I'm just curious where everyone is getting their info from. Are they really making that much speculation off the vid? Because that doesn't show how bad the damage is. What if the cable ran along the bottom and tore up the undersides? What if that seat moving was an indication of that? But again, I'd love to see how people fully know this is purely cosmetic damage. Nobody knows what shape that train is in right now, not even the ROs who work on tht ride.

So, after really thinking about the trains, I too can see the OTSRs coming. I've heard the entire Red train has been pretty well destroyed. There might be a chance of rehabbing, but I'm talking replacement. If Red train has to be reaplced, it would be a considerable penny for Intamin to build another Rocket coaster with lapbars, for that would mean having to dig up the old plans, or completely redesign the lapbar system again. Essentailly, they'd be building a totally custom train for KBF. Big bucks. On the other hand, they build us the OTSR trains, the overall cost for one would be less, then again, how weird would it look to have one train with OTSRs and one with lapbars? Plus, that'd be two different procedures the ark would have to worry about for a single ride.

I cannot provide an answer for the glasses thing, but I have my speculation. I work at Pony Express, and so know the "no glasses period" policy. Honestly, I know there's no reason that glasses would naturally fly off. But I believe that rule is mainly for the 20% of the GP who truly are stupid enough to (a) lose their glasses on the ride and then (b) jump into a restricted area to get them. It's a weird policy, and it sucks to have to follow it, but hey, it's part of our jobs. Hell, we aren't the only one with a weird policy (thinking of Thorpe Park's no arms-raised policy). Back on subject And the news reports for the most part have all their "facts" wrong. I know. That statement is mainly to take blame off me for saying anything. I talk about this as an enthusiast looking at it, but I am under the NDA, and so cannot actually anything from the park's stand point

^Yep, Xcel will almost certainly be down all of Haunt,m which is slightly ironic since maintenance kept claiming they'd have her back to full operation by the Haunt. I'm very curious as to the details of this accident. Even in the park, no one can say a word. And no, I don't know anymore than what the news reports are saying.

Is that where Calico Mine Ride's black lit caverns get their inspiration from? Cause I thought them stalagtites and stalagmites always looked all multicolored -
That's so true, but sadly, the height requirement is huge for Pony. Due to how the restraints operate, it is continually pressing you into the seat. Many know that you can easily staple yourself on that ride just by simply breathing in. Anyways, Most people under that height requirement don't have the strength in their chest to hold the backbar up. It could literally suffocate them. But oh yeah, a bit more length would have been nice

Ahhh, I didn't think about replacing Boomerang. Also, since it is on the backside of the mine-ride, if they built a new coaster there, they could maybe have it go INSIDE the mine-ride on some parts. That would make for a VERY exhilirating ride! Ingenius!!! That will never happen. Honestly doesn't even sound that fun though. I'd like to see the park take out Wave Swinger and replace it with a Starflier, and put some more flat rides back in.

I'm not if it was him, but someone from the family walked a rope from Boomerang up to Skytower at Knott's earlier this year. I missed it But this must be crazy to even watch. -

Might surprise you then. They fixed it up recently and it's actually been running more reliably. Still cross your fingers of course, and hope that if it does brake down, it's when you're on it and experiencing a rollback -
Has a waterslide ever scared you?
Rollerman87 replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Venom Drop at Hurrican Harbor (SFMM). That thing is rediculous. The drop off is pretty shear, so you don't see the middle section for a tiny bit. And the sides aren't very high, so you get some airtime and feel like you're gonna fly off the slide. I was pumped full of adrenaline when I did it, and literally jumped on it before my nerves could calm down -

Screw you. There is only one problem with Knott's. Location. Its nestled next to a world reknowned THEME park and one of the largest Thrill parks in the world. The park as its own is great. -
Entertaining, funny ride ops.
Rollerman87 replied to GivenOneChance's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a load of fun when running my rides. Here's a few experiences: La Revolucion: I worked Halloween last year, and there is a little pathway between the turnstile and the end of the queue. This pathway lines the erimeter fence to the ride, and has a rail on the otherside. I would sneak as far around the corner as possible, and then jump onto the rail, jump off against the fence, creating a loud bang, and then land a couple inches from the guest. Bonus points for someone having their back to me when I did it. Silver Bullet: There are 2 "fat" seats on the ride. They are identifiable by having 2 seatbelts instead of 1. Whenever a guest asks me why they have 2 seatbelts, I just look at them, and go, "Your special" in the sappiest voice I can muster -
Idiot Ride Ops.
Rollerman87 replied to kidcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As many have heard, so I won't deny it, I work at Knott's. And we have all the typical problems. Can't say too much for I love my job. I can say that I love when guests feel they are smarter than us. They moan and complain abdout his or that, but the rule is the rule. Your kid's too short, sorry. Got flip flops (on Silver Bullet), must come off. But yeah, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. I've seen fellow Ride Ops who are so rude when telling a guest they can't ride or something. The worst part of our job is hands down telling someone they're too short. But you do it compassionately, and then point them not to Knott's guest service, but to the B&M website, for filing a complaint about height We are human, and as mentioned several times, some of us actually do like our jobs, but far more don't give a rat's a$$ -
It's kind of surprising that S&S hasn't improved in overall coaster quality. The idea is unique, but sounds like a total safety fail. Weird, since S&S owns Arrow, once a leader in coasters.

I am an RO at Knott's Berry Farm. I currently run Silver Bullet, but also know Pony Express and Montezooma's Revenge. When you guys are on your West Coaster trip, feel free to say hi to a tell white boy with glasses named William The Zamperla Motorbike that most people I hate. Well the ones it was built for like it You won't find me in any pics. I stay behind the camera. -
Did the Ride Op actually tell you it "E-Stopped" itself? For that is physically impossible for a coaster to do. It can stop itself and whatnot, but E-Stop is something a Ride Op controls. And if it was a simple rest, there was no way the E-Stop was hit.
-
Great post. That Fahrenheit pic is definitely amazing One thing I have to comment though is the "E-Stop." A ride stopping at a random interval does not necessarily have to be because the E-Stop was activated. If the ride experienced a malfunction, most likely it would stop itself. E-Stops are last case scenarios that you generally don't want to hit unless absolutely necessary.
