wire hitting his legs. Nothing major, ride will be down for a while." I'm glad to hear the kid didn't get seriously hurt. What a "crap in my pants" moment that was!!!
coaster1000 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 This is really unsettling. I absolutely love Intamin, but this is simply to dangerous and NOT okay. Something should be done about this! The last thing people should get hurt on is a roller coaster!
